On the Grid : Rocanini Coffee Roasters

"This modern and light-filled café offers a pleasing ambiance while chatting with a friend, catching up on some work, or simply stopping in for that extra pep in your step.  The vinyl collection is an extra bonus for those of you who enjoy a more classic sound with their cup of joe.  Along with excellent coffee... Rocanini offers pastries, sandwiches, and other yummy treats." - Elle Gassner

This is truly my favorite spot in Downtown! The atmosphere always makes me feel right at home. The coffee is fantastic, and the blue matcha is a unique treat that I absolutely love. And don’t even get me started on the sweet treats and colaches —they are an absolute must-try.

I stopped by this coffee shop while visiting Vancouver from the South (Texas girl here 🌵), and overall, it was a nice experience. The coffee was great — rich, smooth, and made just right. The food was also good — fresh and flavorful, perfect for a light bite. That said, I did feel like the customer service was a bit cold. Maybe it’s just the big city vibe I’m not used to, but I didn’t feel the warm welcome I typically get back home. Still, worth a stop if you’re in the area and want quality coffee — just don’t expect a lot of chit-chat!

Google
I wish I could give this place a thousand stars ⭐️ I absolutely love the selection of pastry and drinks, their cozy atmosphere and beautiful interior. The vibe is amazing, it reminded me of when I lived in Prague. I love how the music is quiet, the tables have “no laptops” signs and the place is so spacious. Kolach and linz cookie are absolutely delicious. I’ll keep coming back, can’t believe I didn’t find this place sooner.

I enjoyed my morning latte at Rocanini Coffee Roasters. The cafe was busy and welcoming as I enjoyed my morning cup. It was easy to find and quite convenient to the location we were staying at while in Vancouver. The coffee is good too!

Really nice cafe ☺️☕️ I am very happy with my experience. I like how open and clean the cafe is. My latte was lovely. AC/ air flow is very comfortable 💗💗💗

I visited here during my stay in Vancouver. It was around 8 a.m. on Saturday morning, but several customers were already sitting in the store. I chose Blue Matcha Latte from the drink menu. I was curious about what it would taste like. It had an indescribably gentle taste. And I bought cheese scone, custard and raspberry pastries. The pastry was good because it was less sweet. The scones taste warm and nice, too. I was going to have breakfast inside the store, but it wasn't very comfortable, so I took it back to the hotel. I'm looking forward to relaxing in the store next time.

Great coffee. Very clean place with Greta staff. Coffee was very tasty and fresh. Will be a regular here.

Google
Great coffee, pastries and atmosphere. I've been here twice, and both times everything has been perfect. I recommend the cappuccinos for coffee, and a kolach for one of their pastries. A little more expensive, but you won't regret it. As someone who makes an effort to go to many different coffee shops on my travels, I can say that this one ranks amongst the best.

Yelp
Outstanding coffee and pastries. We went daily during our time in Vancouver. Got the nanaimo and the banana muffin, so good! I tried the butterfly matcha latte, matcha latte, regular latte, and the London fog latte. My husband got the cortado each time. The coffee is delectable, some of the best I've ever had. The space itself has WiFi, many tables, quiet music playing, and a super cozy vibe, plus free water. I loved it!

Yelp
This coffee shop is a little hidden but but very welcoming. The interior feels very down-to-earth and organic, a nice change of pace from the ultra-modern coffee bars that dominate downtown. Friendly service from the barista. I noticed that they have a great tea list and a bigger selection of pastries that i would've expected from the size of the shop. There are a good options for vegans (one sandwich and a few pastries). I stopped here for lunch and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and drink. Everything had that homemade "prepared with care" quality. I got the hummus and veggie sandwich, a "Ferrero Rocher" (their homemade version, which happens to be vegan), and a milk oolong tea. The sourdough they used for the sandwich was amazing! There are plenty of hummus sandwiches out there but this was definitely one of the better ones. I really liked their Ferrero Rocher too (more than I like the actual candy), it had a very rich cocoa flavour. The milk oolong ("milk oolong" is the type of tea, not oolong with milk) was nice and delicate. The prices are very reasonable, especially for downtown. My total was just under $20. You can pay with card, but there was a sign at the register saying that they prefer cash payment, so this is the time to use it if you have it.

