Traveling thru Helena & wanted Italian food. We used the app to make RSVP. We chose to be seated inside but wish we would have taken advantage of the patio area for dining because the weather was perfect. Mariia was great as our Server. Food was prepared like a true Italian restaurant, pasta, meatballs & desserts all made fresh in-house daily.

Wow! This please is amazing, the food the staff and the atmosphere are all 10/10. We had the veal and pappardelle with wagyu meat and it is honestly the best meal we have had in the states yet! The chefs are incredible. We arrived late at 9pm and still received amazing service and didn’t feel rushed in anyway. A special thank you to our waiter Liam who was welcoming, funny and a great guy. Highly recommend and might even come again tomorrow!

Prices are outrageous for what ends up in your plate. It is good but not that good. We do not drink wine, we stayed two hours in the restaurant and got two small half glasses of water despite asking for more. The appetizer plate is ridiculous for the $28 plus tip. We took two pasta dishes, again $28 plus tip for three spoonful of pasta. They are OK but by no means above average. That was enough for us. We skipped desert, went home and fixed ourselves diner. I do not recommend, there are better options in town.

Google
What an outrageous find!!! The owners are from Italy and make authentic dishes with unmatched flavor! My only piece of critical feedback would be the length of the service which was roughly 2.5 hours. Still, best 2.5 hours I’ve spent at a restaurant in years!!! The appetizer we got was my least favorite, only because I’m used to larger portions, no fault to the restaurant. Delicious regardless. We ordered the lasagna, the gnocchi, and the veal. All 3 were incredible. The gnocchi was by far the best gnocchi I have ever had in my life. The cream sauce was out of this world. I was scooping up every morsel of cream on my fork and spoon. I would have kicked the plate clean if it wasn’t so busy and people would be staring at me. The lasagna was at least ten fluffy layers of velvety smooth pasta, cheese, and sauce. Some of the best I’ve ever tasted. The veal was unfortunately over salted, but still quite good. The dessert was also a great way to conclude an epic meal!

Atmosphere was fine enough/comfortable. Music was good. Service staff was kind, thoughtful, attentive, friendly, chic. The food was the best I have ever had on the planet. I am not exaggerating. It was all fresh, beautiful, handmade, bright, genuine. The flavors were well paired and genius. I cannot say enough positive about the menu, the flavors, the authenticity, and talent. I felt real despair at the thought of not eating at that level, for every meal of my life. I felt for 3 days after eating there, “how can i ever eat normal, everyday food, again?” The chef deserves 2 Michelin stars..-And anyone whom would argue with me about that… -‘I’ll fight ya’. What did Helena do to attract and deserve such a chef genius?? We are MT for petes sake, not NYC, Amalfi, Paris, Monaco, Taipei, or Dubai!

Francesco was magnificent host! Our nine year anniversary was at the most perfect restaurante … first visit of many more to come. Highly recommend this little piece of Roma ). All our respect, always a friend … Alan

Another disappointing, over priced meal in Helena. We like going out to dinner and don't mind paying for fine dining when it delivers. Bella Roma did not. The waiter was condescending and unatentive. The portion of lasagna looked like a Ritz cracker served on a garbage can lid sized plate. The charcuterie board was half the size we shared last time. For a $240.00 meal we expect the food and service to both be exceptional but last night, neither were worth it.

I love eating here. Best service. Best food. As a person with Celiac Disease, I appreciate the care and consideration that is put into the preparation of my food. Ristorante Bella Roma is the best! My server Travis took very good care of me and made my dining experience wonderful. Eating here is one of my favorite parts of going to Helena. ❤️

Yelp
The food here is absolutely top notch! I have the wagyu steak every time we go. They offer a wine pairing with each course and have an excellent selection. Also...cannoli! It's topped with crush pistachios and is fantastic! Be prepared for a little sticker shock as it is not inexpensive, however; you Get what you pay for!

