Macau, Beyond the Casino

"You won’t find better Cozinha Macaista (homestyle Macanese) than what 102-year-old chef Aida de Jesus (and her daughter Sonya) is cooking at her humble cafe."

A quiet Macanese eatery tucked away, feels a little dated. Minchi was flavorful but a bit too dry especially when it's supposed to be eaten with rice. The pastéis were also very flavorful but very grainy and had hard chunks of bacalhau. Over it's decent for a quick fuss free meal, but nothing outstanding.

I think i was looking for the restaurant for 15 minutes before finding it as it somehow quite hard to find. nestled between houses and other businesses. i ordered the minchi and african chicken. while the both are good, i prefer the minchi here. the price also very affordable compared to other eatery. the people working here also were very nice.

Tried the Mincci and the African Chicken. Both were good especially the Mincci. Its crispy ground pork and fried potatoes that goes very well with rice. The African chicken is a boneless pc of chicken with a slightly spicy sauce served with fries. It was ok but I preferred the mincci. The restaurant is clean, spcaious and the servers are nice. Its a good place to try Macanese traditional cuisine.

Small restaurant with a mix of traditional meals and Portuguese cuisine. It’s more of a cantine than a fancy place but worth to go if you are enjoying a weekend in Macau. Prices are cheap even if you are going for the big plates.

We ordered African chicken, portugese style fried rice, fish fillets, and lamb chops. The lamb chops were so juicy, wow.. The African chicken is definitely out of the world. The fish fillet tasted so amazing that we ordered one more portion of it. We wouldn't recommend the fried rice, though. But the rest of the food was damn good!

During our trip back to Macau, we decided to try Riquexó. We had a fantastic home style meal. We enjoyed several dishes, which included a traditional Macanese soup and then dessert. We enjoyed the Curry Chicken, Beef Minchi, and Vaca Estufada. Everything was prepared very well and served quickly. Highly recommended.

It was quite empty when I got there, they have separate space for dine in and take away. Food was super nice, felt homey and delicious. I recommend the minchi and african chicken, nicely seasoned, good portion, very nice. Owner was nice, eventho they really didnt speak english, they tried talking to us, somehow could communicate with them😅

This wonderful restaurant was the perfect welcome to Macau. It was perfectly comforting food & somehow reminiscent of home cooking, despite this being my first experience with Macanese cuisine. The minchee & Portuguese fried rice were both incredible. For my drink, I had the fig honey & it might've been the best drink of my life.
