NYC Bagel Delivery and Coronavirus: 18 Shops Still Open - Eater NY

"Furnishing bagels, bialys, and muffin to its far north Bronx nabe, Riverdale Bagels has been around since 1992. It guarantees its bagels are boiled and not steamed. All the traditional toppings are available, but newfangled stuff also represented, such as garlic pepper and sundried tomato cream cheese. For lunch, there are also hot dogs, Philly cheesesteaks, and something called the bagelino burger. Takeout only." - Carla Vianna, Eater Staff

Google
The bagels are on point but the customer service was a complete miss. We came in 40min before they closed. We were patient as one person ahead of us completed their order. It took another 10min to be acknowledged and when we asked for additions to our bagel were told the grill was turned off. I’ve worked in food service. To have the grill off ten minutes before close is reasonable but 40min?! It was clear they didn’t want to service us. Despite the hype, I would avoid this spot.

Google
Among the best in the 5 boroughs (the only Bronx bagelry ranked on Eater's 22 Best Bagel Joints in NYC. See photo.) The bagels are crisp on the outside, chewy inside and big. Spreads are appropriately generous making a perfect meal which I partake in almost any time of the day! It is a small store, no seating, no frills. Just great bagels and spreads and a few other items like Bev's, cookies and chips to go. Also, ample free parking in shopping center across the street.

Explain to me how I spend $7.75, order a platter for two eggs, cheese and potatoes, no meat and they Workers Tell Me NO TOAST! REALLY. NEVER AGAIN! and the Potatoes were GREASY! UGH.

Google
Great nook for all your bagel cravings! Great quality of in-house made bagels--toasted or not, makes an amazing compliment of flavors of cream cheese (spicy red cherry peppers are my fav!!). Their breaky sandwiches are great, as well! Small nook that delivers a powerful punch!! Highly recommend this place!

Google
I've been shopping at Riverdale Bagels for many years now. They have the best bagels and spreads, but they also have so much more. From different kinds of breakfast and lunch options. Including the very best muffins and pastries. The staff is ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC.

Google
I do not recommend buying food in this place. I found a hair in the sandwich... Place is dirty and small!

Google
I entered the bagel shop around 15 minutes before 1pm, but the service I received was like they were already preparing to close. The service was very unwelcoming, and it felt like the staff member didn't want to serve me. He was unhelpful and not pleasant at all. It was quite shameful that he acted like this towards me, but when others entered the shop, he became very pleasant towards them. I had just moved into the area and was so excited to try out the local bagel shop, but my experience was utterly uncomfortable and a huge disappointment.

Yelp
Loved this place! I was hungry and was in the area. I was on the search for good French toast, and I found some! I would highly recommend their French toast! It was fresh, delicious and hot. I also ordered orange juice. And the French toast came with syrup, too. It was exactly what I was looking for. I'll definitely order from here again.

Yelp
The good: I came from California and visited my brother and of course wanted to try authentic New York bagels. He recommended this spot and it was delicious. The bagels were good but it was the schmear (cream cheeses) that I loved the most. The options are plentiful and the presentation looks like ice cream. In fact, the blueberry cream cheese was very milk/vanilla-esque and tasted a lot like blueberry ice cream. It was decadent and delicious and was superior to any fruit/sweet cream cheese I've had before. GOAT! The bad: I wanted more excuses to eat the cream cheese. The interesting: I enjoy toasting the bagels at home and then adding the cream cheese. The crunch makes the heavy bagel a lot easier to eat.

Yelp
This place is awesome! My new weekend go to. Bagels are delicious and fresh. I love the many cream cheese flavors that they offer. Easy parking. What I love most though, was that the staff is super nice! Highly recommend.

Yelp
0 stars. Terrible customer service, tiny cramped space and the bagels are dog food. You're better off going across the street to Gruenebaums or heck even Dunkin is better than this place.

Andrew C.

Yelp
Best bagels in Riverdale, decent size and perfectly soft and chewy with a good crust unlike the other two in the area. Only bagel store where you can get a bacon egg and cheese or a sandwich as well. Also have a great selection of Cream cheese.

