we ordered delivery ion a whole chicken and 2 pieces of fried chicken; this was perhaps the worst chicken I have ever eaten from a place that specializes in chicken; but was also over-priced, largely because each dish required that one include a number of 'sides' none off which were any better than the chicken (well, to be fair, the sweet potato fries and salad were better than the chicken, but the roast potatoes and french fries were even worse than the chicken if that is possible)
let;'s go through this one step at a time; to start with, the chicken itself was awful, the worst kosher chicken i have ever had; the primary problem was, I think, age at slaughter, it was closer to fowl than to a fryer our roaster; the skin was tough and not fully plucked; the tendons were almost impossible to cut through, the meat was tough even though moist...
the preparation was awful: a far too salty rub was slathered on but the chicken was not cooked enough to caramelize it or char the skin; the meat was under cooked and i'd be willing to best that those pinkish parts would not pass health department standards
the three sides included the soggy but tasty sweet potato fries, and inedible roast potatoes (so inundated with rosemary that i washed them off and was going to make potato salad from the remains except that they had been over-roasted; there was a killer amount off pepper as well, but that was not as troubling); and a large and decent iceberg lettuce-based salad which i did not try yet so cannot comment on the dressings ... two were sent, but no description or options were listed on the online menu
the fried chicken suffered from being made with the same sort of aging chicken, but the crust was very crispy at least where it had adhered to the chicken (a problem more on the drumstick than the thigh); it was tasty in theory, but the problems with the skin (thick, tough) and the chicken kind of overwhelmed that promise; the sides were a much smaller salad (why? it was teeny tiny) and the soggiest least crisp french fries i have ever seen; no hint that they had actually seen a fryer
the meal cost $60 with tax and delivery and tip; not crazy since there were 5 sides, but who wanted 5 sides? not me. so I paid $30 for a very bad chicken plus tax and tip ... almost $40
such promise ... so much to be hoped for from a kosher rotisserie place, so many wonderful sides that could have been (does anyone recall the place on Broadway and 86 Street from years past?) ... dashed hopes
