Yelp
A WINNER IN SIENA
I have dined at the finest restaurants across the globe ( Le Maisson du Cygnet in Brussels, Cirque and about every Bobby Flay restaurant in NYC, etc. ) and find none having devoted the attention to the quality of cuisine this fine establishment pays to every dish. The preparation of the antipasto reflected perfect curing of the meats and artful treatment of the marinated artichoke heart. My wife's caprese salad included the freshest basil, and the lightest, creameast mozzarella she'd ever tasted. The balsamic was moderate at best, and contained a caramel dye (which is of questionable safety for celiacs), but the salad was so good she didn't want the balsamic
. For those who don't suffer from celiac disease, the bread was not the best I've ever had, but it was not far enough below average to ding the overall rating. The gnocchi was light, fluffy, flavorful and well-complimented by the fresh spinach with which it was prepared. My wife's fillet was excellently seared and seasoned, the roasted potatoes were crisped on the edges to an amazing level and not at all greasy. The sweet peppers were roasted to the point of yielding their most exquisite flavor. I would be remiss if Ididn't also note that the house red wine, a Tuscan Sangiovese, complimented the meal ideally. Finally, the scalloped veal in tomato sauce was tender, perfectly seasoned and served piping hot (even though we were on the patio on a chilly night).
Be sure to get ahead of the tours which book big blocks of tables as we noted a marked dip in the service level when they began to arrive. Nonetheless, and in light of the outstanding kitchen work, this one is a winner in Siena !
