Río Serrano Hotel + Spa Review: I Spent My Honeymoon at This Remote Patagonian Resort — Here’s What It Was Like

"Río Serrano Hotel + Spa is located outside the southern entrance to Torres del Paine National Park in Chilean Patagonia. It started as a 24-room inn in 2002 and has expanded to a 108-room boutique hotel with a spa. The hotel features views of the Paine Massif Mountain range, a lodge-like lobby with local artwork, and offers a signature Calafate Sour drink. Activities include horseback riding, glacier tours, hiking, and traditional Patagonian asado. Rooms have organic bath products and woven textiles, and the Qawasqar restaurant uses native ingredients for its menu. The Massif provides excursions, and the spa offers treatments inspired by Indigenous practices. The hotel is family-friendly, with accessibility features and sustainability initiatives, including water recycling." - Sable Massingill Martinez

We had an amazing time at Rio Serrano. The view is stunning, service impeccable and spa very good. Views and food quality (both bar and restaurant) were the highlights. We were very impressed. Finally, we found convenience in the full board option. You may want to consider that while booking.

Only went to the restaurant but it was one of the best meals I had in Patagonia. The gnocchi and the soups are delicious. Also an incredible selection of wines. The staff are also so helpful and friendly. We look forward to returning and staying at the resort in the future.

This hotel is fantastic I wish I could move in. The location is perfect for exploring TdP for day hikes if you can’t do one of the treks. The hotel is immaculate from top to bottom. The rooms are gorgeous. We got the Mountain View and it was jaw dropping every morning. There are horses roaming the gorgeous property which is magical and a few dogs and puppies too. Breakfast was fantastic and we had dinner there every night at the bar because we got back late from the national parks and it was always delicious, especially the lamb shank and picahna steaks and Chilean potatoes. The staff is all fantastic and very helpful. You can organize tours through the Massif at the hotel which we didn’t do because we hiked on our own but they offer boat tours to the grey glacier which looked like a good way to spend a break day. It’s worth the money especially to be close to the national parks. Everything here is amazing we absolutely loved it

Absolutely best location in the entire world. The most stunning views. We had the best stay. The food was delicious. The cocktails were lovely. The views and the horses grazing outside my window every morning were the best part of our stay. Thank you so much for an beautiful memory.

The hotel is located in a highly scenic river valley just outside the park entrance, and has an incredible view of the Paine Massif with Paine Grande and Los Cuernos at the featured angle, with Grey Glacier off in the backdrop. The grounds are amazingly beautiful, as well, and you can hike along the Rio Serrano if you wish.||We visited right on the cusp of high season and had half good weather days and half marginal weather days. The weather changes very, very fast here so set expectations accordingly.||Most outstanding is the food menu, which is the same for lunch and dinner, although we ordered a bag lunch for all but one day. The RestoBar (De Agostini) has excellent food, as well, and a bit of a different menu than the restaurant upstairs (Qawasqar). Amazing options at the restaurant were incredible short ribs, ribeye steak, and king crab cheese bake (choupé), ceviché, and seared tuna, among many, many other incredible options.||Beds in the room were super king-sized and a great place to come back to and rest after a hard day's hiking, not to mention the incredible view of the Paine Massif always out the window.||One day returning for the Torres Mirador hike, my feet were so beaten up that I could barely walk. The concierge team helped me with my pack and poles up to the room, and all I had to do was take my body back up to my room on the elevator! So caring and helpful was the staff.||I stress that it would be well worthwhile to book the room with the board (all meals) option. Meals from the generous menu are expensive ala carte (but not bad at all when compared fine dining in the U.S.), and it is no absolutely problem to get your money's worth out of the bar and restaurant. Not many items of alcohol and no food items at all are marked as "premium" items, except maybe on or two things at most. We gladly accepted the 10% service charge on each restaurant check, as we found the table service to be quite good and the staff deserves to make a good living for work very well done. ||We used a friend/guide instead of the excursion provider, Massif, for all but two excursions, but we didn't get completely all-inclusive which includes the Massif excursions, aw well. Remember the three levels of stay: Room Only, Room with all meals, and all-inclusive with excursions included.||This seems to be the best option and best value among the higher-end resort options in and around the park, and we will for sure be returning when we visit beautiful Patagonia again!

