We had an incredible dining experience at Oniga! The food was absolutely amazing — the mussels and seafood pasta were some of the best we’ve ever had. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the staff truly go above and beyond to make you feel at home. They even offered us several wine tastings to help us find the perfect one to pair with our meal. A genuinely thoughtful and memorable experience. Highly recommend!

Excellent spot for lunch set around a picturesque square. Food quality was great. Seafood pasta was amazing. Turbot could have done with a bit more seasoning but ingredients are fresh and top quality. Service was great throughout. Excellent coffee as well!

Google
Superb food at more than decent prices. Everything we ordered was really good, but the liver, the home-made lasagna were superb, while the perfectly balanced and rather huge seafood spaghetti portion was a steal at 30 euros. Tiramisu was also excellent. Thank your for a wondertful time. They also had some special dishes as it was The Easter Sunday.

Google
Fabulous food and service period. Had the lasagna, made that morning. Very creaming smooth with outstanding taste. Not heavy, like American lasagna not any of the carb overload resulting in sleepiness. The pizza had a medium crust that was light and airy with a mild sauce and tart toppings. Everything very fresh with all four of us at the table saying that was the best that we had in Venice. An extra thanks for opening at 11:30 for our group. Across the plaza from the da Vinci exhibit.

Google
Very nice and quite restaurant. It’s near the zone around the church “Santa Maria della Salute”. The personal is joyful and attentive. They helped us to chose a really good dishes with shrimps and delicious pasta. Also, they have delicious beer in bottle and after lunch they give you a free shot of “limoncello” to help the digestive work. Very recommended place to enjoy Venezia and have a tasteful lunch or dinner!

Really loved this meal! We had the Bucintoro seafood, this was amazing with loads of fresh seafood with a delicious tomato sauce. They came to add spaghetti to the meal which was so tasty and flavourful! We also had fegato, which was very good and as we are big fans of the dish we loved this one!! We also thought the tiramisu was delicious ! 🤩 The soft shell crab with tempura rocket, which was a special of the day, was one of my favourites! I will definitiely be back here when I am next in venice! The service was also great and friendly! Thank you for being so kind and helpful :)

The food and staff here are amazing and so so kind! This restaurant was a lovely warm welcome to Venice especially because I was by myself. I will absolutely come back again!

We’ve run into this restaurant by chance and decided to try it based on the reviews. We were seated inside. The interier has “local-small-family-restaurant” vibe. Food was perfect. Best lasagna I’ve ever had. Excellent Ravioli and the panna cotta 😍 Great local wines. And the staff! Such lovely people. Lady calling us “darling” 🥰 But even the guys were super nice and polite. They had great recommendations but no pushing. Very good english, no problem communicating.

Yelp
We had two dinners here and loved it! The seafoods and pastas were fantastic in very comfortable rooms and warm staff. Nice place for a party.

Yelp
Food - mixed, some great dishes, some mediocre dishes, decent wine list Service - great Ambiance- great, especially if you can sit outdoors

Yelp
"I would definitely come back here, if only for the staff." To quote my girlfriend. On a fine square in Venice nearby to a museum featuring DaVinci engineering, they offer indoor and outdoor seating, as well as free Wi-Fi (w/password). We escaped the heat tonight and the air was beautiful, although I cannot credit the restaurant for the weather! The food is incredible too. Restaurant recommended by the Hilton Stuckey concierge. Thank you to her! Monkfish with Julienne vegetables and gnocci with spider crab were our dishes. Both are 100% perfectly executed. Now we are on a Monday when it is slow in town so maybe a better meal than during a busy Friday night. Appetizer of scallops was also fantastic. But it is the service which was shining above all. Anna and Silvio were our servers and their recommendations and dispositions truly caused us to have the best experience so far for the trip. Gracie!

Yelp
It is a local quaint restaurant recommended by our bed and breakfast. It was a great meal. I had spaghetti and clams, my daughters had pesto and shrimp and the other cuttlefish and black ink pasta. We had the calamari. The pasta dishes were delicious. The calamari was a little too much breading and light on the calamari for us. We were not offered fresh cheese for the pasta and the Greca salad we ordered was never provided otherwise we would have given a higher rating. The bottle of local rose' wine was delicious. I would go back if in the area.

