9 Best Brunch Spots in Berlin | Condé Nast Traveler

"There's always a crowd hovering outside this tiny neighborhood joint. Inside, the rather crowded space, packed to the gills with seating and surfaces, can't quite keep up with demand. Food at Roamers, popular with the Instagram set, is seasonal, hearty, and nutritious—even the egg plates come with a perfectly dressed salad. If you lean sweet, the French toast is a masterpiece, with in-season fruit and Greek yogurt cascading over three golden pieces of bread. Any of the skillets will inspire envy, with the decadently savory El Camino—black beans (a rarity in Berlin), huevos rancheros, poached egg, toast, and a side salad—persuading hungover locals to make it through the day. Presentation is also excellent, with much attention paid to texture and contrast." - Krystin Arneson

Roamers was on my to go list since long time. Finally last weekend me and friends had a great time here. The food a very delicious and on point. The ingredients were fresh and portions were super pretty. There are various egg options and pancakes and also a vegan option. The coffee was very nice, we ordered a cappuccino. A little bit pricey though and also the place is quite small so they struggle to accommodate large groups. Nevertheless highly recommended for anyone who’s looking for a flavorful brunch with great vibe.

Google
Back in the days this place used to be awesome but what has happened now? The portions are so small - especially the ones on the big trays, they look ridiculous... We had to wait ages, our drinks were completely forgotten and served after the food, no dessert on a Sunday morning...

Google
Super friendly staff. Cozy atmosphere. Cute place Coffee was very nice and the golden milk was good (bit too much turmeric) The eggs Benedict with salmon are super good. Very nice sauce hollandaise. The French toast was a bit dry and a bit too much caramelised but tasty.

Google
I really enjoyed the brunch. I liked overall the experience, coffee was perfect, French toast was missing something and I felt like it had somehow to much caramel. The interior is super cute, lots of plants but the place is really small and can be very loud which can make it difficult to have a conversation. Super friendly service.

Google
Eggs benedict came on supermarket white bread and eggs were fully cooked through. They made us new runny eggs so hence 3 and not 1 star. Also waited 45min for this rather mediocre brunch. Would not recommend.

Google
A small cozy place with very nice staff. The food was spicy, tasted great and arrived quick. A lunch for 3 went for under 50€ with coffee and dessert. Music volume was just perfect and the bathroom was clean. I have zero complaints.

Google
The wild boar banh mi is quite frankly the best brunch dish in all of Berlin. It is really an amazing. Everything from the coffee to the cake of the day (which in our case was cheesecake) is really top notch. I just never tried the typical eggs on toast brunch options there that you see everywhere else, but honestly its much smarter to go with their more innovative specialty dishes. Its a small and cozy place so make sure you are willing to wait a bit for a table. Fabulous and friendly staff, its always at the top of my list of brunch recommendations in the city.

Google
Updated Review 2022: Sadly this place just isn't very good anymore. They changed up the menu and last time we went the food was a bit bland and uninspired. They also don't really have the carrot cake like they used to. The french toast was good but the drunken cowboy was just disappointing. Honestly not worth waiting for Original Review - 2018: This place is hands down the best brunch place that I have been to in Berlin. The food is fresh and elegantly arranged on the plate and the orders were just the right amount of filling. All I can say is that their sourdough bread was out of this world and is something I have missed since moving to Germany. The only downside is that the inside, while quite beautiful is small and cannot sit many people. Expect a minimum of a 30 min. wait if you are going there for a weekend brunch date.

Yelp
If you have any semblance of interest in Berlin's brunch scene, you've probably seen photos of Roamers online. This tiny restaurant in Neukölln is the stuff that hipsters dream of: succulents and other plants galore, rustic decor, food served on wooden slabs instead of plates, long waits, and Instagram-worthy food. I'll admit to snapping a quick pic or two of my food before I dig in, but to my horror, one of the diners actually whipped out his DSLR and had a five-minute photoshoot with his meal before actually eating. So... yeah. You should know what to expect from Roamers before you get here. That being said, some of the obnoxiously hip clientele shouldn't put you off from visiting Roamers because the food is more than pretty good -- if you visit at a strategic time, of course. (Swing by on a weekday morning!) Immediately after walking in, I had the impression that the owner must be enamored with California -- the state flag, a license plate, and the plethora of succulents sort of gave it away. But there was an out-of-place Southwestern vibe that didn't quite jive with this Californian aesthetic. I asked the owner about it before I left and he revealed that he was inspired by Joshua Tree in Southern California. The food reflects this Californian/Wild West/Mexican aesthetic -- kale on kale, jalapeño cheese sandwiches, french toast, avocado toast, huevos rancheros, etc. I had the french toast, which was absolutely impeccable. Roamers really takes it up a notch with their interpretation of this classic breakfast dish: caramelized pear, berries, jam, and greek yogurt! At €8, it was worth every cent. And having complimentary tap water is definitely a plus because it's such a rarity in Berlin!