Yelp
This was a surprisingly nice spot to stumble into. We were just looking for coffee and maybe some breakfast. Servers were very pleasant and patient. Big space with great ambiance and a variety of seating options. Latte was delicious. I enjoyed the egg and ham English muffin. Sounds simple but it was really well made. Cardamom bun was kind of dry but the middle was soaked in some delicious berry compote. I didn't taste the cardamom at all. Kids loved their cinnamon buns.

Yelp
I'm just writing related to ordering coffee online from Rocanini. I'm in the U.S., but my aunt in Vancouver loves coffee. So for Christmas, I searched online for what seemed like a good Vancouver-area coffee place that shipped coffee. I found Rocanini and placed an expensive order at noon on December 14, which seemed like plenty of time to get coffee bags shipped within the same city (I assumed the order would ship that day or maybe the next day). Well, a full week after placing my order, I see the shipment went out. Not only that, but it's shipping from Ontario, so UPS says it won't be delivered until after New Years. I'm disappointed it took a week to ship the order, and that the order isn't coming from where it seemed I was ordering from. I just found Rocanini's shipping FAQ, and it says all orders are shipped in two business days, and delivery should occur within 3-7 business days. There's no hint the shipping will be from a different province than BC. https://www.rocanini.com/pages/shipping-faq

Yelp
We visited this charming cafe several times and were impressed by the quality of the coffee, food and snacks. Great atmosphere and very friendly and helpful staff. We will be coming back and highly recommend this place. Peter & Iris

Yelp
My son and I stopped in around 9am on a Saturday morning. While there was a small group of teens ordering all the things ahead of us, the two women on staff turned out our order quickly! The cinnamon bun we ordered was delicious - not too sweet but a perfect compliment to my flat white. The banana bread was devoured by my 10 year old - he absolutely loved it! The crowd was present but not terribly loud - the vibe is calm and I could see myself coming regularly if I lived here. I highly suggest this spot if you're in the neighborhood!

Yelp
Passed by this little cafe and knew I had to try it. I immediately crossed the street (jaywalked!) and ordered my usual cappuccino with oat milk. It was perfect - temp had just the right hotness, espresso was not bitter and had no after taste. Did not try any food. Not super cozy inside, mostly small tables and a community table, but it's clean and I came for the coffee. Sat outside on the little bench to watch cars and people walk by. Would def come back.

Yelp
// Summary Great coffee shop with superb coffee and service! As they say, life is too short for bad coffee. // Experience I ordered a pourover and it tasted pretty great. This was definitely one of the better cups that I've had in Vancouver, and I was not disappointed! // Service Pretty simple and straightforward - I ordered, they made it, and it came out. They were nice and friendly, and seemed to have a good rapport with some of the folks who came in and out. // Ambiance This coffee shop has a nice and simple charm to them. They don't go for the modern and minimalistic aesthetic that might be so trendy with a lot of other coffee shops, but it does feel like a place you can plop down, get some work down or catch up with a couple of friends. // Convenience I walked here as I was visiting, and I found it relatively easy to get to from my hotel.

Yelp
We came here on a Sunday morning. The babka tasted like tap water--was not sweet at all. The coffee was okay, not great. Our cups, cutleries, and plates were all dirty (they had dried bits of food on them). The sandwiches were okay, but for the same price you could go to a cleaner cafe.

Yelp
Spent about a week in Vancouver last week and after trying Rocanini my first morning there I ended up coming back every morning first thing! 10/10 vibe, well thought out space, and kind service. I recommend their double shot espresso (iced or hot, I tried both)!

