River Lodge Paso (Paso Robles, California) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The old ranch town of Paso Robles, once a nondescript exit off Highway 101 on the trip between San Francisco and Los Angeles, has emerged as an up-and-coming wine country destination with hotels and restaurants to match. One of the standouts, River Lodge, is equally well suited for a leisurely stay as it is a short stopover — visible from the freeway, it was originally a 1940s-era motor lodge. The mid-century modern design has been smartly preserved, from the retro façade to the postcard-like pool surrounded by potted greenery and sunbeds. But guest rooms were thoroughly upgraded with bespoke furnishings, stylish work spaces, and private porches or yards, some with Bolivian hammocks or firepits. Complimentary Linus bikes and a poolside cocktail bar add to the appeal." - Tablet Hotels

We stayed in this cool single story retro motel for a few nights before Christmas and had practically the entire place to ourselves. The rooms are funky chic and sweet assistant manager Michael upgraded us to a king room with a fireplace. The pool area was quiet as you’d imagine it would be in mid December but we didn’t mind! We had the jacuzzi all to ourselves and I even made my husband do a cold plunge in the chilly pool. (The pool scene is pumping in the summer so if you like a quiet atmosphere like I do, be aware that the rooms are nearby the pool/restaurant). I hadn’t realized the River Lodge is close to the 101 but thankfully, the freeway noise couldn’t be heard once inside our room. All in all, a fun & cute place to stay! Sister property in DT Paso looks cute, too. The clever hotelier is definitely onto something!

We were excited to try River Lodge after a few fun visits to Skyview Los Alamos and we were not disappointed. The rooms are very comfy with fun and cozy details. The hammocks and small yards out front of each room are a great touch. The pool is incredible - huge, clean, super comfy and clean lounge chairs, and a lovely firepit and hot tub. It's very close to the highway but the noise never bothered me. It was easy to get to all the places we wanted to go, both downtown and wine tasting. Bonus - the soap smells amazing and it was for sale in the lobby with some other fun items.

I loved this motel! The pool area is 18+ and was beautiful with floaties to borrow and the bar tender walking around taking orders. The rooms were clean and beautiful with a bunch of great small touches - the soaps provided were local and had the most incredible scent, I’m not a big fan of scented soaps but these were just fantastic. We had a room with a patio and fire pit which was wonderful to sit by in the evenings. Highly recommend and plan to go back.

We recently stayed at the River Lodge for a trip to Paso Robles. What a lovely little gem! It felt like stepping into California Americana. It is a quick drive/rideshare away from Tin City and the downtown area with restaurants, bars, shops and tasting rooms. The free parking was also a huge added bonus. The room was spacious enough for us to be comfortable and they made great use of the space. The property itself is exceptionally well maintained. The rooms, the grounds, the pool...everything. They take a lot of care in making this place look fantastic. Since this place is pet-friendly and (and there were many dogs here during our stay), this is especially remarkable. The staff were all helpful, courteous and welcoming. We would definitely look to book a room here first when making our way back to Paso.

