The best thing about Rising Sun is its position on the Going to the Sun Road, especially if coming from the East. The complex included a restaurant/gift shop, a general store, motel rooms, cabins, and campground. We stayed in a cabin with a shared wall. (We could hear our neighbor snore.)The accommodations were rustic with paneled walls, creaky windows, and old carpet. There was a decent queen sized bed with good linens. The bathroom was small- holding just a toilet and small shower. There was a space heater on the wall, which was helpful in the mornings. The sink was in the room. The staff was welcoming and there was a decent restaurant on the premises, though generally a wait to be seated. Both the store and the restaurant were a longish walk from our cabin. The location had a view of the surrounding mountains but you could not see the lake. I had expected the lake to be closer when I read it was across the road, but it was actually across from the campground and required a short walk down the busy highway. Boat tours and the Glacier Park shuttle can be accessed there. Wi fi was only available in the lobby which I didn’t mind, but what I did mind is that there was no seating area. It seems to me it would be fairly easy for the proprietors to consolidate the gift shop shelving so that there was a place for guests or those waiting for a table in the restaurant to sit. It was odd to be there in the evening with people standing around everywhere looking at their devices. Overall, Rising Sun was an okay place to stay amongst limited options.

The best thing going for the Rising Sun Motor Inn is its location! Poised on the east side of the Going to the Sun Road, it allows easy early access to a sunrise hike at Logan Pass, as well as reasonable forays to Many Glacier and Waterton, Canada. I actually booked it over a year ago to avoid having to get vehicle passes for GTSR. As it turned out, the rules changed after my booking, and I did have to get the vehicle pass to get to the motel on GTSR when coming from the west. The room didn't have air conditioning, but we did okay without it. The lack of WIFi (except in the office) was more problematic, and the rooms could've used better coffeemakers, as well as the addition of small refrigerators & microwaves. An extra wooden bench would've been helpful too.

We went to the restaurant here while waiting to meet up with friends. We got there about half an hour before they said they finished serving lunch, so we were afraid we would be turned away, but the servers were super friendly, kind, and helpful, and they were happy to serve us lunch still. I had a brisket sandwich, which tasted a little too processed for my preference. My husband had a burger, and it was delicious. As in most National Parks, the food isn't the attraction, and it's over priced. But it was still a nice place to sit, with lovely big window views. The gift shop was cute and more unique than others. And the restrooms were nice.

Our stay was in a room in the Motor Inn and we found the room and bathroom to be recently renovated and spacious with comfortable Adirondack chairs out front. It had a decent restaurant and general store within walking distance. It was a great location within the park as well. Note, It is a motel room without Wi-Fi or tv and is no frills but we enjoyed our two nights here better than our stay over at Apgar, (which really needed a renovation). The only real drawback was not having a lobby or common area to sit in the evenings.

Very comfortable room located about 10 minutes from the east entrance of Glacier Park. There is an extensive gift shop next door, and is across the street from the boat dock. The Two Dog Flats restaurant on site is excellent - there is a rush right when they open for each meal, so if you're on a schedule you'll want to line up early.

As noted by others, the accommodations at Rising Sun are very pricey but you are paying for the convenience of being in the park and we felt it was well worth it in our case as we were trying to get as much as we could out of a one night stay. We stayed in a One Queen room in the lodge (separate building). The location was excellent...a short walk up the hill from the reception/restaurant and general store. The room was spacious, clean, cute and efficient. Having no A/C was not an issue with the cool night. We normally appreciate the white noise A/C units provide for sleeping but, despite thin walls, it was a quiet night. It would have been nice to have a fridge in the room and wifi to do some planning for the next day. Nice touch to have chairs outside each room to enjoy the last of the day's sunshine. With all the activity we wanted to get in, we didn't eat dinner at Two Dog Flats Restaurant until close to 8PM and there was lots of seating available at that time. We enjoyed the food/service and found the pricing reasonable. Got our wifi time in after dinner in the three seat reception area.

I honestly thought I was going to hate this hotel and it was my favorite location on glacier. The restaurant that was across the parking lot had excellent food. The location had just enough people to chat with, but not the hoards of people you will find at other locations!

Stayed here for the extraordinary views, accessibility to other parts of the park. I was impressed by their friendly staff who were helpful by providing an extra blanket, as it was very cold on day of our stay. Request them for a corner room, and maybe you’ll get to look at the Milky Way with a naked eye!

