We arrived right at opening (4pm) on a Saturday. Party of 5. Hostess was a bit slow and not very attentive. Our waiter was kind of indifferent. We took advantage of the happy hour oysters and the Paloma. Great oysters and drink. We asked for bread and it was fresh off the grill although we kind of had to beg for the bread versus just being provided. We ordered a few orders of fish and chips. Fish and fries were great. Tartar sauce was just ok. Very mayonnaise heavy and little dill or vinegar. The king salmon dish was decent. The fish was bland but the mushrooms, potatoes and squash were good. The shrimp and polenta was OUTSTANDING! The panna cotta was great too. Overall the food was good. Bartender was awesome! Hostess and waiter were underwhelming. Atmosphere was good. Cute place. Spent $200.

Excellent place to have some drinks and appies, have a very relaxing atmosphere, staffs are friendly and have a good price on happy hour! 2/22/25 Back here for happy hour… As usual, service is good fr hostess to our server Kylie. Food is good, we have carpaccio, wings, poutine etc! Great place to dine in!

I took my partner on a date here and the food was lovely, I love oysters, and this is the place to go for oysters! Fresh and salty, their cocktail sauce was excellent, and they even served cocktail sauce with the Poutine where I would have expected ketchup which I think really made it feel special. The server was very nice and checked in on us frequently, if you chose to go you should get there early for fresh oysters and don't forget dessert because the Chocolate Torte was absolutely mouth watering! My only criticism would be: It seemed that for larger groups it would be suggested to reserve a table since there isn't a ton of space. They gave us only one napkin, but once I needed to use it to clean my mouth, I had to put my utensils on the bare table. I would have been more comfortable if we were provided two napkins one for our laps and faces and the other for the utensils. P.S. online it says they do 12 dozen oysters they only do 6 but I guess you could order two half dozen.

Love the décor and ambiance of the restaurant. Customer service is great! We sat at the bar and had late night drinks. They have a nice choice of whisky and wine. Very cozy place and love the bartender. Overall had a fun time drinking and chatting.

Google
Came here for some delicious oysters and decided to try some other things. There was not too many people here and it wasn’t too hot so we decided to sit outside and everyone decided to sit outside because the weather was so beautiful and the atmosphere was amazing. Zach is great, along with Pete and Bob, they all did amazing. They made sure that we had water.,Our plates were cleared. They were checking on us and asking if we needed anything. The only thing I would add is the beef short ribs needed to be a little bit more rendered and the polenta , a little bit more salt. The restaurant is super clean and there are plenty of staff working, which is great to see because some restaurants are always shorthanded.

Google
Food and service was amazing, Megan our bartender was fantastic. Must have are the Judd cove oysters, and the mussels they were out of this world. We had the chocolate tart for dessert and it was Rockstar. The only thing keeping this from being a five-star review was a very limited number of wines by the glass. So happy we came in here.

Google
Good food, great service, But, the table we were sitting looked right into the ladies washroom and ever time the door closed it banged so hard it made us jump! I had to switch chairs with my wife to fell comfortable. The restaurant was very full and no other table was available.

Google
Had an excellent dinner here on our initial visit. Some of the best oysters we've ever had! If you intend to catch their happy hour, you'll be best to get there ~15-30 minutes prior to it ending. We arrived 5 minutes early and that was apparently too late to get the deals. We still enjoyed the place.

Thomas P.

Yelp
Great food, lovely atmosphere! My go to date night place. The oysters are always fresh.

Yelp
Came here for our 25th anniversary dinner. Graduated from WWU in 98 and 99. Super cool outside area. Waiter gave us complimentary bubbly. Had the halibut, and Shrimp and Polenta. Both were super good. Cocktails were excellent and good beer selection. Huge wine selection. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Not local to the area but was in the city for the weekend, so we had to be picky on where to eat. I'd say this place was worth it! Came at exactly 4pm on a Sunday, when they're open again for dinner and we were immediately seated. The restaurant is spacious, with a 2nd floor and bar area towards the back. There were only 2 other parties so service was pretty quick and our server was nice. We came with the intention to just get oysters on the happy hour menu, which is offered all day on Sundays, but the menu looked good so we tried a couple other dishes. We started with a dozen oysters (I believe Olympia) were fresh, sweet, and just the right amount of briny taste. They came with a mignonette but it didn't have as much flavor as I expected, so they also offer cocktail sauce and horseradish if needed. Beef Carpaccio was good, pretty traditional flavors. If you've never had it before, I'd recommend trying during happy hour because the price is good. Poutine with pork belly was a little underwhelming, especially because we've had our fair share of poutine. Fries were crispy and pork belly was cooked well, but I wish we had more pork belly. Gravy was a little on the salty side but the cheese had good pull. Overall, a cute date spot or nice dinner.