Yelp
We went in to celebrate my husbands birthday... and what a weird experience. We had a 6:45 reservation and got seated right away. And then we waited... for about 10 minutes to get our drink order taken, another 10 to get our drinks (tonic water with lime and a glass of wine). You could tell things were hectic for wait staff and the kitchen but we are patient so didn't get to upset at that point. We ordered our food after drinks were delivered (caprese salad, Caesar salad, gnocchi and another pasta dish- what my husband ordered isn't want he actually received). Then we waited for 45 minutes. Our waitress kept coming back and apologizing for the wait. At 45 minutes in she came to our table and asked what she could do to make it right with the wait time (we still hadn't gotten our food). We were very polite and just asked for a timeframe on when we might be getting food- she said 12 minutes and told me she'd bring a complimentary glass of wine because of the wait. Another 20 minutes go by (officially at 1 hour with no salads or entree)- both our drinks have been empty for sometime now... she comes by again to apologize for the wait. I asked if we could at least get our salads? She responded "oh my gosh, I thought they'd been brought out already?!" At this point, we were ready to walk out, but she came back again and said "your meal will be comped" and was extremely apologetic, and then brought out my husbands Caesar salad (but not mine). About 5 minutes later (1.5 hours into this debacle), our main dishes come, and then my caprese salad arrives. Now, the food was actually good and we enjoyed it once we had it, but the wait, and not getting our salads before was crummy. We finish eating (still no drink refills, wine she was bringing never showed up), she comes to grab our plates and says she will bring our bill. I was surprised but thought "okay, maybe we'll pay for our drinks?". We weren't expecting a free meal, but when the waitress says "I'm so sorry for the wait, I'm comping your meal" you assume it meals the meal... bill arrives and she had 2 caprese salads and had just removed the cost for my entree.... So we still had a bill for $70 (after I told her she needed to take 1 caprese off because we only had 1). We paid the bill (I wasn't going to make it weird) and walked out. The food was good when we finally got it, but the service was atrocious and weird. Wouldn't recommend.

Yelp
This place could be amazing... but falls short. From the young host/server chewing gum, to being served a red wine when I had asked for Bianchello (a white) the service was underwhelming. I had high hopes for the food, but was disappointed in that as well. It was good, don't get me wrong, just not great... especially for the price point.

Yelp
In the morning, this restaurant is used as the breakfast area for the attached Doubletree Hotel. Food is in an adjoining room setup on counters with an omelet station where an attendant makes your eggs to order. Then you take your food back to your table at the restaurant. Servers come around to fill your drink and clear your plate. The décor here is a few levels up from a traditional hotel restaurant and is rather interesting. I would love to have seen it at night when it dresses up in white tablecloths and mood lighting. Next time.

Yelp
Fabulous food, Fabulous staff, enjoyed every minute and detail the food was extraordinary and the staff were soo attentive loved it highly recommend!

adam c.

Yelp
The food and staff were great!!! The food was way better than I imagined. The customer service was really good. They were not up in our face but they had decent timing when we needed something. It was all around great and worth it. Highly recommend.

Dan P.

Yelp
Food was good (what was still available). Service was atrocious. Workers were disappearing and/or yelling at each other... really ruined the environment. Customers were growing more and more impatient as their wait continued to get longer and longer. I wanted to like it, but it was a really crappy experience.

Jan Hill

Yelp
Had a reservation, and our table was ready when we arrived. Waiter was attentive, entrees were delicious, and desserts were wonderful.

Jenn G.

Yelp
I'm absolutely shocked this isn't a 5 star restaurant. I've been to Italy several times, and the food here is 100% authentic Italian food. The pasta is made from scratch, the bread from scratch, the sauces are excellent, and nothing was frozen. It was also reasonably priced for the quality. Brandy served us, and she was lovely. She had a cute and sweet personality and made great recommendations. The ambiance was great as well. The presentation of the food was fantastic I highly recommend, five stars! Oh! Last, the wine was also great and priced well.