Yelp
I was thinking to use the reservation to substitute the reservation to going-to-the-sun road; however, it is not required in 2024 if entering the road from East Entrance. Therefore I would recommend St Mary Village (just outside the entrance) rather than Rising Sun Motor Inn this year. (Disclaimer, I do not have experience with St Mary Village, but I bet it would not be worse than Rising Sun Motor Inn) There is no mobile signals, and wifi is only available in the lobby. (There are only three chairs there. There are benches outside the office, which could have signals sometime. ) The onsite restaurant, TWO DOG FLATS, is not recommended, at least for what I ordered: ROAST BEEF CLUB & FLAT IRON STEAK. The restaurant in St Mary Village, SNOWGOOSE BAR GRILL, is MUUUCH BETTER. We took the RIBEYE and SHRIMP & GRITS there. (And the gift shop is slightly cheaper than the in-park ones, which might be my hallucination)

Yelp
This is a pretty basic hotel with a great location Within the park. We had an issue with our cabin and Addy was soooo amazing helping us find a solution. Really enjoyed our stay here and mainly bc of the customer service! Thanks Addy for making our stay so memorable!

Yelp
**A review of the Cabin with 2 Doubles Cleanliness: 4/5 Service: 4/5 Comfort: 5/5 Noise: 4/5 Overall: A good option when you are looking for lodging in the park. Be sure to get reservations in advance. The extended review... Cleanliness: 4/5 - The room was nice and clean along with the linens and towels. There were some bugs but you are in the woods. Service: 4/5 - Front desk was friendly. Comfort: 5/5 - The room was slightly tight but good for two. The beds were super comfy and I got a restful night of sleep after a long day of hiking. Noise: 4/5 - This cabin was adjacent to another room and you could hear your neighbors. Thankfully our neighbors weren't that loud.

Yelp
I'm just not a big fan of the rustic cabins. I never had more than a lukewarm shower in three nights. It is extremely rustic, even to the point of Spartan. It was very comfortable. But for that kind of money I'd really like a little more Comfort. On the positive side, it was within walking distance of a restaurant which had wonderful food. There's a nice little store. And for the most part, it was very quiet. And the view from the front step, wow. I wish there had been a place to put my chair that was more comfortable than the parking spot.

Neil M.

Yelp
The location is fantastic - convenient to everything on the west side of the park. The room had nice beds and it was just big enough for the two of us. The room did get warm during the day, but we were out hiking all day so it didn't matter - by night time it cooled off even during July. It's an easy walk down to the restaurant and their meals were quite good. I would stay here again. The staff at this location is extremely friendly and very knowledgeable.

Yelp
Stayed for 2 nights in August! The exterior of the building is very deceiving as the interior is extremely clean. Nice linens and sheets and a very comfortable bed. Large, clean bathroom. Would recommend.

Yelp
Rising Sun Motor Inn & Cabins....wow, what can I say. I stayed here on my final night during my exploration of Glacier National Park. I booked a cabin for the evening. Without a doubt....this was the BEST CABIN I have ever stayed in! Straight to the point....it was the most modern, clean and rustic little place. I couldn't have asked for more! I paid $185 for the night in the peak season of August. Yeah, I mean staying inside Glacier National Park....this price was pretty standard for any accommodations. I also spent one evening at a cabin at Lake McDonald Lodge, a night at the Swiftcurrent Motor Lodge in the Many Glacier area of the park...and they were all similar in price. For the convenience of these locations, it was worth I was able to maximize my time witnessing all the beautiful sights and attractions while not having to exit the park. It made the whole experience quite fulfilling. A few details from my cabin here at Rising Sun...... It was located towards the eastern (St. Mary) section of Glacier NP, right off Going to the Sun Road. The cabin was situated just behind the lodge, gift shop and the only restaurant here and in the area called - Two Dog Flats. So yes for dinner, the restaurant was congested with customers and I had to wait 1 hour to get a table. That was quite frustrating and was the only disappointment from my stay here at Rising Sun. I didn't sit down to eat until 8pm.....and service was slow...and I was quite tired from a long day. Back though to this amazing cabin...... It was within walking distance of Two Dog Flats restaurant. It was attached next to another cabin as you'd customarily see with townhouses....yet I had total privacy. I also had my own parking space. Inside the cabin....there were 2 full sized beds, a desk with an alarm clock....a very clean, well kept shower with loads of towels. I had my own sink with a mirror....as well as a functioning heater that made the room nice and comfortable as the temperature dropped at night. The whole interior of my cabin had a quaint little vibe to it, with carpeting and wood paneling. You could tell in my photos....the $185 I paid was well worth it. The shower had good running hot water....which was soothing after a chilly day where it rained most of the afternoon. The beds were satisfyingly comfortable w/ 4 pillows available to choose from. I was able to find the ideal fluffiness for my head while falling asleep. Needless to say I did have a wonderful night's rest. Overall, The whole setting was ideal. The cabin was located in the back doors, woodsy section of the lodge that enhanced the whole setting. I couldn't have asked for a better spot to stay, I was truly impressed.....and left with fond memories. Recalling all of my experiences sleeping in the outdoors, in nature and through most of my visits at national parks.....Rising Sun Inn and Cabins ranks up at the top of my list.

