After a soggy start to Spring, we were blessed with a stunning sunny day—perfect for a long, leisurely lunch by the water at Ripples Chowder Bay.
It had been years since I’d last dined at Ripples (and even hosted a function there, which—side note—was absolutely flawless), so I was curious to see how it held up.
My friend and I made the most of their extended Winter Lunch Special (still running through September 2025), and while the setting was as picturesque as ever, the food this time just slightly missed the mark. Nothing dramatic—just a sense that the execution didn’t quite meet the promise of the menu.
To start, we shared the Calamari Fritti with squid ink aioli and lemon, along with the Wollemi Duck Terrine accompanied by fig jam, rocket, and crostini. For mains, we both opted for the Cone Bay Barramundi - this had changed from a couple of months ago and wasour least favourite as it really didn’t seem to go with spice lentils, although the Burundi was perfectly cooked. We finished with two shared desserts: the Limoncello Cheesecake (with vanilla cream, almond crumble, sorbet, and limoncello gel) and the Chocolate Cremeux (featuring miso dulce de leche, charcoal crumble, coconut ice cream, and matcha).
What truly stood out, however, was the impeccable service—warm, attentive, and perfectly paced, adding to the overall relaxed atmosphere.
It’s worth noting the menu changes on 1 October, so I’m looking forward to seeing what the new season brings.
Insider tip: If you’re after another waterfront gem with consistently great food and service, I highly recommend Chiosco—a perfect spot to unwind with a view.