Yelp
Amazing food, amazing place, kind and quick service! Although we had to wait 25minutes for hour table, because the place is very very small, our experience was unforgettable. We ordered 3 caffees, a granola bowl, a french toast, and bread with goat cheese and figs. All of them were extremely pretty, and also super delicious. Everything was freshly made and tasted super nice. Not the right place for families, because the tables are relatively small, and its hard to give a table for 4 or 5people. The prices are also expensive but for once it's totally worth it.:)

Yelp
For people who only want to speak English - this place is perfect for you. The menu is only in English and the waitstaff only spoke English, even to each other! The food theme seemed to be a bit tex-mex, which originally drew me to the cafe, because I love spicy eggs for breakfast. The quality of the food was very good but it wasn't quite tex-mex spicy and the salsa that came with my eggs was a sauce, not salsa. I'm being overly picky because I really miss a good spicy salsa with my eggs and didn't quite get it here, but the atmosphere and overall flavor and quality of the food made it worth coming too.

Yelp
This cafe is a hidden treasure! Super small, doesn't look like much from the outside... But: Great fresh food. Looks amazing and taste even more amazing! We've tried the avocado bread and the beetroot with goat cheese bread. Both on sourdough with fantastic flavors. We drank their beetroot drink and a home made ginger beer. Both sandwiches and the drinks were well decorated with greens and clearly they were made with a lot of love. Not a lot of tables; you might have to wait outside for a bit. Cozy inside with lots of plants and cute tables and chairs. Will definitely come back many many more times!

Yelp
Delicious delicious delicious! Fantastic brunch place. My friend and I shared the French toast and the Huevos rancheros. Firstly, the presentation is delectable, beautiful boards with all the right trimmings. On top of this, the French toast was crisp and delicious - not too sweet, just savoury enough to preserve the flavour. The Huevos rancheros was delicious too. The juices were also fresh and delicious, presented in the cutest little bottles. Things to be aware of - service is a bit patchy. There can be quite a large line even on weekdays (we went in on a Friday morning). Definitely keen to go back.

Caroline F.

Yelp
The best breakfast I've had in Berlin. A little more expensive than most but can't recommend the French toast enough--especially with an added side of bacon (€1 extra). Friendly staff & really cute decor. Take some time to walk around the neighborhood when you visit!

Yelp
Roamers is a brand new, super lovely cafe that set up shot in Neukölln. They serve coffee and other drinks (along with complimentary Leitungswasser), baked goods, some breakfast foods, and various bread combinations (with veggies, fruit, or cheese on top). The vegan options are fairly limited right now, but if you come for the coffee alone, you won't be disappointed. The interior is clean and minimalistic, with wooden tables and chairs and succulents throughout. There is also seating outdoors. The music is of the folksy, indie variety, giving it some relaxing vibes; in fact, the overall aesthetic is rather welcoming. And the guys working there are kind and friendly. The only downside is that WiFi was not working when I showed up, but hopefully it's not a long-term issue. Either way, I am excited to see what this space develops into.

Yelp
This was by far the best restaurant I ate at in Berlin. I went twice, once for breakfast and once for lunch. Immediately upon arriving the coziness of the restaurant is apparent from the outdoor tables, lush plants everywhere, and music coming out of the small restaurant. Each dish looks and tastes exquisite. Could not recommend this restaurant more highly. Be aware that it is cash only and the largest available table seats four people.

Yelp
A lovely place for breakfast and lunch....if you don't mind waiting a minimum of 1 hour. However, I would most likely return when I am in Berlin. The decor is lovely and the food was amazing! The service can be spotty, but expected in Germany. Waitress was surprisingly fluent in English - an added plus given a lot of people in Germany seems to understand English but cannot speak it. It is quite pricey in my opinion for brunch, but worth it to try at least once!

