On the Grid : Upper Treman State Park

"Everyone knows about Lower Treman State Park, with its campsites and swimming hole, but the real gem is the Upper Park. Drive past the lower park entrance and wind your way up to the Upper entrance on the same road. From there you can visit the old mill with exhibits detailing the history of the park area, picnic in the shaded glen, or take a brisk hike into the gorge where you will be wowed by the majesty of approaching the 115 foot Lucifer Falls from the top cliff. The trail offers several options - walking all the way down to the lower park or circling below Lucifer Falls and climbing up the other side of the gorge, my family's favorite. Fair warning: the stairs are a little vertigo-inducing." - St. John Design Group

Starting from the Old Mill, the Gorge Trail is an unforgettable hike through some of the most stunning natural scenery in the region. The trail winds along dramatic rock formations carved by centuries of water flow, with cascading waterfalls and lush greenery at every turn. The stone steps and ledges offer breathtaking views—but also call for good, sturdy shoes, as the terrain can be uneven and slippery in spots. This is a mild to moderate hike that rewards every step with visual splendor. The sound of rushing water and the cool shade of the gorge make it a refreshing escape on a warm day. Whether you're an avid hiker or just out for a scenic walk, this trail is a must-see.

Google
One of my favorite places to hike and swim. Swim was closed when we went but love the fact you can climb on the waterfall face. Trails are well maintained but rim trail has a steep climb with lots of steps best to go down rim trail from the top of park. Gorge trail has lost a few viewing areas due to growth of vegetation since I started visiting here over the past 30+ years. Wish they still had the area at the front to drive through the water to get to camping area. Lots of childhood memories playing down there.

Google
Did the Lucifer Falls hike while I was at this park, it is a 5 ish mile round trip hike and after having travelled all over the country visiting national parks and hiking, this is potentially the most beautiful hike I have been on. Truly the falls and ravines are incredible and hard to capture in photos (although I did try). Not an easy hike, probably a high moderate hike, but totally worth every step. The 'top' of the hike is a second parking lot location with a beautiful old waterwheel mill/museum with free bathrooms and drinking fountains. 10/10 would recommend

Google
Hiked the Rim and Gorge trail both on 4/28. Its start of the summer waterfalls are good but not at peak. Trees are not green yet so not the best time yet but still worth a nice workout. My recommendation: Rim trail is good hike under the woods but not that amazing as the Gorge trail. Gorge trail is amazing from start to end. However the best views are in the top Half of the trail. So if you have less time or dont need a challenging Hike then i would recommend to start from the top of the trail and then there is a bridge on the trail that connects to Gorge and Rim Trail. it will let you cover best of the both half the time and effort ;) Conditions: Muddy Parking: Entry fee, Free, Medium lot Difficulty: Hard

Google
AMAZING, clean well kept trails, clean bathrooms at top and bottom of trail, great views. I recommend wearing hiking boots or shoes, some muddy spots and slightly slippery surfaces, but overall an extremely enjoyable hike. Be prepared for several sets of stairs one of which is 100 steps.

Google
Absolutely beautiful park. Stayed for a few days and they kept the grounds and the facilities clean. Playgrounds for the kids were so helpful when setting up our camping site. the swimming area is clean and tons of fun with the diving board! Can't wait to visit again next year.

Google
A really cool and unique experience! The water was chilly but so refreshing! I would hike the upper end but drive to the lower end to swim afterwards.

Google
Do not miss this walk when in the falls area. . Hands down the more picturesque of the trails in the area if you love natural geology. We did lucifer falls from the upper parking lot going down the gorge trail. We needed to save time and had a member in our party that was not a hiker we needed to accommodate. Trail was easy, lots of steps but nothing to bad, all worth it to see the glory of the region.

Yelp
Beautiful park and great swimming. I have been multiple times over 20 years. Went to take my kids to Buttermilk, but drove an hour to find swimming closed (I swear the website said open). Truman park was PACKED in the parking lot for swimming. Life guards were attentive and respectful. The bathrooms were closed right by swimming- I'm hoping for cleaning, but made for some unhappy kids to walk way over to the 2 stall bathrooms. They survived and the bathrooms closer were open when we left.