Yelp
Such a cute spot for date night! The dinner menu is full of awesome seafood choices. We especially loved the oysters and the scallops! Great service too.

Yelp
We walked into Rock and Rye with no reservations on a Tuesday late afternoon. I will say if there was a ramp for our stroller I would have given 5 stars. But to see no ramp in the front was odd. Otherwise, we had amazing happy hour drinks and small plates. We were blown away at the clean fresh oysters. They were the best without any toppings. Second favorite was the oyster Rockefeller (pictured). Not pictured were the fresh oysters, salmon dip, or poutine. Overall the place was quite spacious and clean.

Yelp
Definitely go on a Sunday where their HH menu is all day. You'll get to try a lot of the menu on a discount. We did take our teens with us; unfortunately there was not much they could order. I wish they had included some chicken tenders. They did enjoy the fries, which was the only thing they could eat off the menu. Fresh oysters were great. Mussels were okay. The dipping broth could have been more flavorful with more garlic or butter? Taste like water down tomato soup. Tacos were great with lots of pork meat. Brussels were tasty with enough crispy to not be burnt. Service was good with various people helping out. Definitely a date night kind of place or group with adults.

Yelp
Harrison is sheer living genius when it comes to food. The beef carpaccio was luscious and divine as always. OMG I love this dish. Decadent. My companions were thrilled with the beet salad (sorry--not even Harrison, with all his talents and magic, can sufficiently modify the taste of a beet for me), and so I enjoyed the mixed greens with blackcurrant vinaigrette and gorgonzola. We had three other seafood dishes which were all divine: seared black cod with luscious sautéed shiitake, bok choy and friends; albacore tataki--beautiful; and, incredible seared scallops with a lovely sauce including baby bok choy that was perfect in it (but impossible to cut without a steak knife so I snarfed from my hand because it was so good). A peachy panna cotta and dense chocolate torte pulled up the rear, adding to ours deliciously. Friends raved about the Grüner Veltliner and their after-dinner drink flight of port and... I loved my mocktails: Hippie Spritz, which was delicious, refreshing and perfectly subtly flavored (meaning not too anything, just lovely; and, Pixie Potion, an egg white froth of a drink which was as pretty as it tasted--again, complex and subtle. Even better than the food, if that can possibly be, was our philosopher-server, Svea. Wonderfully helpful, great recommendations and suggestions (yet how could she go wrong?!?) and hilarious and inspiring to talk to. Wonderful night...

Yelp
Rock & Rye is an awesome spot for food & drinks in Bellingham. It's in the historical Herald building in downtown Bellingham, with an industrial loft design on the inside. Like they say on their website, it's a good blend of fine dining & casual. The liquor selection is impressive, with an emphasis on whiskey. I had a glass of the Fremont Mischief Skagit Gold, a local rye. For food, I had a half dozen oysters and the mussels. The oysters were good, but the mussels were outstanding - plump, juicy, and flavorful. The only thing I'd want more of is bread to soak up all the delicious broth. I've also had the duck confit before (also tasty, but slightly different than what's on the current menu). Service was friendly - the bartenders were happy to share their favorite menu items.

Frank M.

Yelp
I was excited to try this place due to the reputation and reviews. Coming from the Southwest to PNW, I like to have oysters closer to the source. I ordered the $16 happy hour half dozen oysters. The server mentioned that the oysters were larger than the others on the menu, but I am not that familiar, and did not understand that larger meant possibly less tasty oysters. Now I know. These were the worst tasting mushy oysters that I have ever had. The rest of the food was ok. For a place with oysters in the name, they should be ashamed to serve these. The service was excellent, and I really enjoyed the ambiance and vibe.

Whitney R.