Comfortable upmarket resort with great views of The Massif. As located outside the park, it is quite a distance to all sites in the park, including over an hour to Base Towers Hike.|Very expensive hotel if you are out in the park all day doing hiking etc and don’t use all the amenities provided. |Selection and quality of food and beverages was great.

Had an absolutely magical experience at the Rio Serrano. I stayed here with my family after finishing the W. When you Walk in you see the amazing views of Torres Del Paine and see the hotel’s horses who are free to eat and relax in the garden. The food was fantastic and the service was excellent. The spa was also so relaxing. Can’t recommend staying here enough!

Google
Luxury stay, great amenities, lovely staff. There are not very many options in or near Torres del Paine and we were visiting over Christmas so even though we booked 6 months in advance we had few options a splurged on this hotel that was more like a resort.|It is 1.5 hours drive on bad roads to the parking for Torres del Paine so factor in 3 hours driving for a day hike. But we thoroughly enjoyed our (expensive) stay.

Yelp
We were booked here as a post cruise itinerary within striking distance of Torres del Paine National Park. It truly is that. Our room had a view of what could be the mountains of another planet or maybe just Mordor. A lovely place in the middle of nowhere. Literally. It was 2 hours to the nearest pharmacy when my wife had a flareup of an allergic reaction to something from a couple of days previous in another city where we spent the night. Stock 6our med kit, kids. That being said, the staff bent over backwards, including sending someone 2 hours to said pharmacy to pick up some antihistamines WE should have had. I blame that on COVID making us out of practice for traveling. But I digress. Our excursions from the hotel to Torres del Paine NP all took at least 45 minutes on pretty bumpy, curvy roads. Those sensitive to car sickness should seek the midships seats on the bus or take some Dramamine. As advertised, the weather is Changeable. Capital C. The views are stunning. Pictures or videos didn't come close to doing justice to being here. If you've traveled a lot then the non-american quirks probably won't surprise you. For those less we'll traveled, be aware, things are a bit different in Chile. As with most foreign destinations, the people are wonderful and friendly. Really good English wasn't common but doable. Overall good experience and worth it.

Yelp
Rio Serrano is a beautiful hotel, built in style of skiing lodge, with wooden beams, high ceiling and modern decor. A "welcome" Pisco sour at reception and hot shower takes away the fatigue from driving here from Puerto Natales (road closures and 3 hrs detours are taking toll). There are rooms with mountain view and a terrace. Mountain is breathtaking, especially in the morning. Weather is unpredictable, tho, so sometimes it is all covered by haze and clouds. Buffet dinner and breakfast options. It's ok, I am not a big fan of the buffets in general, wish they would have a la carte option. Ceviches are delish, tho, so I load on those and desserts. Bar is pretty good, fully stocked with wine, beer, hard liquor and great cocktail choices, too. Piscos and caiprihnas make my day. Common area is plush and comfortable, very spacious. There are no TVs here (breathe now!). Not much of wifi or cell reception (see my tip for that). Nice. Relax and enjoy time away form everything. Note: It is very expensive, but it is nicest one in the area.

Yelp
Listen. This place is beautiful, but it is a conference center and it caters to its conferees. I essentially have felt like a second class citizens since I arrived despite a rate of over USD$300. I couldn't get a dining room reservation because of the conference and was relegated to the bar. The really bad burger was served cold. The noise from the conferees is so loud, i decided to take dinner in my room -- which overlooked the parking lot and not the incredible view of TdP. Amazingly, the dining room food I was able to order, which they comped me, was luke warm! It was like it just came off the many plates they prepare an hour for a conference dinner. Absolutely nothing special here. And certainly now worth a USD$300/night charge.

Yelp
best hotel i ever stayed, next to the river, at the entrance of the torres del paine national park, brand new swimming pool, gym and spa, scenery from the dining room or the bar are just amazing, plenty of excursions with knowledgeable guides, well maintained cars and amazing sceneries along the way, might be a bit pricey but understandable due to the logistic nightmare that must be to get luxury at the end of the world. i would highly recommend this gem of a hotel in the most beautiful place i've ever seen in my life.