Yelp
Cute little coffee shop that's sits right in front of the Whitecaps FC stadium. We were passing by and decided to stop in. The inside is very subtle and comfy. Their homemade banana bread was absolutely delicious! Probably one of the best I've tried! The coffee was delicious of course too! They have a small food menu as well incase you want to pick up some lunch with your coffee. Great and prompt service! Would love to try again!
google avatar

Yelp
Cuter than the other coffee shops around and their cups too! Their special flavors provide more variety too. Def a great place to chat or do some work. Very quiet environment. Bonus: it's open quite early too if you need that boost to start your day!

Yelp
Cute little cafe with a great selection of baked goods, breakfast sandwiches, coffee and tea. We stopped in almost every morning on our trip to Vancouver for a latte or matcha latte and it never disappointed. The matcha has a bit of added vanilla syrup and is just the right amount of earthiness. The blueberry bar was a nice sweet breakfast treat and the staff was friendly. A good amount of seating if you want to stay for breakfast and a relaxing esthetic.
google avatar

Jerry V.

Yelp
Oat Milk Flat White was delicious. Had a vegan cookie that I also really enjoyed. Nice ambiance, felt like a great place to hang out.

Bergen F.

Yelp
Hello, is this the police? I'd like to report a crime against food. I came in here for some breakfast pastry, since Pane e Formaggio was late to open. I picked the last blueberry babka in the case. While I was paying, I saw the server putting it into the microwave. "No thanks, I don't need it heated up." But in the bag, it's cold. Like, refrigerator cold. Alarm bells. "Wait, is it fresh from today?" "It's from yesterday. That's why I was going to heat it up." "You're selling day-old pastry at full price?" "I can give you your money back...." [walks out in disgust]

Yelp
I miss this place when I think of Vancouver. I remember how good the drinks and pastries were. The ambiance is of a busy but not overwhelming cafe. Everyone who worked there was really polite too. Would highly recommend. Can't wait to go back when I go to Vancouver again.

Yelp
The cutest little coffee shop in downtown Vancouver! We found this Rocanini location while searching for vegan pasties by made by local bakery, To Live For, and were very pleasantly surprised to find that they had tons of products by this local vegan company including vegan banana bread, vegan coconut lemon poppyseed bread, vegan pecan pumpkin bread, vegan peanut butter bites, and a few vegan cookies. They also had a vegan wrap and sandwich option in addition to a bunch of non-vegan pastries and sandwiches as well. Their coffee menu is simple and delicious, the prices are reasonable, the staff is friendly, the vibe is chill, and I would highly recommend it to others!
google avatar

Annie M.

Yelp
It's small but cute coffee shop. I met my good friend for coffee before the class! The coffee was good and banana bread a bit too sweet for me. The service was decent and staff was friendly.
google avatar

Matthew N.

Yelp
This is a great little coffee shop. If you are tired of the bigger chains that are loud and not able to enjoy a good cup of coffee than this is the place. I had a vanilla latte and the ability to speak at a normal level about work and personal life with one of my employees. The coffee was amazing and served in a real cup!
google avatar

Yelp
pretty good coffee with nice latte art. lattes come with double shot. cappucino turned out well. few baked goods

Yelp
This was a nice find for coffee when I was last in Vancouver, as I make it a point to support micro and local roasteries (versus Starbucks). My friend and I came here before heading back to Seattle on a Sunday morning and the place wasn't busy at all, which was nice. From what Yelp told me, I ordered the Flat White Top, which I normally wouldn't do since I'm a black coffee kind of person, but am glad I did. There was a nice white foam to it with strong coffee, and of course, the design was on point. However, if that's not your cuppa joe (literally), they can make other classic beverages like lattes, pour-overs, etc... just don't expect anything elaborate or a range of syrups as Rocanini's simplicity and refinement is in the coffee itself. Though the place is small, it feels spacious with a high ceiling and mostly a communal table for seating, which I didn't mind. They have art magazines on the table, and I even spotted an old school record player, which I dug. (But Beach House playing in the background had me softly singing the verses with my coffee in hand.) Plus, free wifi here, which is essential for any traveling American not using data. If you're in the area and like artisan coffee then Rocanini is worth a try.

