Had an evening meal this evening and the staff were pleasant and attentive. The beer and cider was well served.
My wife had a pasta dish which was fine, I ordered local beef steak pie with a rich gravy and the waitress was kind enough to substitute chips for mash.
On arrival, the first two chunks of beef in the pie were gristly fatty horrible pieces of beef that were undercooked and frankly appalling. The waitress agreed and said she wouldn’t eat it either. Fair enough, the dish was taken away and not charged for. The minuscule gravy jug contained watery gravy that was not even of packet quality. We are used to rich complex gravy that has been derived from concentrated bones and stock, not anaemic bland characterless liquid made in 2 minutes. If I had stuck with this plate of food, I would have been turned off steak pie.
Throughout, the staff were courteous but if I had been chef, and witnessed the quality of the undercooked gristle served tonight I would have apologised. My bill was £82 for three people, no starters, one ice cream and an average Merlot. We plan to cook at home tomorrow evening.