Yelp
Beautiful falls and swimming areas. Love going there every year. Wish the bathrooms were cleaner...

Yelp
As a park, Robert H Treman is still five stars. The hike is beautiful and the swimming hole is a blast. A must-do if you're in the Finger Lakes. As far as the camping goes, it's great for easy guaranteed access to the swimming hole, but leaves a lot to be desired for such a popular destination. Three stars for camping is probably generous. Supposedly we had one of the older bathhouses when we camped at Letchworth last year, but I was happy with it. It was clean, and I liked that there was an enclosed space for your belongs just before the shower. Very much a treat for someone who previously only experienced rustic camping with outhouses only. The bathhouse and especially the restrooms nearest our campsite at Robert H Treman were nowhere near as nice as Letchworth, and very dirty. There was a mess in the ladies room by our campground, and all they did was put a wet floor warning. It was never cleaned the three days we were there, and I have no idea how long it was there before. Also, baby millipedes everywhere. I can only hope the cabins are better maintained than the restrooms. My husband wasn't happy about a noisy camper with awful bright blue lights that stayed on all night, and found people less considerate than Letchworth over all in terms of honoring quiet hours, but that's probably just luck of the draw. Regardless, you're better off staying somewhere else and coming in the morning or early evening to avoid the heaviest crowds in the afternoon. The parking lot for the swimming hole seemed a lot less busy in the evening.

Yelp
This is an extremely beautiful place!! There are stone staircases and waterfalls. It's unbelievably gorgeous!!
google avatar

Brad M.

Yelp
A short walk from the parking lot leads you to the soothing sounds of Lucifer Falls, located in Robert Treman Park. We also noticed cabins nearby that might be available for rent. When the water level is high, a diving board is attached to the deeper pool, adding to the fun. The fish inside are quite large, making it a unique and fascinating spot to visit.

Yelp
Beautiful! We were enjoying a day of chasing waterfalls and ended up here. The walk to Lower Falls was easy to do from the parking lot. They were still setting up for the swimming area, and it was neat to see how it was underway. We would have loved to actually go swimming, so we're going to have keep that in mind for next time! It's neat that they have this option - it seems like so many waterfalls have hidden dangers in the pools that it's nice that they can take advantage of the formation of this one. It offers a nice picnic area with tables in a wooded area too.

Yelp
I entered by the old mill and really enjoyed this park. We did the rim to gorge trail loop that's around a mile. It took us about an hour but we stopped a lot to take pictures. I thought the hike was enjoyable with some challenging steps. Lucifer Falls is absolutely beautiful. Compared to Watkins Glen this is much smaller but I enjoyed it more because it far less crowded and I could really enjoy it. There are even some slot waterfalls similar to Watkins Glen. If you go to Watkins Glen this is about 30 minutes away and a good add on to that trip. I visited in July and thought that even though it was hot there was enough shade that it was still enjoyable. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Came here about a month ago to go to Watkins Glen, but they were closed from the recent rainstorm, so we ended up here instead. Some of the most beautiful hiking trails I've been on both ends of the park. We checked out the Lower Falls, Enfield Glen, where there's a natural swimming hole. We then drove to the Upper entrance and hiked down to see Lucifer Falls, passing by the eye opening scenic views of the gorge by taking the Gorge Trail. Parking is about $10, but save the receipt if you want to just drive to the other parking lot in this park. Carry bug spray and water.
google avatar

Salma C.

Yelp
Picturesque hike with amazing waterfalls. We took the Gorge Trail. Make sure to bring bug spray as you will pass by tons of insects. Although a heavily uphill hike, seeing Lucifer Falls was worth it. Another great New York State park in the Finger Lakes region.

