Rocky Gap State Park, Maryland, Guide

"A roomy campground serving outdoor enthusiasts with both electric and non-electric sites as well as rustic camper cabins and a yurt; sites fill quickly during peak season so advance reservations are advised. The campground’s layout connects easily to nearby trails and lake access and accommodates pets at many sites." - Trudy Haywood Saunders Trudy Haywood Saunders Trudy Haywood Saunders is a writer and editor based in North Carolina. It's been years since I have been here. (Many great memories with the boy scouts here.) It was a different and wonderful experience this time. The campsites are wonderful, maintained, and well covered by beautiful mother nature. There are nice paths and trails to walk. Do be aware of the immense amount of poison ivy. It is as close to two feet from some campsites. The waterfront beach area is so great. They have kayaks, canoes and row boats for rent. That's legit!! Nice, clean and graded sand. The views are spectacular. Especially if you are a photographer. The playground and playground area is ideal. There is nice shade as well from the trees. There are a few cool pavilions for use. You do have to reserve those. The store is extremely convenient. There's always that one item that you forget. Worry no more that store is clutch!

Rocky Gap Casino and Golf Resort is beautifully situated off I68. The property is gorgeous with a lake and surrounding forest. It would have been a perfect getaway except for a few things: 1) the outdoor speakers drowning out the sounds of nature, 2) the dirty windows blocking the beautiful scenery, and 3) the loud HVAC in the room that drowned out any silence while you were sleeping or the television or even talking... it was so LOUD. Otherwise, a visit here is totally worthwhile. Hopefully they will renovate soon and make the aforementioned corrections to make it the perfect place to visit for golfing, gambling, relaxing at the spa, getting a bite to eat, hiking, or just chilling by the lake.

Rocky Gap State Park is a great spot for a peaceful day outdoors. The park is very clean and well-maintained, with large restrooms that were spotless during our visit. There are plenty of stations to grill and relax, giving you lots of options depending on the size of your group. Parking is easy with a spacious and well-organized lot, and I really appreciated the dedicated trash storage—no need to carry bags home. There’s a wide range of activities available, whether you're looking to hike, enjoy the water, or just sit back and take in the scenery. It’s a great place to disconnect from the noise and reconnect with nature. Highly recommend for families, couples, or solo visits. Will definitely be coming back.

Great park with a beautiful lake and trails. I stayed at camp sites and it was very nice. The bathrooms were clean. Wished they had primitive camping sites, away from the crowded camp areas. Also the lake was quite noisy overnight from planes or boats running overnight. doesn't feel super secluded. Feels more like a resort. But overall, a pleasant experience!

Always our favorite spot to camp. We’ve been camping at the same spot since I was a child (I’m 28 now with a husband and baby)!! We took our daughter camping for the first time and had so much fun. The bathrooms are always clean. There are family bathrooms for the kiddos. The staff are always kind and helpful. Never a bad thing to say!

I try to come to Rocky Gap Casino and Resort twice a year to relax. This time was no different. I always have the best time chilling and meeting new people. The staff is always so nice and the patrons are just as nice and friendly. I would like to acknowledge one particular staff person. Keenan, hopefully I spelled his name right, was the young man at the coffee shop in the morning. He was sooo welcoming, and his kindness made my day. Thank you, Rocky Gap, for a calm and relaxing 2 days.

Great view of the lake from my room on this trip today. Had lots of fun in the casino here and the spa staff was awesome. I ended up having breakfast and dinner here the value was good for both meals. I wasn't able to eat most of the breakfast as the potatoes came with peppers and onions and I'm allergic to them but that was my fault for not asking about it as I'm used to the places I visit at home not coming with them. The dinner was great I had a steak and some wine the steak was delicious and the wine pairing was on point. I'm looking forward to the next visit to the spa as it's hard to find good spas for men to enjoy.

It's a beautiful place it truly is but the beach is unsettling! mostly due to all the POOP...Goose poop There was sooo much that it was hard to enjoy the beach or lake not only due to the poop but the odor of ammonia. Prior to noticing the poop I snapped a picture of the lake & actually got a pile of it in the picture 🫣 On the other hand the Lakeside Grill was excellent with friendly service & the food was good. I didn't stay here it was just a day trip I did see a smaller private beach for guests that looked clean ⛱️ behind the resort
