Yelp
Cantina is a large restaurant with both inside and outside dining areas in a very central location. We stumbled upon it easily while wandering the streets of this tiny Umbrian town.
Service was both friendly and prompt.
The menu is comprehensive with local Umbrian delicacies (beef), a small selection of seafood dishes, and an extensive pizza menu.
I started with the carpaccio, which was a few large slices of dried beef, served with fresh soft cheese and "candied grapes" on top of a bed of mixed greens. I expected the grapes to be similar to raisins but they were still juicy and moist. Portion was pretty large for one person as an appetizer.
Because it was a chilly day I also opted for the "pappa al pomodoro," a traditional Umbrian soup. It's described as a soup with bread, fresh tomato, and fresh cheese, but it's literally puréed tomatoes and bread with a dollop of fresh cheese. Definitely a comfort food! I topped mine with a splash of olive oil, which added a nice fresh flavor to the mix.
I was stuffed by the time it arrived so only gave my main dish (a coregone filet) a cursory taste. It was cooked well but I just couldn't make more room! (In case you don't know - I didn't! - coregone is a whitefish, somewhat similar to trout in texture and flavor but a bit meatier.)
Would eat here again!