Yelp
Beautiful spot for a fall hike. There are some great viewpoints to see the foliage. If you want a short bit fairly strenuous hike (lots of stairs), park at the upper lot and take the gorge trail down and cross the bottom of the bridge below the falls, then take the rim trail back up to your car. For a longer hike I would park at the bottom to do the full loop. That way you end on a downhill. If stairs are not your thing, park at the bottom and walk to the small waterfall where the swimming hole is or park at the top and take the gorge trail to the top of the waterfall, then turn around before you hit all the stairs. I will definitely be back to this park!

Yelp
wow lower falls are a bucket list experience on a peak color October day well worth $9 entry fee

Yelp
This is such a great park! Clean, not crowded, and plenty to do and see. We parked our airstream at Camp site# E004 with 30amp electric hookup which was great on the hot summer night being able to run the AC. Walking distance to the play grounds, hiking trails and swimming area this place had a verity of things to keep us busy. Add to that the close proximity to Ithaca's downtown area to eat and check out this was the perfect spot to get away.

Yelp
A lovely park that has a gorge trail along the water and the rim trail on top of the cliffside. The lower areas are where most people go first. The upper area has another parking area that includes a parking fee machine. Carry in, carry out park at the moment. You can see the rainbow trout in the river and the waterfalls and the large pool close to the lower falls is a popular swimming area when open. There are three pavilions you can rent, too. There are 9 miles of trails and some areas still under repair, so if it is rainy or wet, it could be very slippery. We also saw a snake on the trail so be careful. I love the area to the upper falls where you have stone walkways and a bridge that remind me of walking through valleys and traveling like the Fellowship of the Ring. The shale and stone here is fragile, so be careful of falling rock and don't throw stones down as people may be in the lower area below you. $8 parking if you don't have the empire pass. About 0.5mi from the upper lot is a crossover to the stairways and overlooks if you don't want to hike all the way down 2+ miles back and forth. Best water is around the spring when the winter melt occurs.

Yelp
An absolutely magical place to visit. There is nothing like jumping off the diving board into the chilling water streaming down from a waterfall. The history of the Civilian Conservation Corps building this site adds to the uniqueness of the park. The pool was low this year due to the lack of rain which made it easier for my 3 year old nephew to wage in. The trails are so beautiful and varied. An annual spot we visit on summer trips back home to Ithaca.
google avatar

Colette H.

Yelp
This is hands down my favorite place to hike. I've been coming here for 20+ years to hit up the trails and check out the amazing waterfall views. I love it here! You can use the first entrance (main entrance) and go for a 3 mile hike to the falls. Or, you can go in the back entrance (second entrance off of the main road), and take a shorter walk to Lucifer Falls. I love coming back here year round to see the iced over falls and the sights at all times of the year. I'll definitely be back here again soon!
google avatar

Yelp
I didn't really understand the whole "Ithaca is GORGES" schtick until I went to Treman State Park. Simply breathtaking. You don't even need to walk very far to see beautiful views, babbling brooks and little falls along the way. It's so picturesque and the air is so fresh; I'll never forget visiting it back when I lived in nyc and remarking on how fresh the air was. Don't be intimidated by the 4.5 hour hikes, I mean, that's also available if you're into that, but if you're more of a 10 minute walk kind of person you'll get views too!
google avatar

Yelp
This is a very special state park. The main reason I go is for the swimming when ever I visit Upstate NY in the summer. A French family was swimming under the falls and I don't speak French but I understood one word the father said to the son "magnifique". Magnifique in any language pretty much sums up this park.
google avatar

Hunter S.

Yelp
In my opinion, this is so much more beautiful than Ithaca Falls proper. The falls (lower falls and Lucifer falls) are much more impressive. The lower falls are easy to get to, and right off the lower parking lot. Lucifer Falls is off the upper parking lot, and if you want to reach them from the lower parking lot, it's a two mile hike. The hikes here are moderate at best. Lots of hills and steps, but I'd you're able, so worth it. Tons of wildlife, chipmunks, squirrels, deer, lizards, arachnids, snakes etc. Gorgeous scenery, and lots of smaller waterfalls along the way. Lot of stone steps, so one must be careful to not slip. I took the gorge trail from the bottom parking lot. I also took part of the rim trail, which was chock full of steep steps. If you have the stamina, I recommend this spot, particularly the gorge trail.

