Well worth the effort of getting here. A relatively new owner (three years, from Venice ;-) who has created an authentic experience both in terms of local food and well appointed “cave interiors”. Good and fair value.

Stunningly beautiful cistern cave with many rooms, amazing finishes and a great wine cellar. Wonderfully friendly and helpful staff. Hugo spritz tasted of simple syrup, not sambuco at all. Mushroom flan was rich and flavorful, but could have used a texture or other accenting garnish - it was lost in itself too much. Chickpea fritters were unpleasantly moist inside with a forgettable sauce - skip these. Meat rolls with sausage stuffing were fantastic, as was the peperonata. Cold baccala with cruschi was an interesting and mostly successful blend of color, flavor, and texture. Would definitely return to try more!

We enjoyed the food so much we went again the next day. Not typical Italian menu. Excellent sausage pasta, breadballs in tomato sugo, interesting and fresh salads, best pear and ricotta cake. Greco DOC white wine superb. Staff friendly and helpful. Highly recommend *****

Had an awesome dinner here. Fantastic food - a mix of great local produce with a non-pretentious modern twist. Ambience was brilliant, and the layout of the repurposed water tanks that you eat in really encourage conversation like no other restaurant I've experienced. It was pricy, but was a really unique experience that felt worth the money as a one-off treat.

We ate in this beautiful restaurant two nights in a row in February 2025. Lovely food (the chef just won a national cooking competition) with great service from nice staff and good wines & other drinks. The interior is very stylish and location in the lovely old town.

Enoteca dai Tosi is the perfect wine bar if you want to explore Basilicata’s bottles in a relaxed setting. Located just off the main drag, it’s a cozy space with exposed brick, shelves of local wines, and knowledgeable staff. We tried a guided tasting of three Aglianicos paired with local cheese and olives. Everything was delicious, and the server explained each wine in English with clear passion. It’s not pretentious at all – just good wine and good people. Prices were great (€5–€8 per glass), and it’s a perfect stop after a long day of walking the Sassi.

Beautiful spot with a subterranean patio, great shade for the heat of the day, and deeper “forum style” seating area underground. My wife is Celiac Gluten Free and not only did the server know what she meant, but changed a dish so she could enjoy it. Food was exceptionally fresh with exquisite presentation. The staff was attentive and the owner provided apertivo without request. A gem of Matera.

Very pleasant place for a nice meal with friendly service.