Yelp
Love the décor and ambiance of the restaurant. Customer service is great! We sat at the bar and had late night drinks. They have a nice choice of whisky and wine. Very cozy place and love the bartender. Overall had a fun time drinking and chatting.

Yelp
Food was on point, drinks were fun, I loved the atmosphere, it's private, yet not.. if that makes sense. You can also sit outside. Staff was very friendly, reservations recommended, but not necessary. Parking wasn't bad at all. We will be back

Melissa C.

Yelp
I really enjoyed their oysters and dessert.. food was eclectic and overall service wasn't the best but I would eat here again for sure.

Melanie D.

Yelp
Love the decor and ambiance of the restaurant. Customer service is great! I thought that with the name of the restaurant that there would be more oyster choices - there were only 3 oyster choices. This was disappointing as we were trying to get a variety of oysters. We did order the three they had that night, plus an pork belly dish. The oysters were alright; nothing special. Loved the pork belly dish with arugala. Cute spot, but would probably not visit again.

Joshua P.

Yelp
If you are looking for incredible service, fresh oysters, and a super unique and eclectic venue, then this is the place for you. And if you don't like oysters, their menu is quite expensive for other offerings as well. They have good specials for happy hour and the handmaid cocktails are fantastic as well. A true, fantastic place

John P.

Yelp
No surprise why this place has such great reviews, it's the whole package! Zack greeted me with a sincere kindness. I came in for the salmon, but it was replaced by an amazing halibut. I started with a mix of the oysters, which were outstanding. The halibut and pickled fennel was so good. Portions were perfectly sized so I could enjoy the entire menu and not over due it. Service with Zack was great. The place looks like it would be loud, but it was just perfect. Strong recommend if you are in Bellingham!

Yelp
We went last night for diner and it was delish ! The staff was very nice and helpful. I recommend this restaurant

Jeremy W.

Yelp
Outstanding happy hour menu! Ordered the oysters, beet salad, pork tacos, ahi with daikon and edamame, mussels, and a Paloma. All items were delicious and the HH prices were right! Service was wonderful - attentive, prompt, warm and friendly. I was worried we'd need reservations, even for an early start, but we were good w/o. At opening at 4 pm on a Saturday there were quite a few tables already there upon our arrival, but again, all was good.

Chris L.

Yelp
Great food, ambience, and service. Beef carpaccio and steak absolutely scrumptious. Great date night spot and if you appreciate quality in food, come here. Bright, colorful, and well seasoned dishes!

Larry F.

Yelp
Oysters are great; FOOD is TERRIBLE! Meat was inedible--could hardly be sawed cut with a steak knife. The presentation was the only lovely part of anything we ordered. The food quality was truly POOR. Order the oysters and then get out!!

Aliza C.

Yelp
We had a great family dinner here at Rock and Rye last Sunday. We are not local to the area so discovering their All Day Happy Hour (HH) on Sundays was an awesome find. The restaurant is easy to locate and street parking is available directly in front. I like that they take reservations via Yelp, even though it didn't work for me. I had to call in but we decided to show up right when they opened as well. There's no way we were going to miss HH oysters on our last night in Bellingham! The food was absolutely delicious and fresh. We ordered 3 dozen HH Judd Cove oysters, 1 dozen Samish Beauty oysters, HH beef carpaccio, HH brussel sprouts, fish & chips, and 3 (or 4?) orders of HH mussels. The customer service was also friendly and attentive. We definitely left with full bellies and smiles. I highly recommend EVERYTHING we ordered.

Yelp
We heard that this is the place for oysters in town. We stopped by at 4:30 to try the happy hour menu. Ordered Boulevardiers, a dozen Salish Pearl oysters, mussels and Brussel sprouts. Drinks were good, oysters were fresh, sweet. The brussel spouts were halved and DEEP fried along with 4 pieces of pork back fat (just okay). We ended up sending the mussels back- They just were off(smell & taste) mealy not our flavor favorite, certainly not Brittany. The chef did let us know that this is the dish & how it is supposed to be, so it was us not them. Bartender was fine, didn't refill our water glasses. The restaurant is in one of the old brick store front. Nice character. The hostess was lovely.

Christine S.

Yelp
Food is amazing. Place is super nice and trendy. Customer service is great. I'd recommend this place to anyone visiting Bellingham.

