Ristorante Alle Fornaci

One of the best meals we had in Italy. The staffs were friendly and professional, and the food was amazing. We visited this restaurant on our first day in Matera, however it was fully booked, so we made a reservation for the next day. We loved the raw prawns and shrimps as well as the shrimp tartare spaghetti, very fresh and tasty. We were warmly welcomed, and the price was reasonable for the experience.

On a very short notice, i e-mailed them about availibility and without giving them enough time to respond I walked into the restaurant as we were staying in Matera for one night on our trip to Puglia. This is the place you want to eat. We compared the quality of food and the amount we paid for the food with all the restaurants we dined though out our trip. Ristorante Alle Fornaci was the bar we compared it to. Every single dish was delicious. Everything was fresh. Portions were amazing. Service was stunning. I mean - i really don't exaggerate and I am pretty sure this is a local place. On our last day in Bari, we even talked among us if we should drive to Matera for another meal just for the food. It was divine -- the foccacia they served warm at the restaurant was the best we had too. The octopus was the best I ever had in my life and the pasta with the raw purple shrimps was to die for.

Outstanding dining experience with professional service! The quality of the raw food and pasta dishes were top notch. The atmosphere is elegant. I went for lunch on a cold winter day of low season and they surprised me positively. I suggest the sea urchin pasta.

Excellent service and recommendations, delicious seafood selection!

This has been the best dinner experience thus far, two weeks into our Italian vacation! Our walking guide Alle Fornaci and we’re so glad he did. It’s not in the tourist part of Matera so we were the only non-locals dining. The staff was so kind and generous and their lovely manner - along with the outstanding food - made for a very memorable evening. The complimentary focaccia was the best we’ve had. The salted cod/creamed pea and tuna tartare starters were amazing and their presentation beautiful. Same with our main courses of pasta seafood and ravioli with mushroom, cheese and shrimp. The chocolate mousse dessert was gorgeous. After dinner they brought us a homemade sweet wine that we had to resist refilling our glasses too much! When a nearby table with a large group was having a special dessert prepared —(looked like gelato stirred rapidly with liqueurs added in) the waiter brought us a portion! Really, just an outstanding experience at this lovely family-run restaurant. Highly recommend!

Amazing authentic Pugliese cuisine ! The clams and truffle pasta dishes are must haves! The service was impeccable ! Grazie mille to our gracious waiter ! It was so good that we are already dreaming of coming back (from Paris) !

Exceptional lunch on a quiet Wednesday. Tuna and Seabass crudo, followed by truffled pasta with shrimp tartare. Main grilled seabass. Dessert very special Affogato. Very stylish ambiente. Reasonably priced. Perfect experience!

Excellent Italian seafood restaurant. We got the seafood platter and it was beyond amazing! The oysters, langoustine, and shrimp were extremely fresh, it’s as if I could taste the sea. I made a compliment on the oysters and the chef treated us with two extra shucked on the spot. The tagliatelle with raw shrimp and truffles were out of this world as well!! What a rare gem in Matera, will definitely come back!