Just got back from the River Lodge, and I am missing it already. Here is an honest review while memory is still fresh. I want this motel to improve so it can serve many more traveler in the future because it is a gem! Let's polish these things first (for Room 13)- flatten out the curl for the area rub beneath the bed, it made me trip many times. The area rug beneath the sofa and coffee table needs to be affix to the floor, I slipped and fell back on to the couch thankfully as I got up. The antique rattan cabinet and armoire are both beautiful, but the hinges needs to be oiled because it creaks. The magnets to close the cabinet doors are surprisingly power and as if I slammed them when I close it. The shower stall's blue tile needs a bit of clean to rid of the soap scum accumulation at the bottom. With the water turned on, the soap scum looks like black mud but it is soap scum. That's all! We stayed at one of their sister property previously-- the Skyview in Los Alamos-- and fell in love with Nomada Hotel Group's Mid-Century Modern "Central Coast California" style. When picking our lodging in Paso Robles, it was easy to pick this property. They also have the Farmhouse closer to Paso Robles Downtown, but I picked this for its location, the iconic motel sign, and the property's layout. We stayed at Room 13, which is the elbow at this V-shape motel. Inside, it has a bedroom separated by a sliding door, to the living room area with a sofa bed, TV, fridge, bar cabinet, and another sliding door to the bathroom. The sound-proofing was very good. We didn't hear people talking outside (or dog barking) until we opened a small window gap. Maybe it was off-season, right after Christmas, but the guest parking lot was full one night. Both bedroom and living room has a fireplace. The temperature was in the 40s at night and 50s in daytime, this is right after a series of powerful storms, the indoor fireplaces really warmed up the room. There is also a ceiling mount heater/AC, and we were plenty warm inside setting it on 72 degree. The bed, pillow, and the blankets were all very very comfortable. My wife and I slept well! Cute nightstand lamps with USB chargers on both sides of the bed with adjustable brightness, in fact, all light fixtures' brightness can be adjusted. There is also a cute/artsy Lexon WIFI speaker/FM radio which I want to buy. Two large screen TV has all the popular streaming apps available with plenty of channels to watch if you just want to stay in and chill. Remember to remove your account from these streaming apps before you leave, many previous guests left their profile in their all linked to a credit card! I removed them one by one, you're welcome! For the Deluxe Suite, there is also a little backyard with outdoor shower and fireplace. It was too cold to shower outside in December, and due to the rain, the chairs and the ground were pretty soggy so we didn't use the fireplace either. Next time! The staffs- all very very very polite! The motel's restaurant unfortunately was on pause for the holidays, which we were notified days before, again, next time. But it wasn't hard to find dining here in Paso Robles. The location is great because there is a huge shopping plaza next door with Target, Starbucks, Michaels, Ross, etc. I forgot to bring some toiletry items, so we just walked to Target to buy. The parking is great! Plenty of space, safe, and the iconic motel sign kept the parking lot lit with red hue! This is a dog friendly motel, and we saw plenty. Kids too! Every "tech" in our room worked. WIFI (I didn't test the speed) but it was enough to stream movies. In conclusion, highly recommended and I will return, if no rooms are available, I will stay at the Farmhouse.

Google
Love the concept of making a motel chic, and it’s really well executed! We visited in September (2025), and stayed in the “Bar Suite,” which used to be the lobby and had a great fireplace. The pool experience was a highlight and was, in many ways, superior to the Ritz-Carlton we’d stayed in right before coming here: the design and materials were really beautiful and upscale (especially the furniture), and the food & drinks came from the main restaurant and were fantastic. Service was great for the price and star-level; it’s no-frills (it’s still a motel, after all), but everyone we dealt with was friendly and enthusiastic. Restaurant on site is genuinely excellent, but doesn’t serve breakfast (or didn’t, when we stayed). I gave the location 3 stars solely out of a scrupulous regard for accuracy: it’s not a walkable area, nor is it even a neighborhood in any sense of the word, but it’s a perfectly reasonable and convenient location given that it’s a motel, which is inherently car-oriented. It’s a very short drive to everything in town; and let’s face it: if you’re coming to Paso Robles, you’re coming by car. I’m obsessed with the big neon sign. Honestly the whole thing makes the Italian-themed Hilton property next door look tacky and passé by comparison. Can’t wait to stay in one of their other motel properties!

Google
The River Lodge in Paso Robles is a true find - a gem of comfort, accommodation, and a lovely, very dog-friendly welcoming atmosphere pervades. My husband and I and our dog Polly were so happy to find it and we were so comfortable. The restaurant is very nice with great food and service. We're going back for the Thanksgiving weekend - to enjoy a day trip to Cambria and other events around Paso.

Google
It says motel, but it’s really nice, they have fire pits and a jacuzzi that is set to a nice temperature. Love their floties that they have in the pool. We love wine tasting in Tin City so this the perfect match for us. Will definitely be back

Yelp
The Mrs. and I spent one night at the River Lodge this week. Lodging options have gotten pretty luxurious in Paso Robles over the last 20 or so years. The River Lodge sits in a good location. It's very close to the wineries on the west side of the 101 and about one exit down from Spring Street which is the Paso Robles's main road. It is across the street from a small shopping mall with a Target and a few other shops and restaurants. We arrived on Monday afternoon around 3. Pre-check in was done via email short of assigning a room. We then made our way to the lobby and were greeted by Hope. She quickly finished checking us in and assigned us room 21. Room 21 is a large room with a king bed. The decor is minimal but eclectic and comfortable. The bathroom was pretty big. There is a walk-in shower with a small bench built into the wall. There is a separate vanity space with a large mirror and counter. A large closet the houses a small refrigerator. The bed was probably the most comfortable motel bed I've ever slept on. The pillows were large and plentiful. The linens were soft and luxurious. Each room has its own front porch with two chairs and a hammock and a small fenced in yard. There is a pool, which is heated, and a jacuzzi. The pool area houses the restaurant and bar called Ciao Papi. We had a few drinks at the bar and they were good. Ciao Papi is entirely outdoors so you are at the mercy of the elements when you dine. It was about 53 degrees Monday night so the restaurant wasn't busy at all. I only have a few minor negative comments. The first one is we ordered a pizza through room service. It was delivered with no plates or napkins. None are provided in the room. We ended up eating our pizza on some napkins that were in my wife's purse. The second was the bathmat is on a towel bar inside the shower and washcloths aren't hanging in the shower area they are on the vanity. When I realized this I had to get out of the shower and retrieve one. The floor is made of tile and can get pretty slippery. The water pressure in the shower was weak but that is to be expected in older buildings but it seemed to me that the shower head was smaller than the space it occupied. The staff we encountered were very friendly. All of them on the younger side and all very eclectic which added to the charm of the River Lodge. They all seemed to genuinely care about providing a great guest experience.