Yelp

Wendy D.

Yelp
Delicious bagel will recommend to anyone. That is my go to place on the weekends for my family.

Yelp
Unfortunately I just walked up to this shop for the first time since the pandemic began and they are not even attempting to follow any of the Covid-19 safety guidelines. SO MANY customers were crammed into their tiny space, there was no way to even approximate keeping a good distance from each other. I won't be back until after I manage to get vaccinated, if then. Stay away.

Yelp
This place is the best bagels in NY. Friendly staff, INCREDIBLE FRESH bagels, classic place been open for 30 years. I really deeply love this place and encourage you to give it a try. My fav is plain bagel toasted with lox spread ;)
google avatar

Sayeeda A.

Yelp
Bagels are fresh, various flavored cream cheese options, the staff is friendly, respectful and gets the orders perfect every time! My favorite breakfast spot in riverdale. I usually get the everything bagel with nova lox or scallion cream cheese with fried eggs. Delicious!

Yelp
Riverdale Bagels has been in the business for Thirty years. consistency is a great value

Ivan R.

Yelp
Great breakfast sandwich and service. The workers were friendly and attentive. The bagels were fresh and tasted really good.

Yelp
Traditional NYC bagel spot filled with a variety of bagels, breakfast entrees, and some deli favorites. I typically frequent Riverdale Bagels because it is conveniently located about 10 minutes from my job. Granted there is a Dunkin Donuts right across the street, I prefer Riverdale Bagels for that authentic NYC bagel taste. My only con - pricing. Riverdale bagels charges a little bit more than i'm used to. For a buttered plain bagel, its almost $2, there is an add'l .50cent charge if you get it toasted. Otherwise, service is prompt and kind. I would definitely recommend to others.

Yelp
They accidentally put ketchup on my bacon egg and cheese and when I gave it back to them they just wiped off the ketchup instead of making a new one. It obviously still had a good amount on it because you can't get it all off when it's mixed in with the egg and bread. For $7.30 I would expect them to take responsibility for their mistake and make me a fresh one. No apology or anything either they just looked mad I was asking them to redo it.

Yelp
Riverdale Bagels make a solid NYC bagel. In a small shop, they also pack a lot of unique flavors, like a spicy bacon cream cheese and hot chili cherry. Do yourself a favor and try both! I also liked that their Pumpernickel bagel was more on the rye side, though that might not be great for everyone.
google avatar

Kerri M.

Yelp
The BEST bagels in a bagel heavy neighborhood plus the absolute friendliest staff. Love this place. Do yourself a favor and try the spicy sundried tomato cream cheese.
google avatar

Kiran M.

Yelp
$5 for a Bacon Egg and Cheese on a roll (not a good one, mostly bread) this place is daylight robbery and just like the pizza place next door, only gets by because of its amazing location. Unless you live close by, never go here.
google avatar

Matthew D.

Yelp
My favorite bagel place in North Riverdale. Lived up there for five+ years and this was my weekend spot. Nice people working there and good bagel sandwiches + coffee.
google avatar

Outrageous S.

Yelp
Didn't try the bagels, walked in at 1:30 on a Sunday and was told the grill was closed. So I left. I'm pretty sure the people that walked in behind me walked out for the same reason. If you're open until 2, be open. This is a bogus business practice. The neon bagel guy sign was cool though.
google avatar

Natalie F.

Yelp
These bagels are some of the best in the Bronx. Loved this spot ever since I was a kid!
google avatar

Julie G.

Yelp
Great choice of bagels as well as a nice assortment of cream cheese flavors. They make a great cup of coffee. Support this local business in Riverdale!
google avatar

Kathryn B.

Yelp
Best bagels and cream cheese! Everything is so yummy and they make it quick. Only downside is that it is a little over priced.
google avatar

Julia M.

Yelp
Hands down, the best bagels I have ever had. Whether you want a quick bagel and cream cheese, or a more substantial sandwich for lunch, this is the place to go. They are quick, precise, and kind, even if you have a difficult order. And their coffee is just right, they even make cappuccino with espresso if you ask for it.
google avatar

Johnny M.