Yelp
Cute little coffee house. Serves up pour over, aero press or cold brewed specialty coffees. I went with the ethiopian guji and it was delicious. Spartan interior with a relaxed vibe complete with a stereo playing vinyl records. If you buy whole beans the bag comes with recommended brewing tips depending on which device you choose. (aeropress, pour over etc) handy!

Yelp
This coffee shop happens to be next to a barre studio that I visit, so too often the calories get replaced here as soon as I've burned them off. I am a fan of their tea loaves which have a substantive homemade quality to them. Also, I recently ordered a hot chai tea and was happily surprised that it didn't taste of the typical mass market blend of Westernized "chai" spices, but rather had more of the subtleties of the flavors you'd find at a roadside chai stall in India (sans the milk and sugar, of course). The interior of the space is also roomy and open, with high ceilings, and, in my opinion, is much more pleasant and better value than the ****bucks across the street.

Yelp
We were walking down the street looking for a local coffee place and found this little gem down the street from our hotel. We ordered a latte and green tea and not only was it delicious, but the people working there were very kind and sweet. I noticed they had a food menu that we were unable to try but if their food is as good as their coffee, I would definitely give it a try! Great place to start your morning!
google avatar

Kit Yee Y.

Yelp
This coffee shop is as well as the one in Steveston in Richmond. This one is very spacious with a lot of room that customers can stand and line up for their orders in the middle of the room. The interior design is modern and contemporary. Tables and chairs spread out at different locations but leave the middle area empty for displays. I ordered a latte. It was as well as the one in Steveston. There was only one size. I did not buy any pastries or sandwiches. Sandwiches cost about $8-9 each. People came here with their laptops or sat down and chatted with friends. It was a place to relax and hang out with friends or even do the work or study here.
google avatar

Riya D.

Yelp
Nice coffee shop with very warm and welcoming ambiance just steps from Robson Street. They serve single origin coffees, sell beans and also offer a nice selection of sandwiches, wraps, salads and other baked goods. I really appreciate the vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options - it's especially nice when a coffee shop offers something gluten free that isn't a chocolate brownie! I'll be coming back to try more - the Americano I had was delicious!

Christina C.

Yelp
Amazing coffee!! Had a flat white and it was made perfectly! Can't wait to go back. Sat in front on one of the cute tables and watched the world go by

Yelp
What a great little coffee shop. They have a simple menu, but what they offer is great. Cool decor. They have a 'flat white' on the menu, but I asked for a 'flat brown' and told them what was in it.. (hint: it's a flat white with chocolate ganache). It was a great cup of coffee!!! We're visiting from Edmonton and wished they were there... I'd get coffee from them everyday!
google avatar

Yelp
I always try to have a cup of good coffee when in a town that has many offerings that are not Starbucks, Dunkin, Seattle Roasters.. this was just down the block from my hotel and i wanted to see what they had. The interior is quite sparce, an awful lot of open space with only a handful of tables for two - an industrial feel, maybe that is what they are going for. I ordered a Flat white, and bought a bag of beans to bring home. Flat white small $3.50 - i would say it was about 6 ounces. The beans were 340 grams, which is not quite 12 ounces and was $19. While the above is Canadian, not US dollars, i still think both on the pricey side. Look forward to trying a few other spots in Vancouver to compare them to.

Yelp
A little too hipster to my taste. Like the time I asked for a double long espresso. Barista said it couldn't be done and was most un-accomodating about it (most folks who don't really agree give you the option of running it longer or adding water afterwards). Customer was not always right here, and after a bit of back and forth I suggested that - as it's a common request and my preference - she might want to check out how Starbucks did it. Big eye roll, disdainful reply, and she offered me my money back. What was weird, beyond her attitude, was her colleague manning the till was watching and could have defused the situation at any time by saying "add more water or run longer (make the idiot happy)" to her. Nope, let's stay in Coffee Puritans Land instead. Or the time I bought some coffee beans which were incredibly tough to grind in my manual grinder and didn't taste much the better for it. Or the rather spartan and uncomfortable straight backed chairs. But, hey, having a vinyl record player makes it all muuuuch better.
google avatar

Mai B.

