An Autumnal Road Trip Through Alsace Wine Country

"The map and resources at Alsace Wine Route are a terrific way to discover wineries along your journey, but kick things off with a free tasting at nearby Robert Blanck. You don’t have to leave with a bottle, but you will—we suggest the full-bodied Pinot Gris."

Nice wine tasting experience - you get to select 6 wine samples for 10 euro. They pour a little bit (around 25ml) for you to try and understand the wine. The wines themselves were pretty good - maybe not exceptional but certainly decent and at fair price points. They did not have any grand crus but they had some late harvest samples. The lady was very welcoming and spoke some English which was enough to understand their wines

Pay 10EUR for wines tasting for 6 different wines. If you buy above certain amount, they may waive your wine tasting charges.

Had a lovely experience at Robert Blanck Alsace Wines. We visited when they opened after lunch without a reservation and had a tasting of 6 wines. The staff were super friendly and let us have a look at the cellar despite not being part of a tour. They also had a friendly dog that loved the attention! We purchased the Riesling and Auxerrois. Would recommend!

We had a lovely experience here. The wines were very interesting flavours but the real highlight was seeing the wine cave and learning so much about the wine making process.

One of the best experience my husband and I had when we are in france. Manage to also visited their cellar filled with oak barrels. The wines are just fantastic! If they shipped to my country, I would buy cartons of it! My husband who was not a white wine drinker also love the white selections too! Smoothest riseling I ever drank! A must visit!

Fantastic history and an amazing opportunity to meet the 16th generation wine maker. She is producing some amazing wines. We enjoyed the Pinot Gris so much we shipped a case home.

The wine shop is about 5 minutes drive from Obernai city center. You can park the car in front of the shop. More than a decade, once I got a dozen bottle of wine from Obernai and could remember the unique taste of them. As I planned to visit Germany, Obernai became one of my destination. We arrived there around 10-11 am, several customers are already there with the wine tasting. After we asked about the recommendation for the sweet wine information, we were invited to taste the wine by ourselves. We were served with a collection of the best sweet wine of the house including Pinot Gris, Muscat, Gewurztraminer and Riesling. The taste and smell of Obernai wine is very unique and unforgettable.

Extremely friendly staff. Helped us identify a place we could go and sit and enjoy a wine picnic in the country

Yelp
We came to Vins d'Alsace Robert Blanck as part of a Viking Rhein River Cruise excursion. Our bus trip from the boat took about 25 mins and our coach was upscale and very modern. We found it be a nice opportunity to see the countryside. The tour was given by the adult daughter of the winery's owner. She was very knowledgeable and warm, while taking time to answering all of our questions. We started off in the wine cellar and ended upstairs tasting several of their wines. Unlike American tours, we sat in small comfortable tables, with both water and pretzels to cleanse our palates. Very cliché and relaxing We came away very impressed, along with a few bottles and some pâté for our trip.

Yelp
Lovely 16th generation family owned vineyard. This estate makes only white wine and brut blanc (you can't call it "champagne " unless it's from that region of France). We were given a tour of the cellar where we got to see all the old wine barrels and learned about how long the wine takes to make, how the barrels are cleaned and how the vines grew. Also learned how the bubbles are added to make the brut blanc (they use the champagne process) and how the yeast is removed. Very nice tour. The host who gave us the presentation was one of the daughters of the family estate.

Yelp
While on a Viking Rhine cruise we had the option to go into Alsace and visit a winery. Monsieur Blanck was the consummate host. He carefully explained the history of his family winery and taught us all so much about the differences in the wines from the Alsace region. We sampled four delicious wines including one cremant which is champagne from the region. The tour included the cellar which had the most amazing casks, one dating back 250 years which had the most incredible carving of a man on the face of it. Additionally many of the other casks had large carvings of faces, animals and castles at the spigots. I will try to upload the photos from the cellar. I have been to the champagne cellars in Reims on two occasions, Napa valley in California many times and wineries in my former home state of Missouri and have found none better than Robert Blanck. We are planning our trip for next year to the Strasbourg to Basel wine region down Le Rue de Vignes, and will make sure we stop in again to this very special place.