Yelp
Hands down some of the best bagels you could ever ask for in NYC. The shop has been there for 25 years and is always a local favorite for breakfast in the morning. They get your order in and out very fast so if you need something in the morning on your way to work this won't slow you down. Love the staff that works there, always very welcoming and friendly with anyone who comes in!

Joseph C.

Yelp
Delicious bagels and sandwiches. The guys behind the counter are great, very personable and kind. The owner and his wife however are not...
google avatar

Cora B.

Yelp
The bagels were fair but not exceptional. Not a sit down place, gets very crowded on saturday's.
google avatar

Jessaid P.

Yelp
Look, their bagels are great - okay? Yes, they are a bit expensive.... but so is everything else, elsewhere in NY. Yes, their staff isn't the friendliest. But do you need to receive the treatment of a king/queen when you're just doing a quick stop to get your bagels? Don't be such a diva. Bottom line: Grow a thick skin and indulge in awesome bagels.
google avatar

June M.

Yelp
These people are *not* friendly unless you happen to be one of their friends. The man who seems to be the owner (manager?) has a permanent scowl on his face and looks at you like he wishes you hadn't come in the door. The price of the coffee has gone up and is not that great. The blonde woman who works there is also a sourpuss. The bagels are just bagels. Mostly it's the unfriendly people who are such a turn off. Go across the street to the Kosher bakery where the nice Hispanic lady in the bakery always smiles and tells you to "Have a beautiful day". And the lady in the deli at the back is always very nice. So you can't get ham or bacon? So what? It's bad for you anyway. And you can make your own coffee the way you want it. And funny how they don't seem to find it necessary to charge as much for a large coffee as this place.
google avatar

Sea M.

Yelp
Good bagels but a bit expensive. The owner and the rest of the "older" people that work here are perpetually unfriendly. However, the younger hispanic workers are very friendly. I've been here numerous times over the years and never a friendly greeting or a good morning. My common sense tells me to bring my business elsewhere but then some sick part of me wants to go more often to see if my increased business brings about some appreciation. This morning I asked for a sausage, egg and cheese on a bagel at about 1:25 (closing time was 2:00) and they said the grill was shut off. This is not the first time this has happened so it appears they shut the grill down 45 minutes to an hour before closing time. I can understand walking in about 10-15 minutes before closing time, but 35 minutes??? Either you close at a certain time or you don't. So the bagels are good and its walking distance from my house so I know I'll be back. Maybe one of these days I'll get that "Good Morning"!

Yelp
North Riverdale needed a solid bagel option...enter Riverdale Bagels. This place has more spreads than a fashion magazine. And bagels aren't the only thing on the menu; they serve up other breakfast fare like egg and cheese on a roll - and the like. The coffee is great here too. Most importantly - the bagels here, while not perfect, don't disappoint. Everything is fairly priced, and the shop is immaculately clean. The staff is always on point - friendly and efficient, even when the line is out the door (it happens often) And it's a mom n' pop place - so skip the DD across the street and come here. You can even park in that little lot about 3 stores south.

george c.

Yelp
To be honest I think bagel corner is a little better. It's just a little faster. Both good bagels tho.

Matthew M.

Yelp
The bagels are good, but what does it matter when more than half the time you can't get the order right? Constantly have a problem when ordering and they leave something off the bagel.

Stephanie P.

Yelp
The bagels are good, classic New York style bagels. The plain cream cheese is pretty meh and I wouldn't recommend it, but the strawberry cream cheese was great.

S P.

Yelp
Best bagels in Riverdale! Every other bagel store in the neighborhood I need to get the bagel toasted just to eat it.. The bagels here are perfect as is.. slightly hard on the outside and softer on the inside. The cream cheese is also really good and they actually listen when you ask for "not too much" which is a rarity.. I'm a little surprised at all the reviews complaining about the staff. I've always found them to be friendly and accommodating even when it's extremely busy in there.
google avatar

Amber Z.

Yelp
Pretty bad bagels by NY standards. They were too crispy/hard on the outside.

