Riverside Cafe

Looked up waffles to get near me. Saw a picture of a perfect waffle on Riverside Cafe’s photos on their Google listing, indicating they had good waffles. Instead, for $27, they give us this garbage. Pathetic. Lazy. I won’t ever make the mistake of considering this place again.

A cool little historic diner in the Riverside neighborhood. There is definitely history on the walls! If for no other reason go catch up on the history of Wichita and the neighborhood of the diner. The waitress is definitely a bit grouchy in the morning. But she was fast and pretty efficient. To all those that said she is rude, maybe she is not there to be your friend. She is there to get you a plate full of hot food and a drink if you desire. She did that with ease. The food was slightly above average. Again, I am not expecting a Michelin restaurant experience! It was a solid reasonably priced meal. May they celebrate 100 years in business!

We went at 10:45am on a Tuesday and there were about 6 tables taken. We seated ourselves and the waitress came over immediately and was friendly and quick. We ordered the Hungry Woman, Junkyard Dog omelette, and a cinnamon roll. The cinnamon roll was delicious and HUGE!!! My husband and I shared it and we still had to take half of it home. The junkyard dog omelette was gigantic and packed full of the fillings. The biscuits and gravy were seasoned to perfection and my husband loved the eggs and sausage. The portions were so big we took 3 boxes home, which was crazy considering how good the prices were! Our coffee cups were kept full and the staff's conversations with the regulars were fun to listen to. We loved it! We have been to quite a few cafes and diners but this one is the best we've found in Wichita.

First visit to the diner. Since the re-grand opening. Lets just say nothing has changed. You will still be greated the same way. And sit in the same ol seat.... And the best part the food is still the same... Huge portions so come extra hungry. And if you never tried this place trust me. And you'll thank me later. The true greasy spoon diner. Glad your still here.

Food was SOO GOOD. Had the Philly w/Sweet Potato Fries. Will be making this a regular place for sure! UPDATE: We went back the next day and each ordered the 1lb Cheeseburger… AMAZING. Perfectly cooked. Taste was amazing! I think on the next trip I’ll get some of their Pie. OHH and the prices are great too!

R Coffeehouse was closed, so my SIL from out of state and I were looking for another place for lunch in the area. Huge mistake......we both agreed it was the worst food we remember ever having. She left most of hers (I couldn't tell what it was), and I brought mine home to my husband who can eat anything. Not their Reuben and fries.....to the trash.

This was our visit! Service was great, friendly waitress and the cook even sang some music while he cooked our food with love❤ it was delicious. I had the hot meatloaf sandwich, my spouse had the chicken fried chicken sandwich. We we'll be back for some PIE!! NEW PIES ON MONDAY'S, they did have a peanut butter pie that looked 🔥

The people that work there are really nice and sweet they busy their butts working but for the to be treating them the way she does specially the young dishwasher she doesn't deserve to have them as employees so I suggest if you go to Riverside cafe on 13th be respectful and nice to those employees they dealing with a lot with the owner Melissa maybe is she care about her employees instead of money you need employees to make money so if you treat them like shit you going to lose them then what you going to do about make money you going to lose money so I suggest you Melissa to start treating your employees with more respect and quit treating them the way you do .

This is one of my favorites to eat when you're looking for a small old town diner. From the outside none of them look like much and on the inside you can tell that these are old restaurants. But the service has been amazing each time I go. When friends and family come into town, this is where I take them . They are ALWAYS pleasantly surprised. Not only is the food great but the prices are good also. I've never ordered anything that I didn't like so I would say... just Do you!!! Try it.... you'll like it!!

Pretty disappointed. Went here for breakfast. They were out of ham. They were out of fried potatoes. Food was average at best. Booths were sticky. The restaurant does offer a certain nastalgic appeal. The service itself was good.

This location has reopened! Eating here this morning. It's the same menu as before but they've raised prices a little to adjust for the current economy. Seems just the same as before! Staff is friendly and helpful. So glad to have this back in Riverside. So glad they were able to come back after the fire.

My husband and I have been coming here every so often since our kids and grand kiddos live in Wichita. We have always enjoyed this place, but after what we witnessed today, I don't think we will be going back. Now I don't know the whole story but the manager of the restaurant berated this poor waitress in front of everyone. She had made a mistake of some kind but that doesn't give her any right to treat a young lady like that. The waitress couldn't have been older than 18. I was a waitress for 30+ years and I would have quit immediately. I think everyone was somewhat embarrassed by this display. Shame on her! The food is great and the location is alright, but definitely not worth coming back if the employees are being treated like that. I had to make a yelp account just to write this but it had to be said. I hope she is okay!