Yelp
I went for breakfast at Roamers an early Wednesday morning, because I'd seen this place popping up on both Instagram and Pinterest and I simply had to check it out. It was a 45-minute S-bahn ride from my hostel and I got pretty hungry on the way, but I didn't get disappointed - at all. Roamers is a small café (or maybe more like a jungle?) in Neukölln and without a doubt one of the awesomest places I've been to. Everything simply works here: the place looks pretty, the coffee is great, the food fantastic, the prices absolutely okay and the employees lovely. It's a popular place so there's many people and you might have to wait, but they take time for every single person and you can sit at the bar and wait for a free table if you want to. At the same time, you can easily sit a bit longer and write in you travel diary, like I did. There's no wifi though, so it's not meant to work here for hours. But, please go here if you get the chance - it's already on top of my Berlin list for when I'm coming back.

Yelp
One of Berlin's best breakfast spots! Raw decoration, great egg dishes. It's always packed, so here's the plan: Drop by, leave your name on the list, take a walk, come back after an hour or so, enjoy!

Sem W.

Yelp
Must say: I am impressed! The food was absolutely delicious, and presented in a pretty way with lot's of salad on the side. We had poached eggs with feta and tomato (super good!) and the salmon avocado on toast (also tasty!). Also, the coffee's were very creamy and good quality. The place looks cute and has a small terrace to sit in the sun. Why not 5 stars then: I was a bit bothered by the girl behind the counter, as she was very grumpy and kind of rude. But the food and atmosphere definitely make up for this! ------------------------------------ EDIT: we went back again, and this time the service was great!

Yelp
Can't go wrong with anything on the menu. I've tried almost everything on the menu, the egg plates and the skillets are always good choices. The coffee here is also excellent, same goes for their alcoholic beverages. Also, don't forget to try their carrot cake or cheesecake! The presentation of the dessert feels like a christmas on a plate. :) The wait can be a bit long during the weekends, but I never had a problem with getting a table on weekdays. Ps. they use Aesop hand soap in the bathroom which is always a bonus point for me.
google avatar

Yaprak A.

Yelp
The staff needs to get hospitality training, immediately. You cannot tell the people "there is no list, you just cue" and then come after 20 mins and say "ok we decided to make a list now". Or if you do, you cannot put the people you know first. You cannot tell people to wait outside in the cold and rain. If the place is small and busy, just get into a reservation system like the rest of the descent places. Breakfast service is not just bringing food to the table. It is the first dish of the day and you have to be nicer to your customers..
google avatar

Jordan W.

Yelp
Easily the worst service I've ever received in any cafe/restaurant in the world. Visited on a Tuesday morning, and to their defence it was busy, however this was not justified by the effort of the staff. We were told to wait 20 minutes for a table, 20 minutes turned to 45, with no effort made by staff to accomodate us. Had we not been vigilant in finding a table, we would probably still be waiting. Once at our dirty and cramped table, we were met with the used cups and plates from the previous customers. Floor staff repeatedly walked past our table, and even took our orders - with absolutely no intention of cleaning it up. After 25 minutes, a staff member - who mind you was constantly sitting down and appeared completely absent from reality - cleaned half of the dishes, leaving us with the other half, meaning I had to take them to the kitchen myself. Awesome. We proceeded to wait at least an hour and fifteen minutes for our food, however only two people at the table were given their food, 15 minutes later another two meals were brought out. The final meal was completely forgotten about, and not made until requested, leaving the last member of our party to eat alone. It is understandable that the venue was busy, however the waitress made absolutely no effort to reciprocate her lack of effort and the incredibly average service we were provided and instead responded with "Well its busy, what do you want me to do about it." As much as I wish this was a joke and I would like to believe she was genuinely raised by wolves, my current state of anger does not allow me to take this on the chin. Food was average, service sucked. I wouldnt go back.

Yelp
A great healthy place for breakfast We really like the smoothie and the ginger tea. Also the dishes are nice. Unfortnatly the poached eggs were overcooked
google avatar

Jennifer H.

Yelp
After having heard about this place fro multiple friends, I needed to try it out. The atmosphere is warm and cosy with a typical Berlin vibe - really really nice. The guys who work here are also very friendly and attentive. The avocado toasts was great and the bread delicious. Unfortunately, the poached eggs where cooked all the way though. The carrot cake bread was also yummy and they serve proper coffee. I think the poached egg was a little mishap, so will definitely we trying it out again.

Yelp
Roamers is the best breakfast place on planet earth! Their food is peace of art and you just don't want to touch and look at it for the rest of your life. I have tried a few dishes so far and they were beyond amazing! The atmosphere is cozy and feels like you"re in country house. This place worth the time and money and yeah this place is the most affordable breakfast place I have ever eaten at.