Sarah B.

Yelp
Good local spot. Bagels are fresh and tasty. They get BUSY so it is advisable to know what you want before you get to the front of the line. I'm strange and don't like tons and tons of cream cheese on my bagels. Most places ignore my requests and stick about 3 feet of cream cheese on anything I order. These guys listen they even show me my bagel and let me decide if I'm happy. The staff is friendly and professional just not seriously outgoing. They are New Yorkers and act accordingly. I've never ever felt unwelcome. I've also never felt the need to share my life story with them. Often when I go in there are folks who are clearly their far more frequently than I am and I overhear snatches of gossipy conversations. That said I've never felt like I wasn't welcome or that my order wasn't important to them.

Yelp
I've been to this bagel shop a few times over the past few years. The last time I went there I got a bagel with lox and cream cheese. There prices are way over priced, the shop is very small, there is no where to sit inside and eat your bagel and they are extremely cheap with the cream cheese and lox. I got a lox bagel that cost me over $11 there and they wanted to put cream cheese on only one side of the bagel! CHEEP! They acted annoyed when I asked for a little more lox and cream cheese. Now my go to is New York Bagel on Yonkers ave. It's worth the drive and they fill the bagel with lox there and cream cheese and it's less than $9, there is plenty of tables and chair to sit and they have enough staff to move a long line very quickly.
google avatar

Jim C.

Yelp
Was not thrilled with my experience here. Was dying for a bagel with lox and cream cheese and went for it despite the $12 pricetag. When I got home and opened it up, I found a stale bagel with, at it's thickest, about a quarter inch of cream cheese on ONE side of the bagel, and a couple thin slivers of lox. What a ripoff! There are much better bagel places in the bronx and yonkers. Avoid this one.

Sabrina H.

Yelp
The food is amazing but the customer service is horrible. There is an older lady with blonde hair that is just so rude!Every time I go there to order lunch the line is out the door - proof of just how delicious the food is. Instead of being happy that business is booming, blonde lady seems to get more angry. It's like if you are not a personal friends of theirs all they want is your money. Bottom line - The food is delicious but overpriced and don't order from the blonde.

Andrew R.

Yelp
This place get on my nerves because I usually go in to get breakfast for my manager and I and they ALWAYS mess up his order. And I know I said the right thing because I'm reading straight from my text messages. But the two Hispanic guys are really nice probably the only nice people who work there. There are two older white women who work in front, I can't really tell the difference between them sometimes but one of them has an attitude and one time I came in and I guess I was taking too long to figure oit what I wanted to order and I heard her mumble something under her breath. Like, chill out bro. I'm the sweetest teddy bear in the toy aisle so why you mad? And come to think about it I never got a proper greeting or goodbye from them either which is a big pet peeve of mine because I always give a nice "Hello, how are you". The food is okay. They cook well but are bad at following directions.

Brian J.

Yelp
Good bagels, but expensive. Line can be long and lead you to be waiting outside since the store is so small. They make a decent sausage, egg and cheese, but its pricey for an egg sandwich.

Adele G.

Yelp
Definitely a convenient spot to grab a bagel or a breakfast sandwich; ample parking (even a side lot) and pretty speedy service! I have had a BEC that was pretty good and I frequently buy bagels there. The bagels are not that flavorful, and they will occasionally do weird things like "toast" your bagel on the grill. Like other reviewers, i have experienced the unfriendly service from the owners. At least the other workers are great, smiley, and super helpful! Overall? not the worst, but not the best.

Tish R.

Yelp
Watch out, not the bagel shop your thinking. Just moved to the area and when I saw a bagel shop. I pulled so excited. They don't seem to toast the put it on the grill next to the bacon or at least that is what it taste like. Also over priced for a bagel, butter and jelly. $2.50??? Maybe worth it if it was the bagel shop I thought it to be. Where are the bagels shops? Brooklyn and Queens has tons. FYI just called, you have to request your bagel to get toasted if not it is placed on the grill. No wonder the bacon smell and taste, thank heavens I can eat pork!!!!