Yelp
Love this place. The room was great and the pool was amazing with the bar and cafe! We hiked in the morning and spent the rest of the day by the pool. Service was perfect. Then, every evening we would enjoy a great meal in downtown Paso Robles.

Yelp
Recently opened and stayed for 3 nights. The renovation is great and has good vibes. The rooms are cozy and well designed. The towels are big and plush and so nice. Soap and lotion all smell relaxing and spa like. The pool area is beautiful and has very comfortable lounge chairs/beds. There's a decent size spa and two fire pits on the property. They have bikes you can check out and ride the area. Very cool and fun perk. The bar and restaurant staff are great and the drinks are good. They have a breakfast layout in the morning. Croissants, yogurt, fruit and coffee. The coffee was not super strong and I wish they switched up the baked goods but good. Biggest issue is finding the lobby. It's in the middle of the property with no signage. With all being said, loved the property and staff and had a great stay.

Yelp
What a wonderful retro style motel. Hip vibe with the most dog friendly place I've been. Staff was so helpful and friendly. Pool/ bar scene is so fun and relaxing with dogs allowed at the pool. Each room has its own little yard and hammock. My wife and I will be coming back many times and finally found our permanent stay while visiting family and wine tasting here. One of our favorite places we've stayed ever. Love the palm springs desert style vibe the throw at you.

Yelp
Sadly, we never had the opportunity to have dinner or cocktails here. Called two different days to make a reservations. 5 people on Friday afternoon and then 4 more people on Monday. Left messages on their message center to please call me back and confirm. Two days in a row....never got a call back. I guess they don't want our business. This is not a good start. We would have loved to all had a chance to experience this new place. We have heard good things. I am not going to call a third time. I rarely give out one star. Very disappointed.

Yelp
So much character and such a chill vibe. We hung out by the pool a couple afternoons and the staff were super nice, Cristy was our favorite. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Yelp
We stayed here last night and went to a concert at Vina Robles nearby. This hotel just opened recently, and what a beautiful place! Our room was done with impeccable style and taste. It was a generous size, and even included a sitting room area. We had a private patio in the front with a hammock AND a private fenced in patio in the back, with a fire pit and seating. We also had dinner and drinks at Ciao Papi, the restaurant, which was convenient and delicious.

Yelp
We were very happy with our current stay at the River Lodge Motel. The rooms were great, beds were super comfy. We went to the pool everyday, terrific service every time we went. Food and drinks were excellent. Very pet friendly, even to our extra large pit bull! We will definitely be back!

Yelp
Wife and I stayed here when we saw Lord Huron in Paso Robles.. This place has an awesome vibe. Loved the entire look and feel, loved the room, really nice pool/bar scene, the staff were super accommodating AND there's a great restaurant alfresco called Ciao Papi. Five stars well deserved. We'll be staying here again for sure.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I stopped in to check out the pool side bar. Ben was are bartender and he made us delicious drinks. We will have to go back again and try the food. The plates we saw coming out look good. Ben's cocktails will have us coming back for sure.

Yelp
I highly recommend this Motel. Such a great new place in Paso Robles. A lovely well renovated run down motel rose up from the ashes like a gorgeous Phoenix! And those of us lucky enough to have been the first 500 people to stay at newly renovated motel is just amazing! Hammocks at the doors, kitchy, 1960s vibe, plush towels, excited and helpful staff! Beautiful views and classy cocktails and food options including free breakfast!

Yelp
Service was amazing. The room was super cute, the pool was really cool. The whole energy was laid back but also high end at the same time. I'm so impressed and I will absolutely be going back.
