What's Happening in Rochester, New York, for the Total Solar Eclipse in April 2024

"A multimedia concert presented at an arena that combines classic and contemporary science-fiction–themed music with a laser-light show and large video wall; the program includes new works by Tyzik, selections from film scores such as 2001: A Space Odyssey, Alien, E.T., Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace, and special appearances by a city ballet troupe, aerialists, and a community chorus." - Wendy O'Dea Wendy O'Dea Wendy O'Dea has worked as a travel journalist and content strategist for two decades. I want to give a good review. BUT...every December when I want to attend something, it is all christmas. The nutcracker is christmas, the holiday pops is all christmas with a few "other" songs thrown in for good measure but it really it most all christmas. It would be a suggestion that the RPO provide something in December that is not focused on the holiday. There are many other cultures out there so I consider the RPO non inclusive. I see no problem with having christmas options in December but the fact that there is nothing else is not very good.

We missed a showing of The Nutcracker due to inclement weather and tried calling the phone line and sending an email. We couldn't get through on the phone, but we did get an email back from a gentleman named Daniel who had us meet him at Will Call. He set us up with fantastic seats! Thank you Daniel!

Seen them play a few times, and they’re always excellent! Last Christmas we saw the Nutcracker at Kodak Hall, and this summer we saw them play along to Jurassic Park. Fun, nostalgic, and the orchestra is just fantastic. Sometimes we’d forget they were playing live—which I feel is high praise, because they just sounded exactly like the film. The audience was quiet and respectful, as well, which is always a plus. Highly recommend seeing them play!

Wonderful orchestra! The programs are lovely and the musicians are fabulous. The RPO was one of the reasons we moved to Rochester. It draws on great schools of music, and spins off delightful chamber music series too. Go to a performance and luxuriate in the greatest music ever written!

Appalled that RPO would allow a musician boycott our national anthem.

Went to see the little mermaid. The movie and orchestra were amazing. Big problem though. One water fountain that is operational in the whole place. No consessions or the bottled water that was said to be able to purchase on the website. I have been to a large number of events here and this is seriously a low point for the place. For the ticket price I would at least expect to pay $6 for a water when the even is 2 hours long and has an Intermission. Also no outside food or drink were allowed in either.

I recently called and worked with Julia at the box office. I said I would like to see a show this fall and also gift some tickets to my parents. I asked what shows there were to pick from. I ordered beethoven and Chopin. She failed to mention the beethoven show was for tomorrow. That would have been reasonable to say" heads up this show I'm recommending isn't later this fall, it's tomorrow". By the time I checked the confirmation email the next day the show had already happened. I then called and spoke to Julia and instead of receiving any customer service to fix this she hung up on me! I think the wonderful and talented RPO deserve to be handled by someone better at the box office.

Gala Holiday Pops is always a good time. When we went around Thanksgiving, you had to prove you were vaccinated or tested recently if over the age of 12 and then everyone had to wear masks. I was happy that the ushers were asking people to pull thier masks up to keep everyone safe. The Pops this year wasn't as interesting for my 4 year olds first foray into the theatre but she did enjoy parts of it and we will try again next time!