Yelp
Comfortable space , I never had trouble with seating here. Best for enjoying their drip coffee ( yes, they also do latte art on all lattes) in the space. I had their GF date squares before and that was pretty good. I always see people here on laptops or reading the paper, or meeting up for a chat with friends. Love the decor, wooden communal table, rest of double tables and a bench for seating. They also have music (semi indie) drifting from their speakers next to the record player which inspires a creative environment. I do love Starbucks across the street, at the same time I also appreciate boutique dedicated coffee shops like Rocanini . It's a different vibe. =)
google avatar

Michelle N.

Yelp
We like to visit local coffee spots when we travel and Rocanini didn't disappoint. We ordered our coffee and sat outside in the beautiful weather in their only table and chairs. It is located on a quiet road and the coffee was prepared perfect to taste.
google avatar

Yenny L.

Yelp
A quiet coffeeshop with great coffee and music, definitely a gem in the area. It is best to just enjoy their coffee (roasted by themselves) alone in the midst of rainy day in Vancouver.
google avatar

Nicholas P.

Yelp
I'm a simple person. I give 5 stars to coffee shops that can make a proper machiatto, have a nice environment to work from (remote worker right here) and friendly staff. My rating says it all :)
google avatar

Vincci L.

Yelp
I've always loved the Rocanini coffee shop in Steveston, Richmond, so when I discovered they opened a location in downtown, I wanted to check out the space. They're located right on Beatty, across from the Starbucks. The space: A large open room, with wood floors, and a communal table by the window. There's a colourful graffiti wall, and along the wall are simple 2 seater tables with black and orange chairs, adding a pop of colour. The cafe is a bit less cozy and has more of an industrial atmosphere to it. I ordered my latte and sat at the communal table by the large window. Unless there is an event at BC place, this area of town is not too busy on the weekends. The latte was just as good as the one in Richmond, a good balance of the espresso and the milk, and not too acidic at all. As they had just opened, the owner at the shop was present. He explained to me that they blend their espresso beans, to get consistent flavours every time. I anticipate that I will be visiting this location more frequently, as it's less busy than other coffee shops in downtown and certainly with better coffee than Starbucks.
google avatar

Hailey C.

Yelp
Great place for coffee, quiet place to study and work. I went there to read some papers. The music they played was quit soft and helped me concentrate on my paper. Other customers were also working and reading which made me easy to read! The service was great too Definitely recommended if you want a place to study and have a coffee!

Yelp
Met up with a friend for a chat and we ended up in Rocanini Coffee Roasters . Comfy little hipster coffee shop , just the way I like it! Lot of variety to choose from . The display of sweets looked very tempting. I had a very nice herbal tea that I loved specially at that cold rainy day . I would definitely go Back to try their sweets next time!

Yelp
I love this nice and quiet Coffee shop in Yaletown. Great spot to get some work done in a beautiful part of town. Baristas are lovely and helpful, wifi is good but it lacks power outlets! Besides that I've been hitting it up all week on my vacation to Vancouver.
google avatar

Tracey O.

Yelp
I really like this cute little coffee shop. I got the rose latte and it was delicious. This place is not too loud either so it's nice if you're looking for a relatively quieter spot. Also - they sell cartems donuts here! Yum.
google avatar

Erika G.

Yelp
I popped into this Yaletown coffee shop downtown because I enjoy trying new places and I am a fan of coffee. Before heading over, I did some research on Yelp and saw that most people rated this place 4 or 5 stars-therefore it must be good. This is not the only location in the lower mainland (there are locations in Steveston and Kerrisdale), but this may have been the first time I tried Rocanini. I loved it. I ordered a latte (they have soy and almond milke +$0.60), and they do latte art even in the to-go cups (i'm a sucker for latte art I know...). The coffee is scrumptious! $3.95 for a 12oz which is standard I supposed, but they only had that size to choose from, I should have asked if they did smaller and larger sizes (because people, let's admit, like options). However, there are options to be had here, from americanos to drip coffee so all coffee lovers can rejoice! I also enjoyed the decor, the music emitting from a good 'ol record player. They also sell Chemix makers, grinders, whole beans, and goodies any coffee feind would get giddy about. I'd come back for sure :)
google avatar

Clea S.

