Where to Stay in Brisbane When You Visit (Updated 2025)

"Across from the main train station, I find Roamer Brisbane a strong budget option: an upscale-feeling hostel with private rooms and dorms painted in warm tones, pod-style bunks with curtains and outlets, and extras like a co-working area, outdoor cinema terrace, library, and a fully equipped kitchen." - Matthew Kepnes

Such a sweet hostel! The staff are all so attentive and friendly. There’s events on every single day so it’s super easy to make friends. The rooms have curtains and plenty of storage space which is always amazing. Super clean and the kitchen is well equipped. 10/10 would stay again!

I had high hopes for this place as it is highly rated but felt like the star rating is very misleading. The room had no proper ventilation, and you can’t even open the windows. The bed design is terrible — half the bed space is taken up by the locker, making it cramped and uncomfortable. It’s easy to bump your knee, and there’s barely any space to move. The kitchen is far too small for the number of guests and lacks proper ventilation, so the entire place constantly smells like cooking. The lounge is stuffy and smells like stinky socks, which is really unpleasant. There are no other common areas to sit or chill, which makes the stay feel even more restrictive. They also charge extra for towels, which feels unreasonable given the high price for what you get. Overall, the place felt suffocating and poorly designed. I definitely wouldn’t stay here again and would not recommend it to anyone.

I had a great stay at Roamer Brisbane. I was pleasantly surprised with a room upgrade to a corner room with a wonderful view of the city. What I really liked most is its excellent location—walking distance to everything: attractions, Roma Street train station, public buses, restaurants, shopping malls, and convenience stores. The property also has its own café, perfect for breakfast and lunch. What’s interesting are the activities they host every afternoon until nighttime, which add to the overall experience. Highly recommended!

I loved this hostel!! I stayed there for 5 days. The staff is very nice and attentive. I had the opportunity to speak with a member of the housekeeping team because I forgot my towel and they were very kind and helpful. When I checked in the lady at the desk explained everything I needed to know for my stay and even gave me recommendations of the city. She even gave me a free upgrade to a 6-bed dorm! I had already been to Roamer St kilda in Melbourne, and it does not disappoint. The bunk beds have a curtain, the mattress and pillow are comfortable and you have a socket right in your bed to charge your phone. They have activities every day! I loved the night out and the paint and sip! The bar is so cosy and has amazing food! I recommend the coffee and breakfast, but I’d have eaten everything in the menu. Overall highly recommended!

This hotel was almost perfect. Reception staff were amazing, location was amazing, facilities were great, EXCEPT, my room was not cleaned for the whole of my 4 days stay. I’m an extremely clean and tidy person so my room was kept clean, however it would’ve been nice if my bed was actually made and the rubbish in the room removed. In all my years of extensive travel around the world, I have never experienced this. I stayed in a private room ( NOT a dorm) and was very surprised that this happened.

Everything was decent. The room was tired with some permanent stains, but clean. The size of the room is good and the shower worked fine. Tv and fridge would be good. It felt a bit too pricy for the amenities provided. But the location is superb. And they have an inexpensive bar downstairs. And staff were nice.

Honestly an amazing hostel experience. I love and appreciate the privacy curtains on the dorm beds and having the in room shared bathroom. The attached bar/restaurant had delicious food (albeit sometimes with a long wait, but usually worth the wait). All staff I met were incredibly friendly.

Rooms are a bit dark and I would prefer washrooms outside the room. Common spaces a bit of a weird vibe. Staff very helpful and friendly, especially Mike at Reception is the best. Helped me out with my paperwork and advice for the city, while being smiley and engaging. Thanks Mike!