Yelp
Must visit park when visiting Ithaca! Great views, great waterfalls, awesome hike, sweet swimming spot in the summer time, cool picnic areas, cabins to stay in, you cannot go wrong with whatever choice you make to experience this park! It is a great hike around the upper rim. There are quite a few changes in elevation as you hike down one side of the rim and back the other. I love that they had these signs that showed you the changes in elevation, what you have already experienced and also what is to come. With the pandemic going on they have the hike one way so that everyone goes in the same direction as they move around the upper rim which is helpful. While I have not experience it myself, I would love to come back in the summer and enjoy the swimming area at the base of a waterfall! There are only a couple of geocaches in the large park, but if you are a cacher I recommend grabbing a couple caches but also spending a lot of time exploring this awesome park!

Yelp
This is one of my favorite state parks that I've been to not only in NY, but also the entire U.S. It's always so beautiful there and the gorges are incredible. It's amazing what Mother Nature can do over thousands and thousands of years! I've been fortunate to have gone here a lot over the last few years, because my fiancé's grandparents lived just around the corner from the park. Her grandpa even taught swimming lessons there. Such an amazing park and a "can't miss" if you are around the Ithaca area!

elizabeth l.

Yelp
A great family friendly place to visit, swim, picnic, hike, and enjoy quality family time. Camping is good too. Quiet. Close to stores if you need things as well as just beautiful. The land all around from lower Treman to upper!

Carly K.

Yelp
Beautiful falls, trails and swimming locations. Super happy with this park every time we visit.

Yelp
Not going to lie but I thought I was going to die hiking Robert Treman Park at 6 months pregnant. It's a 4 mile hike back and forth if you take the gorge trail (which I recommend is the scenic route). The steps were so steep and it took us about 3.5-4 hours to hike because I needed to take a water break. But was it worth it.... ABSOLUTELY. The giant waterfall at the end was stunning.
google avatar

ZhuZhu L.

Yelp
It's very dry this year and the gorge looks very shallow. Swimming under the waterfall is awesome!

Yelp
A friend recommended me this as a good park to visit. Let me tell you this, I went into this unprepared. I recommend if you're going to come here, make sure you pack food and lots of water. The park is broken down by multiple trails. They have a main trail that is 3 miles to the bottom of the hill and 3 miles back on the other side of the hill. We could have did it right but made a wrong turn. We traveled the 3 miles to the parking lot, and another 3 miles back on the other side. This took us about 2 hours and some time. We were dehydrated when we returned. What I will say this place had an amazing views, maybe some of the best views that I've ever seen in person. It was incredible and worth it all.
google avatar

Ashley B.

Yelp
Wow this park is beautiful. So many waterfalls and little streams that it made the air all around the trail cool and misty. I loved every minute of the hike. Its super high elevation (900 ft peak) and beautiful scenic stops make this hike one I would do a thousand times over. It also has a couple of places where you can swim (if a lifeguard is on duty) and where you can sip your feet in.
google avatar

Jamie H.

Yelp
After spending 5 beautiful days here, I'd have to say this is one of my favorite state parks. Although it not my favorite camp-site layout, our site was exceptional and may be the only one I book moving forward. The water was a chilly 62 degrees but felt amazing after a 5 1/2 hour hike around the rim and Gorge trails. Everyone was great with the social distancing and the bathrooms were closed and sanitized twice a day.
google avatar

Rebecca W.