Yelp
For the first time my wife and I experienced the Italian ristorante Bella Roma, this last Valentine's Day. We had searched hard for a place to go for a great steak, and the local steakhouses didn't have great reviews, so we opted for Bella Roma, and chose the 4 course meal for two! It was in the building of a hotel, which was a little weird for such a fancy place, but I guess that doesn't matter. It stared with coffees and super soft focaccia bread with olive oil and vinegar to dip in. Very good! I loved that. Then our first of 4 courses was an appetizer. Mine was a fancy salad and cheese with thin raw filet minion slices. I had to think twice about the raw meat but decided to go for it. (I'm not versed in fancy food and couldn't rename those fancy food names if my life depended on it). It was very good though! My wife had some tomato soup type thing with breadsticks. For the second course we both had salad. Hers was spinach with walnuts and blue cheese, and mine was Ceasers and came with a whole head of romaine lettuce still together! I'd never seen that before. It was okay but was my least favorite part of the meal. The third course, was of course the steak and potatoes. I got the 16oz ribeye medium rare, and my wife got the 8oz filet medium rare. Hers was more medium and mine was more rare, and it was very soft and buttery, although I would have opted for a bit more cooked, but it was still delicious. The potatoes were very good too. I was approaching critical fullness and couldn't finish the steak if I wanted to save room for the dessert. For desert both my wife and I had the cannolis. They were very good and it took us about 30 minutes to stuff them in our tummies. I recommend the cannolis. The service was also very good, we couldn't take two sips from our water before they were there refilling the glasses. They were very attentive and our waiter was very nice. This place was not cheap though! This dinner ended up being the most expensive dinner my wife and I had ever had in our lives, but thankfully we are blessed and can afford if for a special occasion like this, and for the first time in years we were able to dine free of our children! (Thanks to our amazing neighbors)! love you guys!! I recommend Bella Roma for fancy occasions, they do make delicious food and have great service!

Yelp
Tasty Italian, nice relaxing atmosphere, freshly grated cheese, some good wine, now I would like to watch The Godfather!

Deborah D.

Yelp
Best Italian food in Helena! Authentic Roman menu and the only restaurant pasta I will eat in town. It's strangely attached to a hotel so the ambiance isn't great but the food is. I strongly suggest making a reservation.

Julie R.

Yelp
This is a wonderful restaurant inside the Doubletree hotel in Helena, Montana. Everything is delicious. The restaurant is not very big but conveniently located in the center of town. My husband loves their Carpaccio Di Manzo and I really enjoy the Insalata Di Cesare. For dinner my husband had the Saltinbocca Alla Romana and I had the Spaghetti Alla Carbonara. Everything was delicious!

Dan M.

Yelp
We had a delicious meal tonight at Bella Roma. The service was excellent, and the delightful chef came out and chatted with us for quite a while. Highly recommend this restaurant!

Jackie B.

Yelp
We celebrate Valentine's Day at Bella Roma and had an amazing 4 course dinner and perfectly paired wine. The staff and atmosphere were just lovely! We felt like we were in the " big city". We would definitely recommend Belle Roma and plan to dine there again.

Jena D.

Yelp
I wish I could give 10 stars. One of THE best Italian experiences we've ever had, makes me wanna go to Italy right now. The chef/owner always comes out and brings us little surprises, one time it was homemade chocolates, this time it was chicken. The manager is always genuine and welcoming, the hostess is warm and friendly, she got down on my granddaughter's level to talk to her. The waiters and waitresses are always very knowledgeable and make you feel right at home. The restaurant has a cozy but elegant vibe, extremely busy and lively. Seems like home but also as if you're in a big city dining in a very fancy place. I always see the owner come out and hug people, talk about soccer and just enjoy their visits. Last but not least, THE FOOD is to die for. I've never had spaghetti carbonara like this, my husband had the wagyu steak and the sauce was heavenly. And the cannolis?!?! Aahhhhh, could eat 5 in a sitting if we weren't so darn full. Even the coffee is out of this world good. I wish I could keep it under wraps how good it is to ensure we always have a chance to eat here but it would also be criminal to keep It a secret. Sorprendente!

Ricardo M.

Yelp
Everything was delicious . Thank you Antonio (Maître ), Drew and Tyler, for the service with a smile.

Marian H.

Yelp
Had a reservation. Was told they were closed by hostess. I then showed that I had a reservation. Heard the bartender call out "I'm not making anymore drinks." WE OBVIOUSLY LEFT!

Debora S.

Yelp
Excellent food friendly staff and the ambiance is pleasant. The quality of the dishes are well above typical Italian restaurant.

Keith M.

Yelp
Awesome meal. Great cocktails. Very accommodating wait staff. Highly recommended, for authentic Italian cuisine.

Sean B.

