Rivers To The Sea, Maui Surf Lessons

Had an amazing first surf lesson with Sharky. Immediately scheduled another lesson with Sharky for my wife and daughter who had a blast. Everyone got up on the board, surfed and had a safe fun time out in the clear warm waters of Maui. Would go back to Sharky every time. He’s great with kids and all levels. Very knowledgeable on all aspects of surfing and reading the waves. When everyone else was waiting in the same spot, he was pointing out where to paddle to catch more waves. Overall, awesome!

We had the absolute pleasure of learning to surf with Tanner, and it was one of the true highlights of our trip to Maui. Tanner wasn’t just an instructor, he was enthusiastic and a deeply knowledgeable guide who made the experience accessible and incredibly fun for all four of us, including two teens. What set Tanner apart was not only his calm, encouraging approach but also his willingness to go beyond the basics. We asked him to teach us how to read and identify beginner-friendly waves, and he generously shared insights from a lifetime of dedication to the sport. As a world-ranked professional surfer, Tanner’s love for surfing radiated in every tip, every push, and every wave he helped us catch. It’s clear that this isn’t just a job for him—it’s his passion and his craft. We caught more waves than we could have imagined, and by the end, we were completely worn out, in the best way possible. If we weren’t so exhausted, we would have stayed out there learning from him all day. When we return to Maui, we’ll be booking with Rivers to the Sea again and crossing our fingers that Tanner is still sharing his gift with others. Mahalo, Tanner! You gave us a memory we’ll carry forever.

I love the ocean but wasn’t sure if I was going to like surfing. I’m older and felt like it was more for the younger generation. Not true. We are a family of 3. We did a semi-private with the 3 of us which I would recommend. It was a great time. Memorable family fun. Our instructor Anne-Marie was great. They supplied everything you need. I want to do it again!

We came to Maui from Alberta Canada….Kody, was our instructor for our boys ages 14 and 8. He was AMAZING with them!!! So patient and great at explaining things and taking care of them! The boys had an awesome time and got up Several times throughout their session!! His buddy Andrew took photos to capture these great memories!! We would highly recommend this company for surf lessons. They are great communicators, friendly and personable! Thanks for making our boys first surf session an awesome memory!!!!

We signed up for the semi private lessons for both my kids. They are first time surfers. Jason is awesome at keeping us updated with the surf conditions. He’s very patient and tries to ensure both kids are getting equal attention. They had a blast and caught some small waves! We’ll definitely come back and do this again with Jason.

We did lessons for two teens and they LOVED it - they were catching waves within the first 15 minutes! I was deeply impressed they were able to start so quickly and they loved their instructor. Highly recommend this company!

They made it so easy and enjoyable. Our 9yo daughter and 14 yo son had a blast. Everyone wanted to do it again. Thanks Eric and Anne Marie. Would 100% recommend and do this again.