Yelp
Five out of five! When we arrived at this park, it was a bit later in the afternoon and pretty quiet. There is a restroom facility at the beginning of the trail, near the creek. As you follow the creek down the beautiful path, you instantly become one with nature. The further you go, it becomes like something straight out of a fairytale. Layers upon layers of stone surrounds you and the rushing water of the gorge is all you hear. Plants that have grown over and around the rocks soften the setting. As you walk further down there is a set of stairs before the waterfall. This is a beautiful place as well. Honestly, the path was more amazing than the waterfall itself. I recommend you trace your steps back rather than crossing the bridge and going up the many many steps on the other side of the falls. I highly recommend coming here and spending some time. You can swim at the bottom of the falls and I believe there is another parking lot down there. FYI there is really not much cell reception out here, if any. Be sure to take notes on which roads you originated on - like Hansel and Gretel.

Yelp
I was able to visit this park with friend while I was visiting Ithaca, New York. What a beautiful place. Our walk was along the water with lots of steps and hills. Beautiful views. At the end of our walk, we actually saw a swimming area which looked like a lot of fun. We didn't have our bathing suits and it was kind of a cool day. Definitely a must go to if you're in that the Ithaca area. Note there is an entrance fee.
google avatar

Nathan K.

Yelp
Had an absolutely phenomenal time here with my grand kids! Dirk (my youngest grandson) has been studying the different types of waterfalls because of my influence! I decided to take him to Enfield (one of my personal favorites) as a birthday gift. Such fond memories we created!
google avatar

Shari S.

Yelp
A colleague recommended this park and trail, stating it was a "mildly easy hike that is quick" so I didn't think much of it. Well he either hates me or has unlimited stamina or I am extremely out of shape. I came totally unprepared in the middle of the afternoon with only a little bottle of water and inappropriate sneakers. After making it about halfway and huffing and puffing up the steps, I had to turn back. Next time I will come at the crack of dawn, slather on sunscreen, and bring loooots of water and hiking shoes. Gorgeous views though, and lovely waterfalls. The lower waterfall would be a great area to cool off after going up and down those steps. Parking is $9.
google avatar

Elias J B.

Yelp
Home of Lucifer Falls--which is beautiful and breathtaking! The trek is worth it to get the falls! Just GO!
google avatar

Maureen D.

Yelp
Not as popular as Watkins Glen but just as beautiful. One trail goes along the gorge. The trail back is marked moderate but I would say at time strenuous with tons of hills and stairs. Beautiful park. No crowds
google avatar

Jenna L.

Yelp
Another beautiful state park in Ithaca. $7 to get in. This state park is probably the biggest I've been to. They have tons of camping areas & cabins. The trails are miles long and very challenging at some points. We hiked up the gorge trail from the lower park entrance. We hiked 2 miles in and didn't even make it to Lucifer falls. We ended up turning around because my friend was tired & we were starving lol. At some spots you're hiking up a 80 degree angle. I suggest wearing sneakers or hiking boots with GOOD GRIP. We came on the day where the swimming hole was being open to the public so the park was pretty busy but if you walk along the trail there are plenty of gorges you can hike down to swim in with less people. I suggest starting at the upper park entrance because I think Lucifer falls is closer from that side. Beautiful park & waterfalls. Watch out for snakes! Will definitely be back!
google avatar

Rose P.

Yelp
Stunning; Easy to traverse and if you enter from the upper entry point it's a simple walk to magnificence. There is one particular band that reveals the most stunning Vista and the drop.
google avatar

Kami S.

Yelp
We have been here twice, once in the summertime and again this Fall. First time we did the entire hike. It was a moderate hike filled with many waterfalls finally leading up to the best one, Lucifer Falls. The falls will always be more spectacular depending how much rain they get that year. If you just want to get to the best part and skip the long hike you can park at the upper parking lot and do the short loop that takes you to Lucifer and back again. A must do hike if you are in the Finger Lakes
google avatar

Franklin M.

Yelp
If you love parks and hiking then don't miss the opportunity to visit this gem. We didn't have too much time but enjoyed every minute we were here. The views at every turn are amazing and so picturesque you will want to take selfies everywhere.
google avatar

Akira S.

