I spent the first leg of my trip at Roatan Backpackers and was so glad I did! The owner, Mel, is incredibly kind and went above and beyond to help me with my journey. I was lucky enough to enjoy her company my first evening in the country along with her very affectionate puppy. The hostel is very beautiful and well maintained and has plenty of different spots to hangout and read a book or socialize with other guests. I would 100% recommend this to anyone staying on the island.

Mel has created an incredible hostel and has an inspiring story behind it. She gave us tons of helpful recommendations that really enhanced our experience. I highly recommend renting a scooter—it’s the best way to explore the area at your own pace. Be sure to bring bug spray, though—the bugs can be pretty intense at times. Overall, the vibes were great—both the place and the people were welcoming and laid-back. The pool was a fantastic bonus, perfect for relaxing after a day of diving.

What a great hostel! A variety of rooms at great prices, a clean well equipped kitchen, and many communal areas (like the fabulous pool) that make it easy to socialize with fellow travelers. The group chat helps coordinate sharing a rental car, going out to explore, finding a snorkel buddy or letting you know a local fisherman is selling his catch. Mel and her excellent staff (yes Donald that includes you) made me feel like part of the family. They know everything and are happy to help you figure out how to get something done, or many times will set it up for you: tours, ferries, diving, renting a scooter or car, transport to from the airport/ferry. Within easy walking distance are a large grocery store, inexpensive local food vendors, multiple snorkeling sites, an air conditioned digital nomad type coffee shop, plus inexpensive, frequent bus and collectivo transport to the busier West End, or anywhere else on the island. I loved staying here and am already working on how to come back.

A variety of rooms that will accomodate any need. Family friendly for those worldschooling or vacationing.|Perfect for Digital Nomads/remote workers as there is strong wifi/starlink and multiple routers to connect to from anywhere at the hostel (even poolside😉).|Mel and the staff are incredibly accomodating and helpful. The ease and convenience of booking, scheduling taxis, and discounts to local activities is unmatched. The option for the group chat enables shared experiences, awesome communication and and opportunity to connect!|The hostel is close to several awesome spots: sushi, cafe with wifi, market, beach, and snorkeling/scuba. And is a quick collectivo ride to the gorgeous West End.|I can't recommend this hostel enough, I already booked another stay next month😊

I love this place. A little slice of paradise tucked into a quiet hideaway. Easy walk to the main road for the collectivo to West End or wherever you want to go. Perfectly clean and well organized. The nicest people stay here. My son-in-law’s family has lived here many generations and he says it’s the best kept secret anywhere near West End. True that. There’s even a beautiful new supermarket a short walk up the road!

The gem of Sandy Bay. Perfectly clean, cozy and cool room in a quiet location away from the noise and crowds yet only a short 5 to 10 minute collectivo ride to West End. New supermarket only a 5 minute walk away. Short walks to beach and to Anthony’s Key Resort. Oldest resort here. I’ve met the friendliest and most interesting people on my stays here. The pool with the waterfall is a joy.

Beautifully landscaped oasis. Warm & inclusive community vibes. Convenient proximity to points of interest while not being directly in the middle of a tourist hub. Owner, staff, and long-term stays were happy to answer questions and offer suggestions. Hope to be able to make it back again soon. This place is truly special and wouldn't trade the experience for anything.

During my recent stay at Roatan Backpackers' Hostel, I had the pleasure of staying in one of their unique converted container rooms. This was an ideal blend of privacy and affordability, and felt like a tranquil retreat without straining my budget. The room was clean and comfortable, offering a cozy haven after days filled with island exploration. The hostel's communal areas were excellent and always tidy, and the pool was in amazing condition, providing a refreshing escape from the tropical heat. Beyond the accommodations, the hostel's atmosphere was warm and inviting. The communal kitchen and dining area had a sense of community among guests, making it easy to connect with fellow travelers. The hostel's location in Sandy Bay offered easy access to local attractions and public transportation to explore the rest of the island. The staff were friendly and helpful, providing valuable insights into local attractions and dining options. Overall, my experience at Roatan Backpackers' Hostel was exceptional, and I look forward to returning on my next visit to the island.
