Having just arrived in Medellin, we first stumbled upon Rocoto for our first meal. Elevated from the street and surrounded by greenery, you can't help but feel like you have stepped into the jungle. The rushing stream below only adds to the effect.
As we were just off a plane, drinks came first. They take their Pisco Sours seriously, so we ordered a Pisco Basil Mash and a glass of Albarinio. The minute I saw they had squid ink empanadas, I had to try those, and they did not disappoint. The black masa exterior was as impressive as the delicious filling. The next obvious choice was the ceviche, followed by a Causa. This multi-layered potato dish is served cold and features a unique filling; ours featured avocado and two types of chicken decorated with a dynamite sauce. This causa was DYNOMITE!
While we were clearly in Medellin, Colombia, we felt transported to Lima, Peru. Rocoto is an excellent spot to try something authentic and different from the local cuisine.