Yelp
Try the roasted Caesar salad! Great space, service and food. Often have tables for walk ins.

Keith E.

Yelp
Waited over an hour to get any food after being seated , yes got a discount on check , but that's not what I wanted. I wanted good hot food!! 2 tables sat after we did- both of 2 - served before I was, all we ordered was pasta! Short handed but still Calamari shrimp appetizer that was all under cooked - Over priced for the experience ,

Katie R.

Yelp
This was our first time dining at Bella Roma and I don't usually leave reviews, but times are tough so small businesses and maybe this will help them grow. We went this past Saturday for a much needed date night. I called while we were parking as we were debating between to close restaurants and wanted t decide based on wait time. The other location had a wait of almost 2 hours. Bella Roma stated their wait time was about 30 minutes. We walked in just a couple minutes later to be told that the earliest they could seat us, would be 8pm. It was 6:30. I explained that I literally just called and was told 30 minutes and we were the only ones in the waiting area. The host didn't respond about that and said we could sit in the bar but the food would take longer. That was fine with us and we sat at the bar. Also to add, when we walked in, the first thing we heard was the manager and a server arguing about a wine they didn't have. It was awkward. Anyways, we sit down at the bar and the bartender was very nice. We assumed he would be the one taking care of us, but the manager walked over and took over. I ordered a Shirley Temple and my boyfriend ordered a Coke, as we both don't drink. The manager then explained the menu and how the 4 courses worked. He failed to mention that the steak is an additional $30 on top of the $80 but we read that ourselves on the menu. The food started coming out and it was fine, nothing amazing. I asked for a refill and he told me that refills cost. I thought he was joking. For the price we were paying for dinner, that a Shirley Temple wouldn't have free refills. I asked if that meant the Coke would also not be free refills and he said correct. The bartender was clearly irritated by this and when the manager walked away, he assured us that our sodas would not be charged for refills. We spent the remainder of our dinner listening to staff talk poorly about each other, talk about how the owner is leaving people in charge that shouldn't be in charge, etc. My ravioli was delicious. Definitely the best part of the dinner. Then, the kicker was the steak. It tasted as good as the steak we recently got at Applebees. There was nothing wrong with it, but it certainly wasn't worth the money we spent on it. All in all, our dinner plus tip was $240 and we will not be back. There was nothing special to bring us back for that amount.

Gordon D S.

Yelp
Fantastic true Italian The food was amazing. Reminded me of Florence. Hot fresh presentation

P D.

Yelp
The service was great. The staff provided excellent service. The food was absolutely amazing. Enjoyed our evening.

Lauren Dykstra ..

Yelp
Came in as a solo guest- sat at the bar and Shannon took great care of me. I enjoyed the burrata salad and the Amatriciana pasta- both exceeded what I was expecting. Service was warm and timely, food was fresh and flavorful and their wine options (both by the glass, cellar selection as well as recommended pairings for each dish) were on point.

Jean S.

Yelp
The food, service and wine were amazing!!! Added bonus that if you are staying in the Doubletree hitel next door you can take a glass of wine to go!!! I sat at the bar and the bartender was my server as well and she was wonderful the salad, entree and dessert were all delicious!!

B M.

Yelp
Excellent food and service in Helena. Great selection and authentic. Great drink menu also.

Steen B.

Yelp
Italian flair dining room, very nice people and food was delicious. They got us right in to bar seating as it was busy with prom night.

Chelsey E.

Yelp
We loved our food and the service was fantastic! We will definitely go there again-a new favorite for sure!

Fabiana K.

Yelp
I'm just in Helena for a couple of weeks and let me tell you from someone born and raised in Italy, this is where you need to go for authentic Italian food. The owners are extremely nice and welcoming, just like the staff! The food is prepared just like the one I would find back home, and the ingredients are extremely fresh. I ordered a caprese to start, the balsamic vinegar and oil were extremely tasty and so was the side of focaccia. For a main course, I decided to go with Ravioli Al tartufo, you could taste the flavor of the truffle in the white sauce. The ravioli were filled with 5 cheese mixure and topped with Parmigiano reggiano. To end my meal, I ordered tiramisu (tasted just like the one my parents make) and a caffè lungo.

Dr G.

