Beautiful, quaint, bed and breakfast located within walking distance of Southport’s shopping and dining district. The breakfast was plated beautifully and was so delicious! The shower in the Virginia room is worth the trip as well as the decor. Ruark is a famous author and used to spend summers here with his grandfather. I will definitely return in the near future ♥️

Great Host that attended to us. The house has several areas to relax, read, and chat with your companion. Our room and bathroom was spacious and clean, also bed was very comfortable.

After reading a past review about reservation confusion, I called to confirm my upcoming stay but Linda couldn't find the reservation. I had the confirmation email from when I made the reservation 7 months ago and texted her a picture of the email. Upon Linda doing some digging, she discovered that the reservation was canceled, which I never did, and I was never notified. Unbeknownst to me, and not evident when making reservations, the Robert Ruark Inn doesn't open until April. My reservation was late March. If you make a reservation during a "closed" period, the reservation does go thru, and then the system eventually cancels with no notification to you, and you are never the wiser until you either show up, like the prior reviewer, or call to confirm. Luckily I called in advance and I was able for find an alternative B&B in Southport and we had a great time. With all the recommendations on Robert Ruark Inn, my only advice is to confirm your reservation in advance of arriving.

I can’t say what I think about the rooms, the accommodations or food because I never got to complete my reservation. My husband and I took a two hour drive for what we planned to be a relaxing weekend to find the establishment closed. Check in was 5:00 but was offered 3:00 if needed. Called to get information no answer. We return at 5:00 doors locked. We ring the bell and owner comes to the door. Owner completely forgot about our reservation and wasn’t ready for our arrival. No other guests around. Barely got an apology. The owner tries saying it wasn’t so bad since we only drove for two hours. Completely disgraceful. Unprofessional. I can’t imagine having a good time here with people like this. I don’t recommend even walking past this place. They should be ashamed.

This place is an absolute find! ||We needed to stay somewhere for a weekend between visiting sets of friends in North Carolina and they both recommended Southport; given that we live not far from its namesake in Lancashire, we simply had to and we were not disappointed.||This Inn is just a home-from-home. Rick and Linda are perfect hosts and the immediate atmosphere is one of welcome, relaxation and friendliness.||The parlour space just invites you in to grab a book and to sink into one of the gloriously comfortable chairs or simply to watch the world go by which you can do from the veranda or outdoor porch. Little touches like the cheeses and wines available as hors d'oeuvres in the late afternoon make this place stand out. Tea and coffee is available 24/7 as mentioned by others as are- soft drinks in a mini-fridge located in the dining room. Water is readily available.||Our bed was fabulously comfortable and we had two excellent nights' sleep. The decoration of our room was individual but in keeping with the rest of the Inn. The shower was wonderfully awakening!||Breakfast is taken in the dining room with your fellow guests. Plenty of juice and coffee (should you want it) accompanies a plate full of food, carefully balancing fresh fruit with something savoury but you do not leave the table hungry! ||As mentioned by others, after breakfast Rick revels in taking his guests on a tour of Southport in his golf buggy. He is a mine of information and does not miss a thing. Definitely recommended and, again, another touch which adds to the enjoyment of the stay.||The location of the Inn is perfect. It is just five minutes' walk from waterfront and also from the centre of the town. All the restaurants are within five to ten minutes' walk as well. This is a great place to park the car and leave it be until it's time to go. ||We stayed over a weekend (Friday to Sunday) in mid-October and it was just perfect. I genuinely had not felt as relaxed as I did that weekend for ages. Highly recommended.

All I can say is, if you’re traveling to North Carolina, especially the coast the town of Southport is a must see! And one the best places to stay is the “Robert Ruark Inn”. Old world charm meets modern conveniences. It’s like going back in time without the sacrifice of the old ways. Rick and Linda are the most amazing hosts anyone could ask for. Rick gives an amazing tour of the town and his golf cart that seats 6 comfortably and safely. His knowledge of the town and its history is amazing. You will learn much about this country’s early years, defending its borders to the time when it became a booming, fishing port, and then a favorite filming location for Hollywood while it retains its quaint charm and small town feel. The shopping and restaurants are amazing. We were there in August which is the hottest time of the year and it was so pleasant being by the coast with the cool ocean breeze. I don’t think we had a bad meal the whole trip. I like the area so much I plan on retiring in or near that town. Rick and Linda will make sure that you have a great vacation even if it’s just a weekend rendezvous. Clean and quite, you’ll feel like it’s your own. You will not be disappointed and have marvelous memories to cherish. Make this one of your destinations! Rich and Valerie

Everything about our stay here was great! Rick and Linda are so very nice and welcoming. The first morning after breakfast, Rick gave us a tour of historic Southport. We also got tips of great places to eat. Our room was very nice, bed was very comfortable. Wish we could have stayed longer. We'll definately return.

