Riverside Hotel Durban

The 2 stars are for the great service and the decor in the room. The food was absolutely terrible. The breakfast and lunch is easily the worst food that I've ever had in my life. We got food poisoning and spent days trying to recover from it. The food was bland and not fresh at all. The conference centre food was slightly better. Something needs to be done about that. The rooms need updating, but they were very clean and well decorated. The beds were comfortable, and the coffee/tea station was also cute. The bar area closes really early. Security is hostile. I would not stay here again!

I wanted to express my sincere appreciation for the wonderful experience I had during my stay this past weekend. The level of service provided by your staff was truly exceptional, and it made for an amazing visit. I was particularly impressed by Mannie. Listening to his morning news update showcased his knowledge and attention to detail. Furthermore, his ability to address customers by name and the clear passion he has for his work was truly remarkable. It's evident that his dedication filters down and positively impacts the entire team. This was my first stay at your hotel, and I can confidently say that it will be my only choice whenever I am in Durban. Well done to Mannie, all the staff, and the leadership team for creating such a positive and high-quality experience. Thank you again for everything.

The warmth and welcome was amazing, from all stuff members, you start at security and you feel the love from all people, they are so helpful. As for me I am a sleeping bird, Thursday I was late and couldn't make it to breakfast but the well mannered lady at reception insisted to help me, asked the kitchen stuff to pack the breakfast for me, and they saved me money because I was going to buy something on the road. I love Riverside thank you.

The hotel itself is very beautiful and it comes with a beautiful view. The only thing is that the shower is so small that you can hardly move much. Check-in should be early, not at 3 .The food at the restaurant wasn't that good for breakfast. But overall stuff is very helpful and welcoming.

Went to try the special at Hops. Steak, egg and chips - well prepared and presented. Waitron accorded us a great service. 👍 However, my "disappointment" was the cutlery 🤔 The steak knife was so 'filmsy' it felt like it was 'sawing' through the steak .. it required more effort to slice than to enjoy having a bite. The quality of the blade - it bent "backwards" literally as opposed to a good quality knife. The value for the meal was excellent, I did enjoy the portion and serving. The atmosphere was great - wasn't busy and overcrowded or noisy.

We always book at the Riverside when attending competitions with our athletes in Durban. The Riverside is well situated close to most major attractions which are less than 10mins away. Rooms are large, clean and well appointed. When travelling with young athletes, it is important that the hotel is able to cater for their needs and requirements. Being a family oriented hotel, the food is of a very high quality, excellent breakfasts included and ample room for team meetings etc. We feel the value for money is excellent with many room options available. Management is friendly and approachable and staff always attentive. Service can be a little slow at times especially when the hotel is busy. We wouldnt stay anywhere else in Durban, and our athletes clearly enjoy their stay as they always seem to win!!

The hotel does nit have hot water to shower for selected times during the day. Maintenance sends someone to open the hot water tap in your room as if you not already doing this and the duty manager apologizes and tells you she didnt know so to alert reception if u have an issue again. The next day same issue and u notify reception only for maintenance to come to your room to open the hot water to check if you know which is the hot water. After years of staying at this hotel for many reasons, riverside hotel has lost a not just myself, the rest of my extended family, my work colleagues and staff and their guests

Rooms were nice and big! The hotel seems to be getting better every time I stay there but still looks like it needs a good clean and a renovation in some areas.