Nolan L.

Yelp
Rock and Rye is a favorite date spot for my wife and I. The staff are all super friendly and ver attentive. The oysters are outstanding and always fresh. They also offer a variety of other menu items as well. The Ribeye steak is my favorite.

Brad B.

Yelp
Brought daughter here for her birthday dinner at beginning of school year @ WWU. She got the burger which looked great! Judging by the way her eyes rolled back in her head when she took a bite she agrees! Wife got the raw oysters, I got the fish & chips, which were yummy too, if a bit greasy. We got several sides to share. Presentation was fabulous, and service very attentive. A great find!

Kristen B.

Yelp
We were in town for a college visit, and oysters drew us to this establishment; but there are plenty of other options. 'Small plates' provided good portions -- everything tasted wonderful. Staff were friendly and efficient... even the other customers were friendly! Restaurant very pleasing to the eye - so for our one night out in Bellingham, we were happy!

Bill S.

Yelp
Fun brasserie type restaurant. Great oysters. Menu has lots of imitions. Great wine and drink choices. We will go back next time we are in Bellingham.

Thomas H.

Yelp
Mediocre.... casinos have better oysters... the oysters came out on rocks that were barely cold. The Moscow Mule is probably the worst I've had... Would not recommend and I wont be back, but the Service wasn't bad.

G C.

Yelp
holy smokes literally an S Tier burger on god mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm scrumptious food

Cortney C.

Yelp
Every time we visit Bellingham we stop at Rock and Rye for dinner. We've eaten at a lot of oyster bars up and down the west coast, Rock and Rye's are hands down the best ones. The food is always amazing, and the staff is attentive and friendly.

Brea J.

Yelp
When I walked in the door I stood at the host stand for maybe 8 minutes and was not acknowledged at all which was strange for them to not be busy. When the hostess finally walk over she didn't even look in my direction but instead she looked passed me at the family that was waiting for their table. I wasn't expecting to jump the line but she could have let me know she'd be back in a second to seat me or something. The old white lady that was being seated with her family looked at me and said "she could have at least acknowledged you." So it wasn't just me? Once she finally came back she told me she's have to look for a place for me because there was tons on reservations (I was a party of one). After a while I was seated and the whole time I was there. They were empty. Multiple tables were empty. I'm not sure if she was just bad at her job or anti-black. I'm going with the latter. I felt like I didn't belong. My waitress was sweet and so was the lady setting the tables. If you're black, don't let this be your first choice.

Dakota R.

Yelp
Beautiful summer supper on the patio balcony! Delicious golden beet salad, street corn, and Tataki Ahi Tuna openers. Even tastier halibut entree with fingerlings! Service was swift, precise, and attentive.

Matthew J.

Yelp
Fancy, expensive, & fantastic. Everything is high quality. This is one of those places you would take your out of town friends to.

Eric C.

Yelp
Order the beef tartare, a true treat. Great service and a fun location. We always look forward to stopping here in our travels, sometimes even twice. Good for a quick bite or a lingering meal. Cute and centrally located.

Miles K.

Yelp
We drove up to Bellingham just to check this place out and we were not disappointed. They have a great selection of fresh oysters and 3 ways of preparing them (besides raw on the half shell). The Rockefeller and pan fried options were the standouts. Their Ribeye is also amazing. They also have some very delicious drink specials and a very friendly staff. They have a beautiful patio in the back and a very classy bar. We cannot wait to go back. Be sure to drop in and check it out for yourself!

R V.

Yelp
Food was disappointing. Server was more concerned about if we had an Uber than the fact that she removed a plate full of food that was awful. In fact she didn't even ask why the food was untouched. Yes, we relied we have an Uber and while I appreciate her concern it was off putting that her concern wasn't all encompassing of our experience. Used to be our go to place but it's going downhill.

Davis A.

Yelp
Great chef with lots of creative variations on dishes. Friendly, helpful service. Cozy environment, although kinda loud.

Rudy S.

Yelp
By far the best Carpaccio I have had in years. No restaurant in any major city came even close. This item on the menu isn't to be missed. I ended up ordering 2 ! Besides the outstanding Carpaccio I loved the service and also the other food items. Oysters Rockefeller are excellent. Absolutely recommend this restaurant.