S. N.

Yelp
Came in around 1, had to wait a couple minutes for a single bar seat. Capacity is maybe 24-ish max? Cortado was excellent, as was the bread. Got the two poached eggs with extra avocados. The "sauce" was more of a spread. Luckily, it was on the side -- I liked the eggs better without. Salad was nice, with chickpeas and some crumbly cheese to the side. Expensive and overpriced for what it is. Style over substance here -- like, it's pretty darn stylish, but still.

Yelp
Awful place with embrassing service and behavior. The food is good but not worth the attitude of the people that work there. We were threatened to order more food after we already had 2 main and 3 cups of coffee (for 2 ppl) and or they will call the police. I was shocked!
google avatar

Stacey H.

Yelp
Totally worth the wait. Second best French toast I've had in the world (first best being Sabrina's Cafe in Philadelphia.) Waited 40 minutes, not bad compared to most trendy brunch places in l.a.! You won't regret it!
google avatar

Sarah H.

Yelp
Sunday brunch... The place is cosy, the food is good, service inexistent. No organisation whatsoever, no prep, no communication, waiting time 1h30. In detail, we sat down at 10am, ordered 3 Bloody Mary then thought on food, after a while someone came to us and asked if someone had taken our ordered yet, to what we answered "No", and he left without taking it. After 5 min we asked that same gentleman if it was possible to place our order to what he answered, "I don't work here, I'm just helping out" and left again. Eventually a few minutes later he came back and took our order. The waitress was off her head, had no idea what was going on in the cafe. Taking coffees without knowing where they were going. Bringing them back, staff drinking it themselves, short of ideas on what to do with it. After 1h30min of waiting, the young lady who was doing service came to us to apologise for the wait and offered coffees, we ordered a strong latte that never made it to our table. Tables were not ready to greet customers, which shows a huge lack of organisation. When we finally asked for the bill, it was brought to us, but no one seemed interested in giving us the change. Being hospo myself, I like to tip, but I would hardly consider tipping the oblivious service we were provided with. On a more practical perspective, if there had been a little more organisation and care the experience could be great, the turnover higher and the business thriving. I came here last summer and had a good memory of it. I will unfortunately not be setting foot there ever again.

Yelp
I dream of Roamer's breakfast every time I go to bed. Hands down, the best breakfast/brunch on planet earth. Super friendly and pleasant staff and very unique atmosphere.

Yelp
Perfect place with breakfast and brunch in the city! Big portion and delicious food! Lets try!
google avatar

Yelp
Had a late breakfast here, we were really impressed by the atmosphere of the place and the varied menu, but most importantly, the food and coffee were amazing. Highly recommended.
google avatar

Grasshopper R.

Yelp
The food looks delicious, but there was such a long line outside that we decided to go elsewhere. A bit turned off by the homogenous (yuppy hipster, American) crowd, which is obviously their target patron.
google avatar

Yelp
First I will explain myself why 3 stars, because they deserve 5 and more, but there is one problem, well they are so cool and hype and almost always crowded especially weekends, and if you want to eat some kind of a breakfast like eggs toast etc, you will need to wait 1-2 hours to get the order, it's very nice of them that they say that so if you are into it you will wait and I'm not good with waiting. They need to do something about that! Maybe bigger kitchen more staff.. And now good things about them. First Staff is super cute and super friendly! Interior is omg, so beautiful insta friendly. And how they served food with love it's so nice to watch, even when some people order it to go they do their deco, soo pretty. Coffee is yummy yummy! And the highlight was cinnamon bun with bacon omg it tasted like heaven waaa gimme more! And we tried bread with peanut butter granola banana whipped cream, sugar overdosed! My tip is order two different things and share with a friend/girlfriend/husband. For sweet stuff you will not wait to long.
google avatar

Esther C.

Yelp
I visited on Tuesday morning around 10:15 and it was already packed! The servers are very accommodating with all customers and tried to seat everyone as soon as possible. The only problem I had was the long wait for food which I would not have normally been bothered by except I had a 12:15 appointment back in the city centre. The wait is already prefaced in the menu with a note "p.s. good things take time". After 1 hour 15 minutes of waiting the food arrived... while it was delicious I was so pressed for time I ate it as fast as I could and headed out 15 minutes later. In short, Roamers is a cute cafe with great food and coffee if you don't mind the long wait or have plans after your meal.