Yelp
We stayed for 3 night to attend a nearby wedding. The perfect accommodation. Beautiful room snd bathroom, comfortable bed, friends owners. Breakfasts were lovely. An added benefit was a golf cart tour of the town snd bikes available. We would love to stay again. .

Yelp
We loved our stay here: The complimentary bicycles, the cart movie and history tour that the owner offers, the fancy smelling soap and lotion pumps in every bathroom - not to mention the amazing home cooked breakfasts and wine/cheese after noon hour! We fell in love with this quaint quiet town and will certainly be back! So much history. Rick and Linda are all about the details. You'll see so many creature comforts, the little things, while you stay there. The house is gorgeous and they don't hold back on great hosting! I can't even think of anything they could improve. I guess, maybe add a guest refrigerator to the room so we can chill our ice packs and personal items. I'll def be recommending this place to all our friends who travel to Southport!!!

Yelp
We have been to Southport many times. but the Robert Ruark Inn is far and away a special place. Rick and Linda create a warm and inviting atmosphere where no detail is overlooked, regardless of how small. They even did something special for us when they found out it was our anniversary. The breakfast was amazing and the rooms are beautiful, cozy, and peaceful. Easily the best B&B we have ever been to. Pay them a visit, promise you won't regret it.

Yelp
If you're looking for the classic B&B experience you can't go wrong with the Robert Ruark Inn. The owners were kind, helpful, and had a genuine interest in us enjoying our stay. They provided useful insights into local restaurants, shops, and things to do, and offered to drive us wherever we wanted to go in their street-legal golf cart. Of course you can always borrow their bikes if you'd rather pedal yourself around! The house, a beautiful Victorian, had high ceilings, nice decor, and was cool despite the humidity and heat of Southport. The room was comfortable, quiet, and sufficiently spacious. There's a lovely deck and garden area for outdoor seating. The food was fantastic. Our two-night stay featured the following: lots of fresh fruit, real whipped cream, maple syrup, bread pudding, bacon, sausage, quiche, fresh-squeezed juice, coffee, and tea. The owners were very considerate of a food allergy in my group, always a nice touch. Wine and various desserts are available in the evening for snacking. Overall a lovely experience!

Yelp
I can't believe we're only the 2nd folks to rate Robert Ruark B&B! Don't go here because they exceed expectations on the basics: location, walking to water & great selection of Restraunts, very comfortable accommodations, wonderful and diverse breakfasts...go here because they make you feel their primary goal is to give you a wonderful relaxing experience! You can't go wrong whether you're goal is to kick-back, read and relax, or explore the Southport area. One day I was in the "kick back" mood and my wife wanted to explore - Robert Ruark took care of both our needs. Most importantly, if you've never been to Southport before, and you want to make sure you pick a place you're sure will satisfy your groups diverse requirements, you can't go wrong here!

Yelp
Rick and Linda are the best. From the minute we checked in, they made us feel like family. The inn was beautiful and very comfortable. Linda makes the best breakfast in town! Rick took us on a complimentary tour of the tour! I highly suggest the Robert Ruark Inn.

Yelp
Absolutely hands down the best Bed and Breakfast in Southport N.C. This is our second time staying but Rick and Linda make you feel like part of their family. They made my birthday weekend extra special. Virginia's room is the room we always choose. Linda's breakfasts exceed any breakfast that we have ever had and Rick gives some of the best educational, informative tours of Southport. We look forward to going back real soon!!!

Yelp
I cannot say enough about Rick and Linda at the Robert Ruark Inn. They made my sister and I feel like family, and their accommodations and breakfasts were to die for! Each room at the Inn was beautiful. My sister and I went to Southport for a sister's weekend and we will be bringing our parents back and we will stay with Rick and Linda again! Such a relaxing place! Wonderful little places to sit in the side yard under the magnolia, as well as the side courtyard. Quite and picturesque, this was one of my top 2 vacations ever, thanks to Rick and Linda. They have bikes that we used on site (we biked EVERYWHERE) and they were comfortable and had wonderful baskets on them so we could carry anything we needed. The breakfasts were absolutely wonderful and they always had tea, coffee, cookies, water, snacks at the ready for us at any time. I honestly cannot say enough about Rick, Linda, The Robert Ruark Inn and the town of Southport. We will be back, and it will always be to stay at the Inn.

Yelp
Wonderful experience and beautiful home. They went above and beyond to make sure all of our needs were met. Could not have asked for a better experience .

Yelp
We stayed here last night and it may be the best B&B we have ever stayed at. The hosts/owners Rick and Linda have put a lot of talent into their business. The home was built in 1890. Everything about the home is a reflection of that time period. Everything is very nice. Our room was spotless, well taken care of. The soaps, shampoos and even bath salts were of high quality. The bed was very very comfortable over sized king. Soft sheets and lots of comfy pillows. The breakfast in the morning was well prepared, and garnished with charm. The coffee was fresh. The home is situated on a very quiet street and we slept a full night. We will defiantly return. We do not have one negative remark about this stay.