Yelp
I spend a lot of time in coffee shops and hardly ever feel the urge to review them. This place tho, man, the coffee just tastes so good! I took advantage of their after 3 pm "happy hour" and had an iced latte. It was nice and strong and just delicious. Probably in my top 10 lattes of all time. I love the vibe as well. The mellow indie playlist is spot on. I wish they were open later because I often work at the Starbucks across the street in the evenings all the way to the 8 pm closing time.
google avatar

Yeonji K.

Yelp
I ordered a chai latte to go and 2 minutes later I saw paper in my drink and then I realized it was the chai tea bag so I asked the barista, do I leave it in? Her answer was a simple "depends on how strong you want it to be" so I left confused as I've never had a chai latte with the tea bag left in. As soon as I tasted my drink, it tasted like warm milk and no chai, actually no flavor whatsoever. I paid 4.80 for a cup of warm milk and I am very disappointed in their lack of ability to make a simple chai latte. Won't be coming back.

Yelp
A fabulous coffee house conveniently located on Beatty - a short walk from our hotel and BC Place stadium. The coffee is superb; the decor (great lighting fixtures!) is funky and welcoming; the old-school stereo (Technics amp/receiver and Fisher speakers - yay!) is inspired; and the staff are friendly and super attentive. Best coffee in the area (and trust us, we explored around!).
google avatar

Will C.

Yelp
Great cappuccinos. I bit on the hot side - next time will request a lower temperature for the milk. Excellent flavor!
google avatar

Alexia F.

Yelp
I usually frequent the Starbucks directly across the street, however I decided to support the "little guy" by coming here... I ordered a chai tea latte. It was good. Made quickly and served misto style with a large tea bag. The service was adequate. What I would call "typical Vancouver service"; not overly friendly, genuine or warm, but not rude either. The server seemed to be busy with her closing procedures (even though it's 45mins to closing) and banging and clanging cups and dishes as loud as humanly possible and cleaning furiously. When coming in for a relaxing cuppa, I would expect light chit chat and friendliness, rather than her concentration on the dishes.
google avatar

Kevin B.

Yelp
Nice coffee. When I first arrived in Van I visited and needed my caffeine hit. I actually wanted a nice filter coffee, but they do not offer this, so suggested pour over (as I do make every day), so I thought why not. Coffee was pretty good, but not outstanding. It was not that hot...mostly because pour over by the means of the method, is not that hot (it shouldn't be made with boiling water anyway), unless you really heat the cup up first...which you can't really with a take out cup. Price was rather steeped, but pour over coffee does require a lot of "labour" versus other methods. Gentleman at the till was very pleasant and we chinwagged about coffee. Would like to try a long-black here to really try their roasts. Shame you don't do filter though.
google avatar

J N.

Yelp
I always want to try the coffee at this place after researching on coffee roasters in town. Came here with my coworker and got myself a cappuccino and my coworker got the drip coffee. I also bought No. 3 espresso beans. My cappuccino was excellent; the barista sure knew how to make a cappuccino. The texture of the froth milk was absolutely perfect and creamy. The taste was a bit on light side but it was very good. That night I made the cappuccino with new beans I bought from here for my husband and myself. My husband liked the flavour also. I highly recommend a cappuccino from here and buy beans for their espresso machine for home.
google avatar

Amy H.

Yelp
We spent the morning searching for this place. It is a local, cute shop. There are not many options but sometimes it makes things easier to decide. I got tea like I always do and sat there to enjoy the scenery. The coffee shop also had this cool cold brew contraption. I have never seen something like that before.
google avatar

Lalo Z.

Yelp
Great coffee, awesome service! Very cool equipment, I'll try cold brewed next time. Pricey but worth it so be prepared
google avatar

Oleg L.

Yelp
Cool open concept working space-like seating area, where you could get some work done while enjoying some of the finest coffees known to man. A bit short on baked goodies selection, but the coffee more than makes up for it.
