While the service was not as high as some places in Japan, I think it was perfectly fine. It's nice not to be over serviced sometimes especially when most places in Japan are over the top. The food was quite good overall and atmosphere is like most izakayas: Busy and lively. The pork we got was the only average thing so we probably wouldn't get that again but the other food was delicious. Food was well priced and you MUST get their chicken namban. It was one of the best dishes we had the entire trip. We would go back just for this dish. We tried namban at other places but none of them were nearly as good as this place.

2 stars - A disappointing waste of a precious holiday meal (Read More) Walked in after checking into our hotel, having gone through a half day of travel. We had been turned away from a preferred restaurant as it was just after 7pm. We were seated upstairs, tatami seats. Table seating available on the first floor. Ordering via a chit, where you write the items you want. There English menu comes with serial numbers for each item to make it easier for you. We ordered sashimi, tsukune, chicken kaarage, tofu salad. Everything was just alright. That said, their daily specials (which were well reviewed) had already sold out, so we probably didn’t have their very best. I think there are better options a short walk away, among the small streets between the main road and the train station.

We visited this #izakaya on Friday evening in#Beppu, we were lucky to find a table in #Japanese Room. lt was really convenient. The food was delicious and prices were reasonable. Service was good.

Imagine a pub like atmosphere with Japanese izakaya on the menu. Try the beef ribs and any of the grilled fish options 👌🏼 It was a bit hard to get the staff’s attention on a busy night. No English menu.

Managed to get a reservation here just a few hours before dinner after reading the great reviews! So thankful they could squeeze us in because the food and service was superb. The place was pretty packed and we were seated on the third floor - the waiter who was serving us was so pleasant despite being super busy and could converse in some English. They also have an English menu (tho prices are outdated but not a big issue) which was helpful Everything we ordered was really good - from the sashimi to the grilled onigiri, chicken tempura (amazing!), grilled sea bream head (so fresh and tasty).. We were also surprised by how affordable everything was given how much we ordered, and spent around 2200 yen/pax including drinks!

The *best* Izakaya we’ve ever eaten at in Japan. From the local charcoal grilled beef and pork spareribs, fresh local vegetables, and sashimi - everything was so good. It was so good we ate here two nights in a row as there was so much we wanted to try. We could’ve eaten everything on the menu if we had larger stomachs. It’s a super popular place though so definitely make a reservation or it is likely to be full - especially if it’s a weekend. They do have an English menu but for the daily specials take a photo of the chalkboard and use Google Translate

We came here for two days. If you don’t have reservations, probably you need wait 10-20 mins at least. It’s very local Robata restaurant, and people like here. The 1st day we came here, we got delicious grill set and local fish sashimi with cold Japanese sweet sake. All of dishes we like and we decided to try others in 2nd day. It’s lucky we had reservation in 2nd day, and met a couple of Japanese friends. They are really friendly, and bought sparkling drinks and japanese alcohol to us. It was close to the lady’s birthday of the couples, we bought a dessert to them. Chat a long time and the whole night was happy. Good luck to see a Japanese waitress and a Chinese waiter, they are all friendly. The chef in the grill bar is very nice as well. We really like Robata Jin in beppu. Cheers 🍻

Yelp
Robata jin was recommended by the lovely staff at our hostel since we arrived in Beppu rather late. Luckily, they had orders until 10:30 or 11pm. We had to wait a little bit on a Saturday night, but were later seated upstairs in a small Japanese style room with a barrier between us and another rather loud party. Perusing the menu, everything was in Japanese, but we were able to figure out the specials and menu items. We actually ordered quite a bit of food, as well as drink. Toriten: Chicken tempura was our favorite. It comes with six chicken tempura and is a bit lighter and crispier than the typical karaage/fried chicken. Pretty sure for the four of us, we ordered 4 plates of this. So worth it. Sashimi: Unfortunately I forget what kinds of fish we ordered, I think one was saba/mackerel...in any case, it was very fresh, and I really enjoyed the raw fish Mix salad: quite nice, comes with baby corn, and bomb sesame dressing Spare ribs: another one of our favorites; tender ribs that we couldn't keep our hands off Vegetable tempura: a bit less of a proportion than we were expecting but comes with mushroom, squash, tomato, and okra with a green powder for dipping Yuukyuu: Recommended to order, and had a decent amount of fish with shiso leaf and nori; probably even better than the sashimi we had They have a great selection of fish as well as shochu and Nihonshu (potato wine and Japanese rice wine), though for the majority of the meal we were set with a big size of beer - we are talking as big as your face, big. It was quite a deal. If coming here on a weekend during the evening, I would definitely suggest making a reservation. The service was subpar for Japan...the waitress repeatedly had to clarify what we ordered and looked confused when we were trying to speak to her in Japanese. We were also sort of rushed out a bit before midnight, though we didn't really want to move after our feast. I would still come here again when visiting Beppu though. So yummy. And that toriten and spareribs though...deeeelish