Yelp
The staff was very nice and helpful. Rustic but comfortable accommodations. Great location. Very dark at night, good for stargazing, just watch out for wildlife!

Yelp
I never expect much from such restaurants inside national parks, especially being a vegetarian. But this meal was so refreshing. After a long hike, we came here for late lunch/early dinner at 5pm. And I'm glad we chose this place! I got some tofu tacos that were so delicious. Husband got a burger that was also great. Hot dog and sundae from the kids menu and their bean soup were all pretty good too. We left satisfied!

Mark B.

Yelp
Really awesome place. Our kids loved it. It was amazing to stay inside glacier National park. After 5pm, you have the entire park to yourself. The hotel is nicely located near the St Mary lake, boat dock, visitor center, and amazing waterfall hikes. The guest services are great, with an excellent gift shop and restaurant. We'd definitely stay again.

Yelp
It's a very basic place to stay but for the price of $165/night on a Saturday in peak season July inside Glacier park, it's not bad at all! Especially since you're ~12 miles from Logan Pass Visitor Center where all the hubbub is. I can't think of any other National Park where staying at a hotel inside the park near the central location is less than $300/night.. though maybe it's because I'm mostly familiar with $$$ National parks in California and Utah. The location is near the east entrance so it's great if you're also wanting to do other well known hikes in that area (Grinnel Glacier, Iceberg Lake, etc.) Anyway it's a basic hotel like I mentioned. Decent bed and bathroom with toiletries. There's no cell reception and the WiFi is very limited. You have to go to the Two Dog Flats restaurant (where the check in lobby is) to get any WiFi. I personally really like that because you're in an incredible National Park, and this forces you to enjoy the scenery and the people you're with rather than screwing off on your phone. Instagram/Facebook/Snapchat can totally wait... trust me. Book quickly if you're looking during peak season because there are limited rooms!

Yelp
Inside Glacier National Park. Very close to St. Mary and surrounded by Mountains on all the sides. There is a creek which flows nearby. The staff at reception was friendly similar to other national parks. And the Cabin we had was amazing. It was cozy, clean, rustic and with all the necessities. There was Coffee maker, hair-dryer, good soap, shampoo, an Iron. Although the bed was a little too soft for our taste. I would like them to be a little bit more environmentally friendly and get rid of plastic coffee pouches, stirrers. Even Coffee-maker can be removed. We are in a national-park. And may be reduce the price a bit. It is great that there is NO WIFI in the rooms. And the restaurant is on the property serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised with the cleanliness of our room. Bathroom was very clean too. The walls are a little thin and I could hear the neighbor snoring. I turned on a little noise on my phone and then slept great. The cabins were remodeled not too long ago so they were in good condition. No WiFi or tv in the rooms, which I enjoyed. I loved the unplugged feeling. Cell phone service was also very limited but again, that didn't bother me. Service staff was very helpful.

Jenny P.

Yelp
Our room was totally remodeled and new. Adorable decor and clean bathroom. Great views.

Cindy W.

Yelp
Our room was a corner unit and totally and tastefully remodeled. The bed was very comfortable. I really loved the quaint style and the complex had a really pretty hike around it. The "Two Dog" restaurant on site was great and handy. The location in the park is ideal for accessing plenty of good hiking. A bear walk through the parking area right in front of our roomGreat place to stay when visiting the park. We stayed a week.

Nicole F.

Yelp
I'm a hotel snob but this time I was going for location and cleanliness and neither disappointed. Surrounded by mountains you are steps away from a lake and hikes galore. I liked having two dog flats restaurant right across the street. Plus, the staff is friendly and the rooms, while not much to them, are very clean and comfortable. Stayed in a store motel room at $115/night which is the cheapest at Glacier. Wouldn't hestitate to stay there again.

Jess D.

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised staying in one of the few hotel rooms next to the general store.Rooms were clean and modern despite not having TVs in the room and spotty WiFi (totally ok with lack of electronics since we were there for the park/mountains). Location was FANTASTIC in the beginning of going-to-the-sun road. Food at the on-site restaurant was good. We had a BBQ pork sandwich, cod sandwich, and pasta primavera along with local beer. My recommendation is to skip the $7 beer with dinner and grab a bottle at the general store in the same complex for $1.50! We sat on the covered porch of the hotel after dinner to enjoy the gorgeous mountain scenery while sipping a few beers. Would stay here again in the future.