Yelp
One of only a small number of restaurants in Helena worth repeat visits. The cuisine is always superbly delicious, the service is consistently excellent, and the ambiance is amiable. If you only visit one restaurant in the culinary desert known as Helena, make sure it is Bella Roma!!

Nanette L.

Yelp
Extremely disappointed. My chicken Cacciatore was so salty I couldn't even eat it. We had a table of 7 and they "respectfully requested" no more than 2 transactions per table. So, I had to pay a $4 fee at the cash machine to accommodate their wishes. I won't be back.

Tori P.

Yelp
I've got to say - Bella Roma is hands down, the better of the Italian restaurants in the city and quite frankly, the best restaurant I've dined at in Helena. My boyfriend and I wanted to have a fancy date night and so we treated ourselves to the 4 course dinner with the wine pairing. We obviously opted to go family style so we could maximize the number of dishes we could try. So this will be a lengthy review as it relates to the food. [Star1] Food quality? (this is a long one folks) - Divine. For appetizers we started with the tagliere di prosciuto di parma e mozzarella and it was love at first bite. We knew that we were in for a delicious adventure. Foccacia was nice and buttery and salty - almost too salty on its own but it honestly complemented the rest of the items on the dish. We also ordered the vongole which honestly was one of the best ones I've had. Loved the subtle hint of pesto. We were slurping every bit of this until the servers had come to clear it. - For salads we both got the cesar but we both wanted our own - love that they served essentially a whole grilled heart of romaine lettuce and assembled the salad on top. I especially loved the wine pairing for the salad - super creamy but refreshing. - For our main course, we ordered the saltinbocca alla romana (veal) and special of the night, which was a cream based pasta with their house made sausage and mushrooms. Honestly by this point I was honestly starting to get really full but we were determined to finish what we started. The pasta (tagliatele) was perfectly al dente though the sausage was a bit too salty/heavy for me. The veal was probably the most underwhelming dish for me. We had debated ordering the ragu and at that point, we had regretted that we didn't (though two pastas between the two of us seemed like instant food coma in the making.) - And lastly for dessert we got the cannoli and tiramisu. I barely got a bite of both in for these because I was getting real full but they were both delicious and I really loved the espresso with kahlua that come along with it. Stars all around here. [Star2] Price Point? Given that we were going for a special date night, this was truly a fantastic 4 course meal for $75 + $32 with the wine pairing. I was impressed with the portion sizes - especially with the pasta. I'm saddened to know that once upon a time the course meal was $50 but inflation, okay. This is honestly on par with some of the LA pasta restaurants I've had and you can tell the ingredients are quality. Star. [Star3] Service? Honestly so friendly and attentive. One of the chefs came out at the end of the night and check in on us and gave us some limoncella as a digestive. Chefs kiss. Star. [Star4] Ambiance? I will say it gets packed so definitely make reservations ahead of time. Tables are close together and it's loud and a bit boisterous. You've got some italian opera playing in the opera if you close your eyes and try your hardest to listen but let's be real, you're not here for the music. I think that really makes the experience. Plus, you've got Italians working here - how can you say this is not authentic?! Star. [Star5] Would I come back again? Absolutely. I probably wouldn't do the 4 course meal again but rather just pick and choose a few dishes. I would love to try the carpaccio, the ragu, and maybe even the ribeye or filet mignon. Star here for sure. Thank you Bella Roma for an exquisite dining experience (and last night in Helena...for this month!)

Raeghan J.

Yelp
I went to Bella Roma with my fiancé to celebrate. We were greeted by Travis, who was an absolutely incredible host. We were shown the menu and he explained what items would best fit our tastes. The atmosphere in the restaurant was very comfortable. We ordered the 4 course menu to share, and we both agreed that this was the best meal we have had in Montana. I'm extremely impressed and will be coming back as soon as we can - and will be asking for Travis. Thank you Bella Roma for allowing us to have this experience!

S E.

Yelp
salads & tiramisu were delicious. gnocchi were little piles of mush & kitchen said they knew they weren't cooking up correctly but didn't pull the dish. sauce on gnocchi was very good. service was slow but adequate. music was way too loud and who needs 70's playlist while dining

John G.

