If you're looking for the classic B&B experience you can't go wrong with the Robert Ruark Inn. The owners were kind, helpful, and had a genuine interest in us enjoying our stay. They provided useful insights into local restaurants, shops, and things to do, and offered to drive us wherever we wanted to go in their street-legal golf cart. Of course you can always borrow their bikes if you'd rather pedal yourself around!
The house, a beautiful Victorian, had high ceilings, nice decor, and was cool despite the humidity and heat of Southport. The room was comfortable, quiet, and sufficiently spacious. There's a lovely deck and garden area for outdoor seating.
The food was fantastic. Our two-night stay featured the following: lots of fresh fruit, real whipped cream, maple syrup, bread pudding, bacon, sausage, quiche, fresh-squeezed juice, coffee, and tea. The owners were very considerate of a food allergy in my group, always a nice touch. Wine and various desserts are available in the evening for snacking. Overall a lovely experience!