We went there especially wanting a sit down, home style dinner. We ordered their fried chicken dinner. What we got was dried up chicken! We tried to express how it looked to the waitress but she seemed put out that we would criticize the food. And how it looked was how it tasted! Very dry and not much there for the price! Will not go back for seconds!

Food was passably good. Server was the worst ever. I'd heard it was recently reopened. I hope they do well but will not return with help like her.

Food ok, service just ok, found it to be to dirty for my taste meaning floor and window sill area, kitchen looked a little sketchy.

Not the cleanest place. A serious greasy diner. A little too grubby for me. Seating too crowded. Not too impressed with the food.

Will not return. Server was ok. Food was decent, if I were a dog. Was sat just beside the bathroom entrance. Smelling like toilet cleaner the entire time. Do not recommend. Won't be using the loyalty card that's for sure! Meat loaf was like directly from the can. Good thing I ordered from the "lunch special half order" menu. Frankly, it's surprising we didn't get food poisoning!

Had bought a deal on Groupon for this place. We went on a Sunday ( I think). It was busy. Had to wait for a few minutes for sitting. Sat down at table. It was a little bit before asking us for drinks. We got them and looked at menu. So I chose an omelet! Not sure now what Sister had. But we waited close to 45 minutes for our food to be delivered to our table. Just when we were going to walk out we got our food. When we inquired about why we hadn't gotten our food, as other tables that had arrived and seated after us had gotten their food, the waitress explained that apparently there is only one grill in kitchen and they make pancakes first!!! What !!!! But once you get your meal it is delicious! Not too sure I will be back on weekends. But yes I will be back again.

Riverside Cafe is a must!!! Enormous food portions, yummy home cooked taste, friendly staff, fun decor. Syrup for French toast came in a small pitcher, creamer came in a small teapot. This place is amazing!

Wish I wouldn't have gobbled down my food before I could take a pic! Honestly, from the outside, it wasn't the nicest looking place. But the food was really good and the server kept my coffee warmed up! We would stop in again for a good, hot breakfast.

Older neighborhood restaurant that has good breakfast brunch. Went on a Saturday morning which was busy but seated quick. You sit where you want which is nice. Customer service is friendly. I got the hungry kid which comes with sausage, bacon, eggs, hash brown and choice of pancake or biscuit and gravy. Went with biscuit n gravy which you can tell it's homemade and real sausage. Loved it. I'm picky about my scramble eggs, this place got it right, thumbs up. My hubby got coffee and he hates having to open the cream for his coffee. This place actually brings you warm milk to use for your coffee. Nice home made breakfast place.

I read an article that Alton Brown came here and ordered everything on the menu so I wanted to see what all the hype was about. It did not disappoint. The pancakes were massive and fluffy. I ordered two not knowing and made it through one without bursting. I am very much looking forward to leftovers later. I was looking at everyone else's food and saw a cinnamon roll the size of a big plate. You could even tell they broke out the good bacon and syrup. So good.

Ooh my. The best liver and onions I've ever had. Very tender and yummy (just a little grease) covered with lots of onions. The breakfast ham and eggs was delicious. The hash was over cooked, but was replaced with better. Try the cream corn nuggets for an appetizer. They are truly delicious. The pie looked so yummy, but we were so full. There was no room. We couldn't ask for better service. Everyone was very friendly and attentive. Prices were good for the amount of food. We would highly recommend this cafe to everyone.

Very difficult driveway and parking area! Nice staff, ok food. My salad was cheaply made for that price but it was a very large portion served. (Food was good but salad was over priced) Service was good. Dress attire is casual.

My large family and I were passing through Wichita to head home to Nebraska. I checked out TripAdvisor and Yelp and this diner had good reviews. I checked out the menu as well. I thought the sandwich prices were very fair and sounded good. The 11 of us went in and were nicely greeted. This diner is comfortable, relaxed, and very laid back. We ordered and I got a Reuben. It was probably the best Reuben I have ever had! The menu stated the sandwiches came with half fries. Holy moly! We had half a plate of homemade fries! So good! The burgers looked good as well! The staff was very friendly and tolerant when a few of our kids got crabby. The exterior of the building may make you rethink stopping, but do it! You'll love it!

