Very enjoyable stay in late November - a couple and 2 dogs. Excellent service from friendly, efficient and personable staff. Delicious and generous breakfasts - I especially enjoyed the two smoked salmon options. The room (no.3) was very clean, well appointed (though with no hairdryer), with a very comfortable, super king bed, lovely linen, large bath/shower room, and good views across the harbour. The only reason we wouldn’t stay overnight here, again, is the intermittent, droning noise emitted from the en suite and that of the neighbouring room, which continued through the day and night. It seemed to come from the water pipes, serving the shower and basin, causing the faucets to vibrate. It was so distracting. We didn’t mention it at the time, since it is improbable that the issue was not already known. Apart from that, The Rising Sun is a great choice for a short and dog-friendly stay in this beautiful location.

We visited The Rising Sun on a dreary rainy day in October, we were hungry and looking for somewhere to eat. The pub was full of families, kids etc and although has lovely decor, the dining area looked like a typical tourist spot that would serve bog standard food, but how wrong could we be. I had mussels in lobster and dill sauce, my husband had Thai chicken curry. Both of these dishes were delicious. I think they were the nicest mussels I ever ate, I could have licked a whole bowl of the sauce (well, I did), and it came with freshly baked focaccia and triple cooked chips. My husband’s curry was alive with lime leaves and bags of flavour. Honestly it was such an unexpected and pleasant surprise that it deserved a review. We will definitely visit again.

Me and my husband and our dog Harvey spent a couple of nights at the Rising Sun in St Mawes last week. We had a lovely room at the front of the hotel which was beautifully appointed - fantastic shower. The food in the restaurant was excellent, we dined there both nights as we were able to have our dog with us. The staff were very helpful when we wanted to move to a more 'dog friendly' table. The breakfasts were also outstanding. The weather helped and we enjoyed soaking up with sun with some pre-dinner drinks on the beautiful terrace - a lovely break.

I really enjoyed my stay (2 nights), great location, easy parking, very good breakfast and the staff is very discreet and polite. The room was extremly comfortable, cleaned to perfection. the only little snag was the window latches that need some attention and come unscrewed ! I am sure it will be sorted after the summer season (room 4). I would strongly recommend this hotel to anyone, the view on the harbour is great and you can jump out of bed and go for a swim, weather permitting ! only one minute walk... thanks to all.

The perfect end to a fairly windy day. We celebrated my father’s birthday here and everything from the decoration, service, lovely people was exceptional. I tried a new stout which was perfect for someone with my picky pallet and the steak blew me away. By far the best I’ve had this year. I would highly recommend.

We spent a delightful night at The Rising Sun, my husband and I, plus another couple.|We were able to book a lovely little cottage behind the pub: one bedroom upstairs with its own bathroom; one bedroom downstairs with an ensuite bathroom, plus a|cosy lounge area with tea and coffee facilities, small fridge. The room decor was |perfect. We also enjoyed our breakfast. Our previous visit was about 30 years ago, so hope to return sooner next time!

We had a room at the front of the property above the pub area. The room is spacious, clean, well furnished and decorated. The bath room had a lovely shower and again spacious. The coffee maker was a bonus as was the hot chocolate! The hand maid biscuits....I could go on! Then the breakfast, one of the best and we do travel a lot. From start to finish this was a fantastic couple of days, positioned in a great position of St Mawes

Never been before but will be back. Lovely welcome and very pleasant staff throughout our visit. Excellent food which represents great value over a chain pub. 10/10

Yelp
Popped in for a quick lunch. I am not sure why many people have given 3 star reviews. I found the food and service to be perfectly decent for a small town restaurant. I ordered fish and chips with mashed peas and a pint of local beer. The fish was huge for American standard and quite tasty. The chips (fries) were just okay. There are nicer restaurants in town if you're any a proper sit down meal, but for what Rising Sun offers I found it great.

Yelp
After catching the ferry from Falmouth across to St Mawes and being dragged through several shops, and with the treat of being dragged into several more, I dug my heels in and told my partner to rest her poor feet at this table outside this sweet pub and have a cup of tea, while I had a Guinness. They do have a few Cask ales here but none of them seemed to appeal to me. What did appeal were the Fish and chips that other customers had ordered and had it not been for the fact that I wasn't hungry I would have had some. They looked absolutely Gorgeous, had I know I wouldn't have seen any more looking as appetising for the rest of my Cornish visit I would have had some there and then (I am sure there are plenty of other places serving just as good but I never found anymore that week). Never mind it's a good reason to visit again.

Yelp
Friday night is Fish and Chip night: for the biggest portion of F+C's this side of a whale, try it soon! The Rising Sun has been reinventing itself recently, from boutique hotel with a fine restaurant to something with more mass appeal. Sometimes they get it right, other times they fail to resist the temptation to gouge!

Yelp
A venue that is superb but makes the mistake of thinking that trapped 'tourists' will put up with anything. Half pint of prawns that much nearer to shrimps, dry brown bread, plastic white bread, heavily laced with margarine and chips cooked on a very greasy over used fat - a waste of £25
