Our family of three stopped for dinner at this place and we absolutely loved it! All the food we ordered was amazing and very tasty, especially marinated eggplant - is to die for!!!!! Great selection of all kinds of wine, local and regional appetizers, charcuterie boards, main dishes and desserts. Cocktails and other drinks are available too. The atmosphere is nice and quiet, easy to talk. Family friendly. Service was excellent, waiters very helpful and friendly. Highly recommend this place!

An excellent restaurant, which, despite its very elegant aura, maintains a surprisingly close-to-the-customer manner. Very friendly and committed waiters and low prices complement the delicious food, which includes local specialties, led by stuffed pasta or meats (the menu includes horse dishes unique to the region in various versions). The menu is relatively short and to the point, which I consider as a sign of professionalism. I also recommend the restaurant because of its beautiful interior and amazing cellars, which take you back hundreds of years — contrary to appearances, this is not the standard in Parma restaurants.

A Truly Exceptional Dining Experience in Parma! My recent visit to Gallo d'Oro was an absolute delight from start to finish. I started with the Parma ham starter selection, which was truly amazing, perfectly complemented by the traditional fried bread. For the main course, the pasta dishes were incredibly tasty, and I must specifically commend the truffle pasta – it was nothing short of exceptional! Beyond the exquisite food, the service was incredibly friendly, making the entire meal even more enjoyable. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an authentic and delicious dining experience in Parma. I can't wait to go back!

For our first dinner in Parma, we went to Gallo D’Oro, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint! The service was excellent! We were seated immediately. Our server was very helpful in educating us about the various things that they had on the menu. We started off with Culatello di Zibella, torta frittata, strolghino, and a platter of assorted cheeses. We then had stuffed pappardelle with duck ragu, and cappelletti with strolghino ragu. Both were excellent. We finished our meal with some Panna cotta and crème brûlée. Everything was so good that we came back a couple days later. On our second visit, we again started off with some Culatello di Zibella and torta fritta, and this time we had duck breast in a red spruce bud syrup, and veal in a Parmigiano Reggiano sauce. Again, everything was absolutely delicious! I highly recommend visiting Gallo D’Oro if you ever find yourself in Parma!

We had high expectations for the food in Parma and this met them, if not exceeded our expectations. The prosciutto and Parmesan cheese was excellent. I also recommend the balsamic vinegar.

I wish I had taken more pictures ! This restaurant has a great menu and home made pasta ! If you don’t know the torta fritta yet, try it with with a plate of prosciutto, you will love it ! Warm and melting in the mouth, I had the risotto alle Zucca (Pumpkin) and it was delicious ! We were a family of 5 and loved everything. Highly recommended ! I suggest to make a réservation. The restaurant is open on Sunday and doesn’t close right after lunch time which seems to be rare in Parma… we had to wait 15-20 minutes before having a table available for us. No issue with that but if you have a réservation, you will not wait. I wish I had taken more pictures, I am posting the Torta fritta and my risotto

This place was one of the best restaurants on our trip around Italy. The prosciutto board w the bread was next level. They clearly source the best meats in town. Don’t miss that one! Followed by the ragu and prawn pasta. Both pastas were outstanding! Highly recommend!

Yelp
We loved the Golden Rooster (Gallo D'Oro). The food was very good - my wife had the Tris Di Tortelli which was served in the shape of the Italian flag, and enjoyed i. I decided to be adventurous and had Vecchia Cavallo (horse) on the advice of our waiter who explained that it was a Parma delicacy. It was very tasty with sauteed onions, red peppers and tomatoes. The only food item we were not happy with was the bread, a dense, white biscuit-ish type that for our palates was bland. Dametreo (see photo) was easily the best waiter we have had in our first week in Italy - super friendly, knowledgeable about every menu item, and spoke very good English. Ambiance was nice with a rustic feel and tables were not crowded together as in some places we ate. While some reviewers said this was upscale, the cost seemed reasonable - 13 euros per main dish - and my artisanal birra (Freeride) from a Ligurian craft brewery was very nice, an IPA without the typical bite (5.5 euros). My wife is on a Tiramisu quest, so we had to try their Tiramisu and it was great. It was the traditional type (not smothered in marscapone) and came with caffe granitas on the side, which was a nice twist. The location is very convenient, close to Piazza Garibaldi in the old town area, so near the Opera and other attractions. Very enjoyable place to dine!