Yelp
I have mixed reviews on this one. Let me say first off, the location of this lodge is AMAZING, and they charge you for it as well. We stayed in the motor inn part, they state on the website that they are a no frills lodge, so going into this you dont expect anything more than probably 2-3 stars, if that. The one thing that I DO expect anywhere, frills or not, is cleanliness. The bathroom was not as clean as it should have been and you can tell that the carpet had not been vacuumed in several months. It is a very old lodge and it was nice to see that they kept it that way, but the smell was not a clean smell when you walked in whatsoever. We were only staying one night and they were going to originally put us in a room over the store (attic), so we paid a little more to stay in the motor inn part...our total bill was $140.00, with no frills, a dirty bathroom, floor and the most uncomfortable bed ever. Now that I got the bad part out of the way, here comes the good stuff. The restaurant "Two Dog Flats Grill". Was excellent!!! The food was really pricey, but honestly, I don't mind spending good money on quality. For dinner I had the flank steak marinated in huckleberry bourbon glaze, with potato pancakes and veggies. The potato pancakes were homemade and delicious! My partner had the grilled salmon, with tortellini, in a lemon cream sauce, it was delicious as well. For breakfast I had the biscuits and gravy, and it was not that great, it had flour lumps and as all of us should know, thats a BIG no no when it comes to cream gravy. My partner had just your regular breakfast, eggs, bacon, and toast and it was good. The coffee from Montana Traders that they serve...is absolutely wonderful! They also serve Montana Natural Spring water as well and its great! I am pretty sure that most of the food they serve is all local, which is nice. The pros: Good food, coffee, and scenery The cons: prices are too high for what you get, and they need to focus more on cleanliness in the rooms

A B L.

Yelp
Clean, comfy and one of the most affordable options (along with the Swiftcurrent) in the park. Glacier is an amazing experience, and the Rising Sun is a great spot to rest if you're not the camping type. While I didn't seen the rooms at the "higher-end" options (McDonald Lodge or Many Glacier Hotel), I don't know that the quality of their rooms would justify the price tag. Best to go with the Motor Inns. And, I consider myself somewhat of a hotel snob.

Frank D.

Yelp
While visiting Glacier National Park we tried staying at this motor inn & cabins but was booked for the time we were traveling through. But we found the Two Dog Flat grill and ate there three times, found the food was great and the best part was the staff. We had Chelsea twice and Bethany once and both were very friendly and helped us with any questions we had about the area. The servers kept our water glasses full and our table clean at all times. The huckleberry pie was delicious!

Pink L.

Yelp
Location was great for exploring Glacier and the cabins were clean and well-sized given the remote location. Had some less-than-satisfactory experiences with the food and staff at the on site restaurant, but as far as the actual accommodations go we were satisfied - not blown away - by our experience.

A C.

Yelp
This review is for the rising sun motor inn. While I understand and applaud the difficulty and challenge of constructing lodging and other conveniences in terrains like glacier national park, I also must state that for the amount of money I paid, I do wish for some improvement/refursbishing [ just basic - replace the mesh on doors/windows and maybe paint the insides of the cabin a bit] The good: Excellent location, friendly reception/registration, very close to the boat tour for St mary lake. The gift shop is decent with drinks/snacks for you to restock for your drives/hikes through the park. The bad: Quite costly (around $150 a night in July) - There were a few insects I spotted in our cabin and bathroom - The cabin is tiny and the bathroom is probably the smallest I've seen. Being in a wooded area, there are plenty of insects/bugs right outside the cabin. So you'll need bug spray if you mind them. There is no A/C (understandable) and there was one box fan (thank god) - if you go and have mutliple beds, please request for additional box fans [box fans don't oscillate and i am surprised they don't equip the room with as many fans as beds - with the single box fan, occupants of only one bed get some air] Our neighboring cabin kept slamming the mesh door in the early morning and they could be heard through the thin walls. So bit of a noise factor as well. They need to refurbish the cabins soon. Not worth the money paid. There are other hotels in the park that we stayed in and those are much better (they don't carry much amenities but at least the rooms are nicer to sleep in).

Vicki M.

Yelp
We stayed here for several days. The cabins are very basic but decent, great views and great ambiance. Surprisingly quiet (we have stayed in cabins like these inside and outside several parks). Good location on E side of the park and very convenient with the good restaurant and store right there. My only complaint was about the housekeeping service; I am in my 50's and have traveled my whole life, stayed in 100's of hotels. The housekeeping service was easily one of the very WORST I have ever experienced. Every single day we had to trudge down the hill when we got back to the room for one or more things that hadn't been cleaned or replaced. One day it was no clean towels, one day no soap, no coffee, no coffee cups, etc. Dirty washcloths piled up in the shower day after day. Used coffee filters were left in the pot. After a couple days of this when I complained to the front desk, he sorta shrugged and said "Well we have a lot of new hosekeepers and they are still being trained." How much training do you need to know to leave clean towels???? Well if you can put up with this, it's a great place to stay in the Park.