Viktorie V.

Yelp
the best place for a brunch! coffee and food were so delicious, so kind people, thank you
google avatar

Michael W.

Yelp
The presentation of the food was fit for any intense Instagrammer. However, the best part was how the food tasted. The caramelized goat cheese was a very nice touch to a classic egg and salad breakfast.
google avatar

Jasmīna G.

Yelp
Amazing place. All the dishes look mouth watering- rich with healthy ingredients and beautifully presented. The place is very small so might take a while until you get a table but it's worth the waiting:)
google avatar

Dora M.

Yelp
This place is amazing. Lovely ambience and the staff were so friendly and considerate - something rare to see in berlin. The coffee I ordered was delicious. I ordered the sunny side up eggs with salad, hummus and avocado - eggs were cooked perfectly and everything was tasty and satisfying. The bread was crusty and fresh. We waited around 15 mins for a table but the experience was well worth the wait. Next time I will definitely be ordering a cake as they looked incredible and seemed popular.
google avatar

Gaby F.

Yelp
Deliiicciouuusssss, everything on that menu is appetizing. Good pricing and very fair amount of food per plate. It's got a hip and relaxing vibe to it, you'll see lots of youth coming in and out. Only ungraceful thing that I could think of was how long you have to wait usually just to get inside. And cold mornings in Berlin are really rough while waiting to get in for some good, warm food. Must go - they got a cute waiter too with a beard and some tattoos. ;)
google avatar

Yelp
A M A Z I N G!! So good that you NEED to get there early to get a table at this tiny place tucked down a side street from Hermannplatz. My friends and I had arranged to get there for 11.30 but even so there was already a wait list. In the end, we had to table share but that was totally fine as the couple next to us didn't mind. The food service despite the busy-ness was very fast. The food portions exceedingly generous and fair priced. Food quality superb, beautifully presented trays/plates depending on your hunger. The menu has lots of yummy choices but I went for huevos rancheros, which came with salad and thick slabs of wonderfully crusty bread AND avocado extra. My only gripe would be that the ought to be spicier but aside from that it was all very delicious! Decent coffee and wide selection of teas, fresh juices and alcoholic drinks complete the menu. The decor was super stylish and simple too! Great experience will definitely recommend and come back to try the French toast!

Yelp
this nice place in neu-koelln just opened few weeks ago. clean, very friendly, great coffee and delicious sandwiches. -- well done.
google avatar

Sue M.

Yelp
Tasty food, poor service. Friend ordered brunch last weekend-- I got my meal, he never got his due to staff error, then when we reminded them, the waitress said "right away" and it still never came (twice forgotten!). At least my meal was free as compensation, but my friend had to eat elsewhere as we had no time left after spending hours there. Forgetting twice to bring a meal is quite unprofessional service.
google avatar

Jia O.

Yelp
I always come here on Mondays to find out it's closed, in any case, it's a really cozy and cute café in the neighborhood with great coffee and friendly staff. I've never eaten there but the food always looks delicious, it's not a huge place and is generally full (testament to the quality of food and coffee).

Miri I.

Yelp
Beautiful serving and tasty food, the place Has a unique design. Worth a visit when you're traveling in Berlin
google avatar

Diane B.

Yelp
from one slightly jaded nyc food snob, this is pretty much the best brunch on the planet!
google avatar

Barak S.

Yelp
Not the tastiest, nicest or cheapest around...nice to seat outside though. Ok place, nothing more.

Ken P.

Yelp
Had the best omelet but music is a bit indie for me.

Rosa F.

Yelp
Always had delicious food here. The only downside is that they kind of need a bigger place. It's always pretty rammed when I go here now.

Nina M.

Yelp
The service was ok, the place is always crowded so you have to wait a while to get a seat, once you are sitting the crowdedness feels kind of uncomfortable because there is this hecticness around you. I had huevos rancheros and there was only one fried egg (huevos is plural for egg...). The fried egg was served in a pan and the sauce was way to liquid so it was more a huevo rancheros soup. I know what the dish should be like and it is not supposed to be like that. The bread was delicious, but regarding the simpleness of the dish (it's just fried eggs - in this case only one - with tomato-chili sauce and beans) it was really overpriced, because it was not as good as it can be. So I think the place is a bit hyped because of it's interior design. If you want to make nice instagram picture, then that's the place to go. If you want to eat relaxed and have a good price-quality relationship then there are much better places.
