Ristorante La Gattabuia in Matera, Italy was a great find and a pleasant surprise. A beautiful setting with the traditional stone work and arches of the region and well placed lighting made for pleasant ambiance. All the food was very enjoyable… with all of the flavors melding nicely together and the sauces being very well balanced. All the pasta was perfectly cooked and one of the dishes was clearly made by hand. Even dessert was an experience. If I were to return to Matera, I would go here and I would highly recommend to everyone in the area. Truly excellent.

We had the most delicious meal here! We shared the foam beans and chickory for entree. We were given a smaller bowl each and it was more of a creamy purée than foam but really great with the raw crunchy chickory. My husband had the cod which he enjoyed, but I chose the risotto which was out of this world! On the top were multiple rings of red, white and green consisting of Parmesan cream, olives and capers and also small pieces of anchovies. Yum!

We had a wine and food tasting here. Peter looked after us. It was fantastic and Peter really knows his stuff. The wines were great and the food outstanding. We stayed to have some more we enjoyed it so much. One of the best experiences we’ve had in a long time.

Cool spot that is a wine bar and restaurant. I wanted to love it, but didn’t love the food. The wine was amazing, the service was great, and the food was beautiful but my steak was overcooked, the lamb dish was almost too rich and was a little surprised that the risotto with shrimp was prepared with the shrimp left raw on top.

Very cozy restaurant in Matera. The vibes are very Michelin starred restaurant without the hefty price tag. Food was very sophisticated and tasty. Wine selection is broad. Highly recommended

I don’t mind paying a higher price for an unforgettable experience. Sadly, this wasn’t the case here. I mean the food was acceptable but nothing special. The raw seafood starter was good but that doesn’t really require any cooking skills. I liked pasta with white meat ragout but the seafood pasta was unimaginative and boring. The service was appropriate but not particularly friendly. We kinda had a feeling that we are not really welcome. The whole atmosphere is cold and unwelcoming. A shame.

This is fine dining at its best. The Chef is obviously very passionate with combining food. It was a taste explosion, all of it including the house Chardonnay. We had the beetroot baked to share and out came a chef taste of amazing red cabbage with fruit but I’m not doing it justice explaining. We then shared the amazing pea / oyster/ zucchini risotto and finished with a beautiful desert. The waiting staff were just amazing and so accomodating. What a wonderful experience and great finish to this beautiful town, Matera 😍 We can hand on heart truly recommend this restaurant as a top destination