Kiera M.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and wonderful service! I had an excellent cocktail from the menu and we shared some shishito peppers to start! I ordered the black miso cod from the small plates menu and my Fiancé ordered the fish and chips. All were delicious, nothing really blew me out of the water. I will definitely be back to try more items from the menu and have some oysters!

Emily K.

Yelp
Rock and Rye has the best food I have ever eaten in Bellingham. The halibut is probably the best fish I have ever had, and the chocolate torte is now officially one of my favorite desserts of all time.

Bailey S.

Yelp
Amazing food, drinks, & service! ordered the mussels, oysters rockafeller, and the poutine with pork belly everything was delicious! typically i don't like cooked oysters but gave it a shot & it blew my mind so incredible :)

Mindy P.

Yelp
Fabulous date night place. Happy hour menu is amazing and cocktails and service are excellent.

Heidi M.

Yelp
Came in on a Thursday night. Friendly waitstaff. Started with a do zen oysters, they were great! I order the mussel entree and they were delicious. My son ordered fish and chips and he said they were excellent. Clean bathrooms, lots of parking. We will be back soon.

Audrey S.

Yelp
Only open Wednesday to Sunday so don't just drop in, but boy is this a find. Fresh oysters $18 for 6, ($15 during happy hour), great happy hour (4p- 6p Wednesday Thursday, Friday & Sunday) with mussels, oysters, poutine, Mexican corn. Grilled oysters - Rockefeller & Green curry- very tasty. Lots of fun cocktails and good wines. Outdoor seating in back. Staff friendly and welcoming.

Kay M.

Yelp
My husband & I enjoyed an exceptional dinner at Rock & Rye!! We had a quiet romantic table in the corner on the outdoor balcony, on a sunny afternoon. Our server Christoph was FANTASTIC!!! He was super attentive, Professional & personable without being intrusive & his dinner recommendations, spot on!! The FOOD, was OMG, OMG, super Tasty, unique, tender, moist & down right mouth WATERING delicious!!! We had THE BEST date, THANK YOU R & R!!!!

Oscar I.

Yelp
Atrocious in all aspects. Food delivered by US Foods. Halibut was dry. Fried fish Now with bones. The ginger beer tastes like toilet water. Nice room?

Casey C.

Yelp
Really good oysters and drinks! Service was greatly good as well. Definitely a top notch happy hour spot.

Pamela H.

Yelp
This is my favorite restaurant in Bellingham. I bring all my out of town guests here. First, if you want to go to a restaurant and have service like it was before Covid this is your place. Service is impeccable. Servers float around making sure everyone and everything is taken care of. Second, is the food. I have my favorites that I continue to have over and over. For apps, I always go for the carpaccio. It is a large portion served with dollops of a horseradish cream, capers and tiny greens. Ask for bread on the side. It comes toasted with the perfect crunch yet moist on the inside. It's an absolute with the carpaccio. They also have great oysters. Third, their house or beet salad are both creative and fresh. Go for what you're in the mood for. Now for the entree. I have only had the halibut here. It is divine. They know the perfect crust. You don't need so work hard to break through. The times of your fork will break it and go into the moist inside of the fish. It is pure heaven in your mouth. The portion is right on. Not too small. The sides can change but always go well, usually asparagus and a starch. Top it all off with a nice bottle of Pinot and you will leave feeling perfectly satisfied and ready to face the evening. I highly recommend this place.

Alvin G.

Yelp
Plenty of restaurants around town cook a juicy, tender and flavorful well done steak. Unfortunately, in my experience, Rock and Rye is either unwilling or incapable of this feat. On three separate occasions over the years my "well done" steak was not only not well done, but was more red than pink. I'm fine if a chef has a moral objection to well done steaks, as so many in society do, but they should be up front about it and refuse the well done order. I only have myself to blame for giving them a second and third chance, but I won't make that mistake again.

Dave J.

Yelp
My wife and I had a delightful dinner in the patio. Every dish was delicious as usual and presented as elegantly as it was tasty. The ganache covered flourless chocolate torte served with raspberry coulis and fresh whipped cream, the best chocolate dessert in Whatcom county if not the state. Service was very attentive and well trained. Beef Carpaccio was delicious as well as all the oysters, raw and baked.