Yelp
Food is very good: I even came back because of that but I'd made a reservation and was told I couldn't have a table inside on a chilly evening: BAD FORM. There are plenty of other equally good or better places to eat in Venice that have good customer service. Go to those places instead.

Yelp
When I arrived at this spot all outdoor seating was taken , so I sat inside. The interior is very cosy, and I can imagine even more during autumn and winter. The waiter was very forthcoming and gave good advice. I tried the sardines with white polenta as starter. I liked it every bite especially the fluffy white polenta. As I had fish the last couple of days I went for the beef filet with mixed vegetables. You could taste that the meat was first class and the vegetables were cooked on spot meaning not to raw and not to mushy. Accompanied with a quarter of rosé, I enjoyed every bite of this meal. Be aware that if you are in a hurry, you should avoid this place. There is a paper on the window telling everyone that they are part of the Slow Food movement. Anyway a spot I would definitely revisit.

Yelp
Note: as of 9/15/2017 the address in Yelp is incorrect and will send you 15 minutes in the wrong direction. The address is Dorsodura 2852, not 2052. The actually location is on Campo San Barnaba. If you go to the website the map and address are correct. Now that the adminstrative details are done let's talk about the meal we had there. Although it was a cool and windy day we elected to sit at one of the tables on the square. Lots of fun people watching. We started with two antipasti that we shared, a caprese salad with burrata, and a seafood sampler. The caprese was the best we've ever eaten due to the amazing burrata. If you don't know, burrata is like an immature mozzarella where the center is soft and, in this case, liquid. The flavor and consistency of the cheese have ruined is for ordinary caprese salad. Rich smooth and creamy. The seafood sampler was also delicious, but not for those who might not like tentacles. There was calamari in squid ink (black gelatinous and slightly metallic tasting); sardines in sour sauce and onions; a calamari salad with tentacles, potatoes, and salad verbless in oil and vinegar (yum); a part-like preparation that was fish mixed with some binder (possibly potatoes) that was great alone or sheared on bread; a whole octopus (small) that was possible smoked a little; and a nice polenta that was particularly good with the squid ink. We followed up with gnocchi pomodoro with mozzarella. The gnocchi were a bit dense and the sauce under seasoned. A little additional salt greatly improved it. We finished off with a slice of torte with chocolate layers and a pistachio cream filling topped with chocolate ganache, accompanied by the obligatory cappuccino. With wine and sparkling water the total was less than 80 Euros. Not cheap, but not excessive for Venice. The service was friendly, but they think they understand English better than they actually do, which led to some delays and confusion, but all worked out in the eating.

Yelp
My wife and I had two lunches here, both excellent, clean, fresh and tasty. Loved the salads, the mussels and clams and dessert.

Yelp
We enjoyed our first meal here so much we came back the next night because we had to try the house specialty - a giant pot of seafood and pasta, which did not disappoint and at 33€ per person was a total bargain. This place has what is probably the best fried calamari I've ever had. I did not love the squid ink pasta I had the first night (a bit too heavy on the ink in the sauce for my taste) but my tuna was yummy. Both nights we were a group of 6, so we were able to make a reservation.

Yelp
Very nice place for a homey meal in a quieter part of Venice. The room is small, cozy and quaint--we were lucky to get a table at 8pm, I think because it was an unexpectedly cold and rainy evening, keeping more people inside. Menu has a nice selection of Venetian classics and a few interesting options I haven't seen so often. We weren't ravenously hungry, so we shared a mixed seafood antipasti to start. This was very, very good--the octopus especially, which was perfectly tender, and the seppia in ink were the standouts. I had the black spaghetti with octopus, tomato and olives, which was a pretty generous portion and had a lovely, almost sweet, tomato-flavor to it. My sweetie had the Vitello Tonnato (which the waitress had to make sure he'd be ok with since it is served cold) and that was delicious, too. We shared a nice caramel creme for dessert and enjoyed lingering here for a while. Service was pleasant, not rushed and friendly. In fact our waiter apologized profusely after accidentally knocking over a (nearly empty) wine glass near the end of the meal, and replaced our almost gone bottle with a nearly full one to make up for it! I would definitely recommend travelers check Oniga out.

Yelp
The ambiance and location are nice. The restaurant is filled entirely with Americans. The food is "okay." I wouldn't go back.

Yelp
Great food and atmosphere! Authentic Italian cuisine. The Calamari appetizer was the best I've ever eaten. The fried arugula mixed in with the calamari gave it a nutty flavor with s crunch. Delicious!! The Gnocchi was my main course and it was so tender but Firm. Also delicious!!