Riverside Cafe takes that whole 'greasy spoon' thing literally. The food is safe, bland and predictable. I mean that as a compliment, as the menu is familiar, formulaic. The service is fine. But parking is terrible, in this sketchy party of town. And the space is in bad need of a spring cleaning and refurbishing. Save your money and have breakfast at home--anyone can scramble eggs.

Great little hole in the wall. All their breakfast servings are large and very tasty! Plus great service even when they're busy.

This is a great brunch location in Wichita. Service is quick and their is typically a wait to get in and out. The Staff does a good job meeting the needs of what you want The food is good and consistant Prices are good

Overcooked food (bacon and eggs), poor waitstaff, and apathetic management. Won't be back.

This place has gone downhill fast, with the new staff and management.I will definitely not go back again.

Went in today for their Thursday 'Special' -- Pot Roast. You get to pick Soup or Salad and your Veggie (I chose Peas). It also comes with a Roll with some Butter Tubs. The Pot Roast comes with 2 Potatoes, 2 Carrots & 2 Carrots. There were some Onion Pieces and Gravy. Really, really good!! This time I took more pictures.

Great food, great service, fair price, ample portions and a wonderfully friendly staff. My wife had the Philly cheesesteak and fries, and was completely satisfied with her meal. I had the HUGE burrito in green chili sauce, and was very surprised how filling this single item was... I would have asked for a to go box, but burritos don't reheat very well, so I stuffed myself to finish it... :) They also had an "extra" hot sauce you have to ask for, but it was not only pretty hot, it was also delicious and flavorful... The Mrs told me we will be going back, and she'll get no argument from me... Highly recommend giving the Riverside Cafe a try!

Riverside Café is one of our go-to breakfast spots in Wichita. The food is always hot and delicious, and it's one of the few places that we frequent that I've never had to send back an order for a correction. But, the most special thing about Riverside Café is the staff. Friendly, efficient, and caring people who do their jobs with a smile on their face and make sure their customers know that they appreciate our business.

We really enjoy this place! While they quite busy on weekends, it's rare we wait more than a few minutes for a table. They have a large menu full of selections so everyone should be able to find something to their liking. They serve excellent breakfast food. My favorite is the light and fluffy biscuit. Servers are usually fast and friendly.

I travel a lot and alway try to find the little mom and pop places that give you the at home feel and this place did not disappoint! A little place with good food that is priced right. I came in for breakfast on Saturday and the place was hopping. I was seated right away and the service was quick and friendly. The selection was good with lots of options for breakfast and go with the hunger man but loosen you belt first. I was very pleased with the place and will be back.

My son was hungry & fast food wasn't going to be enough. Where do we go? To Riverside Cafe. It's like going to Grandma's house. Love the atmosphere. Love the service. The food tastes like a home cooked meal. And will fill you up. Riverside is hands down my favorite place to eat in all of Wichita.

I have lived in Wichita, KS for over a decade now, and I must say I how much I enjoy being a customer here, breakfast, lunch, AND dinner! Service is excellent, and the staff are friendly no matter if it's your first time in or your 100th! I was compelled to finally post a review because of the level of expertise I encountered with the Reuben sandwich tonight! Reuben's are either executed well or something's off. I'm particular over the kraut, and the thousand island and the blend going on this tasty 'wich just sent me over the moon! Thank you, to the female chef who expressed her excitement in making it, as she too, loves Reubens. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

On a recent road trip through Colorado, Kansas, and Oklahoma just trying restaurants and seeing the sights, we randomly chose the Riverside Cafe in Wichita. I'm sire glad we did. Of all the places we ate at, this was my overall favorite experience. The food was great and the atmosphere was even better. A bustling cafe with great eats. I had the chicken fried chicken sandwich and couldn't resist getting the half order of biscuits and gravy. My whole meal was about 10 bucs and wonderful. I will most definitely be returning. *edit .....so I returned....and it was just as yummy as the first time. I LOVE this place for breakfast and only wish I lived closer. *edit2....returned again, a year later. this time had chicken fried steak. Excellent once again!!

The breakfast here is very good I am a regular there since I live in riverside. The pancakes are huge, light & fluffy. Delicious hash browns & Eggs. They cook the eggs exactly like you order them. Pricing is fair not too expensive. The service is always friendly, polite & professional.