Yelp
This is a beautiful state park with great trails to choose from. We took our dog and went on the gorge trail to Lucifer falls. It was an amazing hike with wonderful views and waterfalls along the way. There were signs warning that it was a difficult trail, so we were a bit worried because we aren't very experienced hikers and it was our first hike with our dog. The first quarter mile was uphill and it was a bit of a trek, but that was the hardest part. The remainder of the trail wasn't bad at all and had nice openings out onto the water where our dog could cook off in the water. I would highly recommend this park.
google avatar

Ramon V.

Yelp
What is there not to love about this place. Being from flat Florida we don't have a whole lot of waterfalls so for us this park was amazing. The lower falls is pretty cool and this is where people can swim during certain times (it was closed to swimming when we were there during the week) . However I found the most spectacular views were not at the lower falls but rather on the trail that takes you from the upper falls to the lower falls (or vice versa). If you have never seen anything like this before like us, then there is a part just after starting the trail heading down where you turn a corner and it's like some serious land of the lost shit going on there! None of the pictures do it justice you just have to come see it. Do note it's a hike! Especially if you're an out of shape sack of rice and beans like me. It's only 2 miles but it's a 2 mile long stair case. If you want to do the whole thing I would say start at the lower falls and do the 2 miles up when you are rested, then go back down. If you do t want to do the whole thing I recommend starting the trail at the top and go down as far as your comfortable, knowing what you have to go back up. Then just drive to the lower falls to see that. Also it was free when we came on a Friday late September.

Yelp
Robert H Treman is probably my favorite park in the NYS park system (so far) because it is just so unbelievably beautiful. I love every bit of this park from it's incredible waterfall Lucifer Falls, geological carving in the gorge, flowing water and swimming holes throughout, and the incredible variety of nature and animals found all throughout the park. This is I feel like a slightly less known about park (which I love) and definitely one for a true hiker. The gorge trail is just fantastic featuring lots of ups and downs and the rim trail is equally breathtaking with an amazing vista overlooking Lucifer Falls. Not to be missed is a view of the valley (especially in the fall) from the stone steps on the rim trial. it's absolutely beautiful here in almost every way. There is also a natural swimming area here in the lower waterfall and part of the park which is super fun to cool off in after a long summer hike. In the North end of the park you'll find the historical grain mill and some information about the settlements of the park land before it became a part of the NYS park system. This place is an absolute must visit when near Ithaca and I make it a point to come numerous times a year to enjoy it's scenic beauty!

Yelp
Gorgeous pari, beautiful waterfalls and scenery. There's a significantly steep portion so be prepared to hike a bit if you want to get to the top. Alternatively, you can park at the top and then walk down and have someone pick you up at the bottom. The old sawmill at the top is also very interesting.

Yelp
How can you rate this beautiful, accessible park any less than as good as it gets? Nicely laid out with a generous parking area by the restrooms. A good way to put those in your mind for then, and for later if the need arises. They are clean and well maintained. This was late summer in early September. Trees were still full and green. Water was running, but not gushing. We missed that deluge by a week and now things had calmed down and the grounds were fairly dry. Mild weather, so off we went. A number of trails, some looping and others out and back. We took the longer out and back and most of that walk are captured in the photos accompanying this listing on Yelp! Just beautiful. We did encounter a few obese people who had tried the walk, but had to turn around. Handicappers would have difficulties with the stone steps carved out along the trails, so be mindful. There are some steep, but manageable sections. Lots of look outs and places to just pull over from the trail so you could rest &/or allow other groups to pass you. Photo opportunities abound and many people either asked us to take a photo or offered to take ours. A nice park seems to draw nice people. No refreshments other than a few water fountains near the parking lots. Need to bring your own water on the trails. There is a swimming area, but we did not use it on this trip. We did years ago with our sons and it was pretty neat to swim beneath the falls and to walk the rocks sometimes behind the falls. Vehicle admission was $8.