Yelp
Dinner at Ristoteca Oniga was okay, but it wasn't anything wonderful. We had to wait about five minutes for an open table. One of the servers working who told me the wait would be about five minutes was either overwhelmed or rude (or both?) as she came off quite curt and unwelcoming when we entered the restaurant. Once we finally sat down, we waited a while for a server to approach us. Johnny Depp's twin eventually was our server, and he was fairly friendly. Our calamari appetizer with fried calamari and fried spinach straws was delicious! The fish tasted fresh, and the batter was perfect. I ate the spaghetti con seppie in nero for my meal because I knew I had to try it at some point during my 10 days in Italy. Honestly, it wasn't that great. The pasta itself was cooked perfectly, but the black sauce simply had a mild and almost bland fish flavor. I found the dish pretty boring. What was not boring for my husband was the amusement of watching me eat and getting black sauce stuck on my lips and teeth. My husband did not particularly enjoy his steak dish and indicated that it was not a good quality cut of steak from the get-go. His steamed veggies as the side dish were lovely, though. This restaurant was full of locals, so it was nice that we weren't eating at a tourist trap. All in all, Ristoteca Oniga had goods and bads. We are still raving about our meals in Venice at Impronta Cafe and Enoteca ai Artisti. Put those on your to-eat list instead of Ristoteca Oniga.

Yelp
This place was recommended by our concierge. Waitress was lovely. Sparkling water was the best part of our meal; followed by the house Pinot noir. Now for the starters: mussels and clams with very pedestrian red sauce. Cod w/ polenta had no flavor. We decided to leave rather than go further into this experience.

Yelp
Recommended by a local, this was our favorite meal this time in Italy! Oniga is a super cute and cozy restaurant hidden away in the maze of Venice. Inside were many other Italians so that was a good sign immediately. The bufala caprese salad was fantastic with a little spoon of fresh pesto that was divine. Next we had pasta dishes. The gnocchi was big and the texture fluffy and magical. The spaghetti con le vongole had more clams than pasta in a brilliant butter sauce!!! All of this woven together with house prosecco that was light and perfect. We are still dreaming of this meal and definitely recommend this place as an escape from the busy tourism madness of Venice!

Yelp
Great option for dinner without reservations. We walked in after 9pm and got to choose a secluded seat by the window. There was a dinner special for 2 people that included a humongous bowl of mixed shellfish. It's really a generous amount! They throw in a mound of spaghetti halfway through your meal to soak up the sauce, and finish everything off with dessert wine and cookies. It was one of our more affordable meals in Venice, and one of the most filling too! Our waitress was prompt and courteous, and even gave us a free sampling of chamomile grappa, which we inquired about after seeing another large party with it. Overall, a generally pleasant experience that didn't break the bank!

Yelp
After finding all Venetian restaurants far from the tourist-y area to be happiness-inducing, Oniga was pretty disappointing. Yelpers had given raving reviews, so we sat down and ordered the house red, the Swordfish Carbonara, and the Squid Spaghetti with Octopus Ink. The red was remarkably spicy and unfortunately flat in taste, the Squid Spaghetti briney and lacking in flavor, and the Carbonara basically flavorless but for the small bits of Swordfish scattered about. which were actually quite tasty and reminiscent of ham. Both dishes needed a boost (no more salt, please!), BUT their one redeeming aspect was the texture of the pasta. They're open late at night in a square with plenty of outside seating, and they are right across from a Grom Gelato housing some pretty stellar pistachio and coffee flavors. Otherwise, for being the same price as nearby restaurants that bowled us over in deliciousness, this was terribly disappointing.

Yelp
Really good Venetian food, we really like it. My wife and I ordered the two person meal.l combo seafood dish, it was so delicious with lots of clam, muzzle, shrimp and squid in it, the sauce was awesome!

Yelp
We were recommended this restaurant by a family friend as a must go to dinner spot in Venice. We were so glad for the recommendation. The ambiance was relaxed and peaceful and the food was out of this world. We started off with and order of calamari, and mussels and clams. We suggest to get the order of mussels and clams for 1 person because it was plenty for both of us to share. The calamari was lightly battered and super tender. For our pasta dish, we shared the squid ink pasta with octopus and it had to be my favorite pasta dish of our time in Italy. This is a must go spot for great Venetian seafood.