Yelp
Fantastic food in a relaxing atmosphere. We were informed when we arrived that they were short-staffed and they were doing the best they could do. We respected them for letting us know up front. The restaurant was less than half full and we observed that the wait staff did a pretty good job of covering for each other but not coming across as being stressed which added to the relaxing atmosphere. Once we ordered an appetizer (Carpaccio Di Manzo - amazing) and a couple of cocktails the wait was not extraordinary long for it to arrive. We then placed our order for our entree's (Linguine Vongole Pachino E Pinoli & Saltinbocca Alla Romana - delicious) and again the wait was not extraordinary long for them to arrive. And boy was it worth the wait. The Yukon Gold roasted potatoes with the Veal on the Saltincocca dish were phenomenal, crunchy on the outside but marshmallow soft on the inside. The clam dish was just as amazing with the Pinot Grigio and grape tomatoes pairing very well with the small Manila clams. We look forward to our next visit to Bella Roma. If enjoy good Italian food, this is definitely worth a visit!

Duane G.

Yelp
Lasagna was pretty good, 4 stars. Ate about half of it and asked for a to go box, which I didn't get. So I only got half of what I paid for

SD G.

Yelp
Great Italian flavors. The service was nice. Great bar drinks selection. A little cold in the dining room but still nice atmosphere.

Miles S.

Yelp
Really good food. A little bit pricy but it's a really nice restaurant and it's good quality food. Not sure if they're open for lunch and dinner or only dinner but would be good for them to offer lunch.

H-Town P.

Yelp
Wow! We have our usual spots in Helena... one of which has been underwhelming lately so we decided to hit Bella Roma tonight. The food was incredible and the service matched. Shannon took outstanding care of us and the manager checked on us constantly. The ribeye was probably the best steak I've had in Helena to date. Do yourself a favor: next date night is Bella Roma all the way (ask for Shannon).

Glenn B.

Yelp
Beautiful and authentic Italian restaurant. Best in town by a long shot!! Homemade pastas, fun wine and drink list and great service. Not to be missed when in Helena!

Bruce K.

Yelp
Late on a Saturday night, we were pleased to see that Bella Roma in the Doubletree Hotel was still serving dinner when we arrived at 9:45 PM. We were warmly welcomed by the hostess and our waitress. There were no other diners in the restaurant the entire time we were there. I enjoyed by dinner, a fettuccine ordered from the bar menu. Pasta cooked al dente and served with four delicious meatballs. Very tasty. Mom thought that her pasta was a bit too oily and salty, a spaghetti tossed with basil in a pomodoro sauce with sauteed grape tomatoes. We did have our waitress running quite a bit. Bread. Butter. A spoon for twirling the pasta (she seemed a little perplexed and first brought us a teaspoon and then a soup spoon which we made do with). In the end, an inexpensive meal (hooray for the bar menu) that I enjoyed and mom thought was two stars. So we're here at four because this is my review and not hers.

Rebecca S.

Yelp
Service is great. The food is okay, not great. Ordered the special, which was a seafood pasta. It tasted like it was made w canned mini shrimp. Next time I'm going to On Broadway.

Tyson H.

Yelp
Very good food and AMAZING service. It is hard to find proper Italian in MT and I was shocked that this place was tucked away in Helena. The only downside was our last course, which had very undercooked pasta but the other pasta course and rest of the meal, wine, and service, were all great!

Ivan B.

Yelp
Please paint that orange wall red. Food was great. Portions are dangerously close to being to small. Other than that it felt very nice and classy. We definitely will be returning.

Laura N.

Yelp
Omg only half of a mixed drink in my glass. Tasted like reheated lasagna from the grocery store with small portions. Don't bother

Matt S.

Yelp
The food was outstanding. I had the veal and it couldn't have been prepared any better. The lasagna and the other pasta dish my wife and friends had was a huge hit. The four of us left the restaurant feeling very good about the experience, the service and dinner. Highly recommend it if you're in Helena.

Bonnie S.

Yelp
I am actually leaving a review for there Bella Roma Market across the crosswalk. Love the different varieties of higher end goods. The Lasagna di carne in the freezer is perfect for Monday night suppers when you just don't feel like cooking from scratch or cut in portions for workday lunches! Antonio, is always welcoming with his knowledge and a smile .