Yelp
Let me say there are few if any purely tourist restaurants in Parma. Their love of quality food is embedded in their DNA. They cannot serve food that is not perfect. That said, as popular as Gallod'Oro is the food is outstanding. We started with a mixed plate appetizer with Torta Fritta. I had the Risotto with black truffles and my wife had the Ravioli parmigiana with black truffles. You haven't tasted prosciutto until you have had it sliced fresh and served. The staff were all great and the restaurant has separate rooms and outside dining.

Yelp
Cute little Resturant great reviews but thought the food was just average, not bad but not great. I would say if you want to try it and maybe you will like it more.

Yelp
Galla d'Or is a must try while in Parma. The staff was friendly and spoke English and provided some excellent recommendations. We started with the meat prosciutto sampler and the cheese player with fried bread. It was really good. The cut the meat and cheese fresh. For our main dishes, we had the ravioli with cheese and truffle in a brown butter sauce. FANTASTIC. Highly recommend to go early and or make a reservation.

Yelp
Although my party of 2 was seated without a reservation, I would definitely recommend making one as the restaurant was packed and, at times, turning customers away. Not being incredible hungry, we ordered the fried bread, tortellini, and eggplant parmigiano. Fried bread: Yes. Always "yes" to fried carbs. Tortellini: Solid five stars on those. Eggplant Parmigiano: Rather disappointing. However, here's my thought process. Eggplant Parmesan is one of the "things to get" in this area, so naturally, this restaurant being a lauded example of delicious dining, would be a fabulous place to experience a true Eggplant Parmesan. My prior exposure to this dish was always mediocre, so I hoped that either this rendition would blow my frickin' mind away and leave me forever saying "Oh, but you haven't tasted REAL Eggplant Parmesan," or I'd just realize it really wasn't going to be my thing. Verdict? I'll never be an Eggplant Parmesan connoisseur. But fried bread ALL THE WAY.

Yelp
Made a reservation through 'the fork' easy and table without hassle. Food was good. Had simple standard fare, potato ravioli and pappardelle a la ragú. Simple white wine salad and tiramisu for desert. Service was fine. It was an enjoyable meal in a nice location.

Yelp
Not the best to be honest, service was very very slow, we waited an hour before we got our food and it wasn't even that busy. Food was ok, not the best. Portions were not the best looking and food wasn't even that warm. Kind of disappointed in our choosing of this place

Yelp
This my favorite italian restaurant in Parma. In the middle of the old town, great atmosphere, you can seat outside in the patio and inside in the different floors. The have great apetizers, Parma ham of course, but as well wonderful bruschetta's. Regarding the pasta they have very good home made filled pastas. I look forward to go back.

Yelp
Gallo D'Oro is an upscale restaurant in old town Parma, with a very nice atmosphere and a good, if somewhat pricey menu. It was quite crowded, but we managed to snag what seemed to be the only table in the enclosed front patio. The patio is most likely open when the temperature warms up, but that wasn't the case on this chilly night. Because we were in the patio area, decor was kind of plain, but up half a flight of stairs is the main dining room, and it's a warm and inviting old-world beauty. Unfortunately for us (but good for our wallet), we'd had drinks at a bar in the main plaza not long earlier, and drinks in this part of Italy come with half a meal! I don't know how the Italians eat all that delicious snack food and then go out to eat a full dinner. So we weren't all that hungry. But staying in a hotel means you don't get to eat until the next morning, so we didn't go whole hog. We shared an appetizer of Giant Pumpkin Ravioli. I thought it was going to be a zucchini filling because, at least in Spanish, it's the same word for pumpkin and zucchini; but no, it had real pumpkin filling and was covered with a delicious and very rich sauce. It was definitely home-made pasta, and wonderful. "Filling" was the key word, because by the time we finished it, we were almost too full to enjoy the two glasses of Frizzante wine and the sauteed spinach and zucchini that we'd ordered along with it. But we managed, because that, too, was delicious. We had a great time with the food and during the very long conversation we had with the two young Italian ladies seated next to us, and regret that we couldn't get to try some of their main courses. Note: the patio area is handicapped-accessible. Just make sure you don't have to use the bathroom!!

Yelp
This restaurant is fantastic. The pasta dishes taste amazing. There is raw horse and roast horse on the menu if you feel adventurous. Definitely worth a visit.

Yelp
Lovely meal. I had the trio of ravioli and the rabbit. My husband had tortellini and the pistachio crusted lamb. We enjoyed everything very much. Even the house red wine was very enjoyable.