Yelp
Very good. The black squid in spaghetti was the best we had in Venice, and we loved how the fried calamari came with fried greens - a very nice touch. The staff was helpful and squeezed us in. We regret not ordering their specialty - a large "pot" of seafood for the entire table. Another table ordered it and it looked phenomenal. I would suggest getting reservations or getting there early right when they open - they do get busy and fill up.

Yelp
Beatiful hidden place, lovely food and excellent ambient. Reasonable price and a lot of orgánica food!

Yelp
From calamari to octopus salad to a variety of fresh fish, the seafood at Ristoteca Oniga is wonderfully prepared and plated. The pasta is solid. Their standard selection is nothing to get excited about, but the execution will leave you with little to be desired. The wine list is extensive and the friendly wait staff is more than happy to help you choose dishes. Toss that in with the beautiful setting of Campo san Barnaba and this makes for one of the better dinner locations in Venice.

Yelp
Delicious, cute small place with authentic look! Inside and patio dining. Food prepared perfect, interesting appetizers and bread was fantastic. Shrimp scampi in red sauce was delicious. House wine is perfect.

Rebecca C.

Yelp
Very rude service - they told us we couldn't sit outside because they had reservations - we ate and left and the table was open the entire time. Also at the end of the meal they told us they couldn't take a credit card and my husband had to walk to the ATM. Food was good but I not would. It suggest this place.

Andy K.

Yelp
Most under-seasoned tasteless piece of branzino ever. Clams and mussels were very gritty and not cleaned properly. Steamed vegetables were over cooked and under seasoned. House wine is horrid. The restaurant space is nice and atmosphere is decent, hence the two stars. Worst meal in Venice hands down. Don't trust the four star rating they have scammed their way into.

Yelp
Had a wonderful dinner here tonight. Our tour guide from Walks Inside Venice Roberta recommend this for dinner. The Sarde in saor was good, and the melon with prosciutto was great. I had the special which was spaghetti with pesto and scallops. A very nice dinner and our service was first rate. Would highly recommend this if you are near Campo S. Barnaba.

Yelp
Recommended by the star staff over a mile away. When I got lost and asked cops for directions their eyes lit up at the name of the place. It's nested in a very touristy plaza, but it's amazingly legit. Service, food, wine all amazing.

Yelp
My husband and I really enjoyed our late night dinner here. We walked in at 10 and got to order just before the kitchen closed at 10:30 pm. Food was tasty and I wish we'd had more time to peruse the menu and order more. Great inexpensive house wine and the friendly server recommended the local digestif, Grappa, which was a fun ending to a lively dinner experience. It's a cozy, romantic atmosphere that still maintains a casual vibe. We especially loved that there was a cute dog sleeping on his bed near the entry and the friendly staff would just step around him as they went about their jobs - added to the homey laid back vibe. Venice can be hard for restaurants since many cater to tourists with low quality while the good ones are hard to get a table and expensive. Oniga balances everything well and feels like a neighborhood staple - maybe the wine and grappa influenced our warm and fuzzy feeling here, but it was one of the restaurant highlights of our trip.

Yelp
Excellent food. Try the Ricotta dessert, you will want seconds. Be sure to make reservations as this place is always packed. Good wine list.

Yelp
Spaghetti with clams, I can die now. Enough said.

Yelp
You may want to go there and meet many english speaking folks. It's no wonder at this place and location. Food is okay, for italian standards I'd say average as the price ratio. However, stuff and waiters are very friendly and prompt in their service.

Lisa S.

Yelp
If you are in the Dosoduro and like wine and seafood find Osteria Oniga in Campo San Banaga. The tuna tartare and fried little shrimp with polenta were excellent. There is a good wine list and sitting at a table on the campo,in the twilight was a delightful way to dine. Our waitress spoke English (we speak very little Italian) and we had good service.

Jonathan H.

Yelp
We only ate here for drinks and dessert, but it was very enjoyable. Oniga was very busy each night we would walk by on our strolls through Campo San Barnaba in the Dorsoduro area of Venice. We really enjoyed this area of Venice as it was more local feeling with fewer tourists (like us!). The staff were very friendly, and the Tiramisu and Creme Caramel were excellent. There are many choices for meals in Venice; choose to go to where the locals go and get away from the touristy areas.