We were in town for a convention and stopped here for a bite before heading back home. GREAT move! From the minute we walked in it felt like we were locals at our favorite cafe. Nina was an AMAZING waiter. She was witty, genuine and clearly knows her menu~ we had a thousand questions and special orders and she answered them all and made sure every single order was exactly as requested. We all had breakfast and each meal was plentiful and yummy...& incredibly Inexpensive. To top it off, My coffee cup was never empty. The only negative here is that Wichita is 7 hours away from home!

This place. oh man. so freaking good. more food than any human being has any business eating for breakfast, less expensive than a fast food meal. Staff are friendly and the place is always packed. I highly recommend getting a pancake, and I say a pancake because they are the size of the plate they come on, and even smell like sweet yummy heaven.

Riverside cafe is one of those hometown diner type delicious places you can go for a good, hearty, cheap breakfast. I love that they cook good food and don't charge an arm and a leg.

Looking for a greasy hole-in-the-wall? You found it! While the place is lacking in decor and fresh air, the food is pretty legit. They have a great chicken fried chicken and steak salad. I know that sounds weird but the homemade honey mustard is to die for! I'm not a big breakfast person so we usually go for lunch or dinner. They have daily specials written on the chalk board menu. If you're looking for good homestyle cooking, that's what you'll get. Just don't mind the stale cigarette smell from when the place still had a smoking section

Stopped by this morning and had a great Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs. Tasted great! The young man who was sitting customers looked out the window and saw two older ladies coming in and ran to the door to open it for them. Very thoughtful!

As good as it gets! Don't walk, run to the Riverside Cafe...because you surely won't be running home after you eat at this gem. Just about as down home as you can find, from the photos and memorabalia on the walls, to the the chickens everwhere. Friendly and prompt service and food that is just as it is billed. Had the Rueben with fries which was very good. Highly recommend the Riverside!

Food was ok but scrambled eggs were fried, not fluffy scrambled. Bacon was not crispy. Gravy and biscuit was good but a little salty for my taste. Servicer was excellent and very friendly. Will come back but maybe not for breakfast.

One of the best places for breakfast in Wichita. The pancakes are the bomb! My daughter had biscuits and gravy with a side of link sausage. The link sausage is a must have. The coffee is also hot and fresh no need to open a bunch of little creamers they still put a little pitcher of cream in the table. We've been twice and we've found a table right away each time. The staff is so much fun. This is going to be a great family spot for us.

I've been to the location in derby and Wichita and never have been disappointed in the food. Loved their coupon where you could buy one get one free or half off (can't remember which I would eat here again.

Delicious food. Fast service. Friendly. A real historic gem in the riverside and larger Wichita community.

I really wanted to like this place because it's a local favorite and it's in my neighborhood. My friend and I ordered two reubens and they were too salty (too much cheese), had little meat and sauerkraut, and had no thousand island dressing at all. The chips that came with my order were expired, and my friend's order was accidentally given to another table. Comfort food isn't hard to mess up, but Riverside succeeded at that. Maybe their chef and server were both having a bad day, but I'll take my chances and drive farther to eat at Doo-Dah's next time.

Everything here is good. Breakfast food at its best! This place has a wonderful eclectic atmosphere you would expect to find at an established diner. Portions are big, the wait staff is friendly and you will leave stuffed.

This place is not the best for sure, it was decent, too bad it was slow service and kids did not enjoy their food either.

Ordered the pecan pancakes, which were different and delicious. The flour was airy which allowed me to not use too much syrup (as opposed to other pancakes that seem to just soak up the syrup). I also ordered a side of corned beef hash and hash browns. The hash browns were perfectly crispy, but the corned beef hash was a bit on the salty side. The service was excellent. A waitress was putting away some apple butter and I overheard her telling someone that it was very popular. I said I'd never even heard of that before. She said I needed to try it and that it tastes really good with raisin bread. She wasted no time getting the items for me to try so that I could enjoy what other customers love.

I tried something different today... No breakfast, just dinner. I had the meat loaf, mashed potatoes, green beans and a salad... Meat loaf was horrible!!!!! Potatoes were dry.... The green beans and roll was good. Our server Nina was amazing!!! I think I'll just stick to my normal breakfast from now on & I won't be disappointed!
