Rjúpnavellir Camping & Cottages

Amazing experience. We were not planning to stay at this location, but a night storm destroyed our tent and we had to come here for cover. The owners took great care of us, super helpful and friendly. We booked a room for a day, it was perfectly clean and warm. Amenities like bathroom and kitchen worked well. The location is perfect to start the Hellismannaleid trail. In August we had no flies or insects. We also saw great spots to put your tent around the campsite. It was a small paradise !

…yep, all the comments about the missing amenities are true and yes, a bit more „love“ and a bit more equipment for campers would be great. It’s quiet obvious that the owner focuses more on the cabins then the campground…however, the two hosts Antonio and his wife where incredibly friendly and kind, that’s why I give this rating. Also the place was one of the nicest campgrounds location wise I saw in Iceland. It’s not just a flat grassy area but has some trees around and you can find some more private spots.

Decent campground with very friendly owners. The chicken were very cute. I wish I could have given 5 stars, however the shower cost extra (500 isk for 5 min) and there is only one shower and one toilet for the whole campground. It was okay outside the main season, however I imagine it has to be terrible during summer time. Also there is no hot water to wash dishes.

Location absolutely stunning. If you intend to drive up to Landmannalaugar, this is a perfect place to overnight. We did that but I wish we had more time, it is a lovely place by itself. Fully equipped kitchen, The beds are fantastic for a family, two bunks large enough for 3 persons each, so can easily fit a larger family too. Yes, the midges are an annoyance in summer, but that is not site-specific, close the windows and use a repellent and you are fine. The couple that runs the place are the kindest people. We stayed in the cabin but there is also a campground, but can't really write about that as we have not experienced that. Parking next to your cottage, convenient to offload and load the car.

Great experience camping here! We were sheltered from the wind in the trees, and the container 'dining room' is perfect to cook and heat up. Owner are super friendly and shower hot and clean!

Quiet place which unfortunately for us was ruined by the swarms of flies (June). The lady said with more wind it keeps them away but this was unbearable. Couldn’t open the car door without the car filling with flies. Stayed on a rooftop tent and waited for it to cool down late into the evening to set up but the morning was terrible. We got up and left as soon as possible to escape the flies. I’m sure with wind this is much better, campsite seems ok. Small room with a kettle and microwave, no pots or stove. Owner does a ‘minimarket’ where you can buy snacks and some basics for a meal. 4600 for two people no electricity, don’t think this included shower though, although didn’t stay around in the morning to see.

Beautiful camping. Quiet, chill and clean. Hot shower, clean wc and amazing views. Surrounded by nature and horses.

The owner is super nice and the place was beautiful! The landscape was amazing a lot of places to hike “near by”. The rivers is some meters away. The cabin were cozy and well insulated. You need to bring your own food because there is no store or restaurant near by. The owner sells some stuff but it is better to come prepared. I totally recommend this place if you would like a place to be relaxed and enjoy nature.