Yelp
This is probably one of the best state parks NY has to offer. They have camping, public swimming, picnic tables, and lots of trails. You go for the waterfalls though! There are 12 sets of them in this one park. Starting with the Lower Falls near the entrance ($8, but you can use your camping pass, state park pass, or if you pay at another park that same day it is valid). The Lower Falls are where you can swim, and are more easily accessible for those traveling with families, strollers, or elderly. The Rim trail is exceedingly more challenging than the Gorge trail, which is about 1.5 miles. If you start at the Lower Falls, I highly recommend pressing on and doing the gorge trail, where you can get to the Lucifer Falls on the other side of the park. The Lucifer falls are 115 feet high, and breathtaking. At the end of this trail, there is an old Mill museum. There are some people that go in the gorge, but this park I choose to wear my actual hiking boots, or quality sneakers. They won't get wet like some other glens. Dogs are welcome on leashes.

Yelp
This is a beautiful state park and I think not as popular as the nearby Watkins Glen which is an added advantage! ;) For best rewards while hiking, start your hike at the upper falls which are truly spectacular and then you can hike a part of the gorge and return by crossing a bridge over to the other side, probably a one mile round trip. For a longer hike (4 miles), you can continue on to the lower falls. Be warned though, there are a fair amount of stairs which make for a good workout. But the hike is beautiful and the lower falls are also worth seeing. If you're in the finger lakes area and need to burn all those extra calories after days of binging on wine and cheese, this is a great place to do that! :)

Yelp
Definitely worth a stop. Amazing waterfall and scenery. Not as many tourists on the trail as I thought there would be. It seems like everyone just parks themselves at the swimming area and doesn't budge. If the swimming doesn't interest you, I suggest approaching from the other side (north entrance?) and hiking down the falls trail that way - a lot less people on that end, and there's plenty of scenery to take in. Parking was $8 and good all day at the state parks. Swimming area might be a little tough to find parking during primetime, but we didn't have any trouble anywhere else.

Yelp
Great place to go to on a hot summers. Bring watershed, bottom surface is all rock. Beautiful scenery and it cools you off when the weather is hot hot hot. And yes, there are Park fees.

Yelp
What a cute park. My boyfriend and I with our two dogs camped here for a weekend. The sites were a decent size but no privacy between the sites. The bathrooms were so clean and new. They even had areas to plug in hair dryers with full mirrors and shelves. There is only one shower house so that walk isn't the best. I suggest if you bring dogs to come prepared. The ground is just rock so there is no way to screw cork screw chains into the ground. Also there is no grass at the sites for dogs to use the bathroom on so when they pee it forms a puddle instead of seeping into the ground. We went on a few potty walks to the playground where there was grass. We also did the big trail walks and the dogs loved it. Just be cautious the paths are small so be prepared to step aside without falling down a hill.

Yelp
Quite frankly, this is one of my favorite State Parks period. I grew up at this park, spending most of my childhood here almost daily during the summer and just had the opportunity to come back and camp here with my daughter so she could experience it. My dad was a lifeguard here and it is where he met my mom. So enough of my nostalgia, let's get down to details. Very few electrical sites, this is old school camping. Think old school family camping when you were a kid. Huge campsites with most of them well shaded. The bathrooms are large and I loved that they had a large cast iron sink with a large shelf next to it so you could bring in your dishes, great for those not in a giant RV. Nice centrally located playground for the kids. You can also rent small camping cabins as well. Very rustic and quaint, love 'em! Now on to the swimming area. It simply doesn't get any better than this. A short walk from the campground or the main entrance parking lot, and you have a large swimming area. And not just any average swimming hole, but a swimming hole flanked by a beautiful waterfall that you can swim up to. Literally one of my favorite places to be. Once you become bored with your peaceful campsite and swimming up to the waterfall, you can take one of several hiking trails. The Gorge trail is the one to do. A little over 2 miles which will take you to 'Upper Treman' where you can take a rest and tour the Old Mill. The Gorge trail is a good hike and a great way to take in some serious natural beauty. Whether it's the beautiful stone bridge across the gorge, watching the water flow over small waterfalls throughout the gorges or taking in all of Lucifer Falls, it's some breathtaking scenery. Sorry, I geeked out a bit. This park kicks ass, go here, enjoy it!
