12 Best Wine Tours and Tastings in Florence | Condé Nast Traveler

"Rocca di Frassinello is a beautiful and modernist winery designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano. The feat of geometry—whose rich ambers and reds seem to fold into the greens of Grosseto along Tuscany's coastline—is a must-stop for architecture buffs and oenophiles alike. Rocca di Frassinello isn't the kind of place you just happen upon—Maremma, in the south of Tuscany, is rugged cowboy country, so there are no crowds; rather, you'll be tasting cult favorite wines alongside well-researched and well-traveled culture vultures." - Erica Firpo

We had a great experience at Rocca di Frassinello. On the way there, we blew a tire on the very bumpy access road—just a heads-up for future visitors. The staff were incredibly helpful: they picked us up, offered to help contact a mechanic, and got us to the winery safely. Since some of our group had to stay behind with the car, they missed the full tour, but the team kindly showed them the cellar before the tasting so they could still enjoy part of it. Beautiful place, great wine, very kind people—and they speak excellent English, which made everything much easier. Thanks again!

The place is very beautiful, the place of the barrels was pretty and the acustic of the winery was amazing and the wine was refreshing

Update 8.22 Don’t expect a warm welcome without a reservation… or for that matter, a friendly, knowledgeable reception. 3* down from 5* last year. A trip off the beaten path to reach this architectural jewel is highly recommended if you’re in the area. Whether you pre-book a tour or just show up for a tasting, you’ll be welcomed by friendly, knowledgeable staff. The range of wines is impressive, the wine shop has both large bottles and older vintages, all at reasonable prices.

Heaven on earth. Julio gave me the Superior tour, which included an in-depth tour of the facilities and a tasting with some snacks. He is welcoming & knowledgeable and even let me take a preview taste of an upcoming vintage! The wine is fantastic (don’t miss the Baffonero – quite possibly the best Merlot I’ve ever had). September is a lovely time to visit, as the staff is working on the harvest. Big thanks to Julio & the rest of the wonderful folks at Rocca do Frassinello for a lovely afternoon.

Bellisimo!! The winery designed by Mr.Piano is very interesting! I finally came here to see my idol's design. This is a winery that combines history, tradition and modernity! The red wines from Rocca di Frassinello have always been my favourite!! The perfect combination of my favorite architect's design and my favorite wine brand!!!!!!

I didn't expect to find such an architectural delight, basically in the middle of nowhere! Renzo Piano's design stands in a bucolic area, the wines are heavenly and the barrel area is total eye candy! A visit is a must!
