This place is amazing! Great people! One of the few places that does kids cuts and actually makes your kid look good! I took my 3 year old and Jay Woody was so great with him. I got to have a beer, the whole experience and atmosphere was awesome. I had already been here before for beers and some live music, so knew I liked it. But the way they all handled bringing my kid in was above and beyond!

Amanda was really careful with the scissors. She was precise in her work and handled my hairs professionally. About the shop - I would like to go when there is live music. The shop has a bar. Parking - Street Parking

Google
dropped by and got lucky to have someone available to cut 9 year old son's hair. Friendly place and great haircut so I went back for my own cut. My son wants it to be his regular barber now. Booking is a breeze through their website.

Google
This is my go to barber in the city. Lots of stylist available and you can't beat the decor.I found this place about two years ago, and haven't gone anywhere else to get a haircut since. You can have drink there while having your hair cut. Trek has been cutting and styling my hair and beard for the past the last 2 years and I don't think I would go anywhere else. The Price is not cheap but reasonable for all the amazing service that they provided. Highly recommend this shop.

Google
This business is awful. Rude and inappropriate employees. When I called tonight, they asked what I was wearing ??? Gross. Employees are too concerned with smoking outside excessively and causing extreme late noise noise for neighbours after hours. Employees are constantly outside smoking cigarettes (against bylaws and right outside residential entrances),that make you gag trying to walk by, let alone walk in. The smell is overwhelming. It was hard to overcome trying to go in for service. The staff are unprofessional and charge way too much for an underwhelming haircut. My partner refused to come back after one visit and was not impressed. Several times noise complaints have been issued and they seem more concerned about being a party house than a contributing business in this neighbourhood.

I go here all the time for haircuts. It is my favorite because the staff are nice and friendly, I can have a drink when I get my haircut, and I just love the vibe of the place. A big plus was bringing my father, who is in his 90s and in a wheelchair, to the shop twice. They were accommodating both times and loved to hear his stories about when he was a hairdresser in the 1960s. While Ken is the one who usually cuts my hair, I have also had excellent service from Paula, Jimmy and Jay. Absolutely love that this place exists.

Google
I got the worst haircut I had in the last 5 years, I can’t remember the name of the guy who cut my hair but when I went back to ask for a refund, since the haircut he gave me literally looked horrible and nothing like what I asked for, he flat out told me he wouldn’t but offered to give me a new one (not for free) with an attitude and bad manners, on top of it all! He even told me “I’m telling you it’s good and I’m not arguing with you” and just walked off in that moment, but did came back to mockingly say “I’m reeeally sorry you didn’t like the cut, bro”. The owner was there but he wasn’t very helpful, based on everyone’s reactions I am guessing they are related. I showed everyone there the same photo of what I wanted and everyone hesitantly just said it “kinda did look alike, just a bit shorter in some areas”. To give you an image, It was so bad that when I got back home my sister GASPED and said I would be better off simply shaving it all off at this point cuz it looked as if a donkey bit off chunks of hair, it was THAT bad! At the end, the owner agreed to ask another barber to fix my hair. I won’t be going back there, worst experience ever, worst customer service! The guy seemed kind of new at it, the issue could’ve easily been avoided had he admitted he didn’t know how to do it and leave someone else to it. The only salvageable thing from this experience was the second barber, who was very nice and apologized for the whole thing, and did shave it all off.

Google

Yelp
A barber shop by day and a bar by night with live music. Has a rustic/farm vibe to it. The drinks are decently priced and strong. The washrooms have blackboards with chalks so you can leave a sassy message or your number for the next patron ;) A great place for a date

Yelp
I've been coming here for years, and it's still my favourite place to go for a cut. The staff loves to chat over a pint, but they're also great at showing off those barbering skills! I recommend Rod, Gun & Barbers to everyone looking for a new place to call home, and my dad still talks about how much he enjoyed his cut here.

Yelp
Very underwhelming for the price point on a mens trim. Customer service was lacking also.

Yelp
Fun experience! I got 'The Gentleman' as a birthday gift to myself - a bourbon, haircut, and a cigar. The staff was super friendly and chatty. Give it a try!

Peter G.

Yelp
Came in for my appointment on time. At which point the professional gentleman notified me that my hair is too thick and because I have product in it, they cannot cut my hair. It's a first time in my life ever to get turned down for a haircut. I am not sure how these hippies are still in business..

Yelp
First item: Bad reviews not warranted. This place is great. Here's the deal: it's a barber shop. No frills and no gimmicks. No hipsters either. I'm not sure where people are getting the hipster idea, but they're incredibly misinformed. The guys here are indeed all fine barbers. They all take great pride in their appearance and their work. The atmosphere is light and fun the prices are fair. Frankly, I'm glad that the dorks who left bad reviews won't be back... I don't want to get my haircut sitting next to a fuddy duddy. IMO, the staff and customers are great and I'm always happy with my fade.

Yelp
Been here 3 times now and loved each time I've been. The place is small and intimate as it's a barber shop during the day which changes to a bar with live music on Friday and Saturdays. 2/3 times I've been here were on a Friday and we saw a great singer who has an adorable golden retriever. The music is catchy but not too loud that you can't talk or hear each other. The bartenders here are awesome! If you tell them what kinda things you like they will come up with a delicious drink for you. I haven't had a bad drink here yet! They have gender neutral single stall washrooms in the back which feature chalkboard walls and yes the chalk is included. They also have Nintendo at the end of the bar that you can play on one of the big screen tv's as long as there isn't a hockey game or something like that on. Overall the place has a very relaxed, mellow vibe. Great place to relax and take in a game or some music.

Yelp
Guys just randomly cancelled an appointment I had booked for a week. Have an important event the following day as well, really screwed me over. Not trust worthy - Update, guy called and explained there was a family emergency, and offered my a free Hair cut and Beer for the inconvenience. Nicest thing I've ever been offered by a barber

Yelp
Having read an article on this place and always in search of the best barber shop I was intrigued by a barber shop with a bar.The trendy look of nouveu shops is hackneyed and played out now but it is what it is.I rang and asked who was their best barber? They replied " we are all fine barbers here sir", I said Of course but if you had to say who is the best barber who would it be? He said "Since it is your first time here ,I will put you with our master barber",I said great and could hardly wait. The list of the tragedy's that befell my hair is too long to write, but this is by far the single worst haircut, fade, lineup or anything in the country if not the world.Avoid this hipster gimmic shop at all costs.Got an Uber straight to another shop and after they laughed and stopped taking pictures they spent an hour just fixing the fade as the top was too badly cut and too short to fix.

Yelp
The Canadian in me hates to leave a bad review... but here it is anyway. This is actually a nice place, they serve good beer and the atmosphere is very proper for a barber shop. Makes you want to hang out there for a bit. I went in asking for the utmost basic beard trim. Only reason why I went there tonight was because I didn't have my own clipper with me. A simple trim-that-beard-to-#1 type of thing. Well I got out of there with a little more than an oversized sideburn (I'm exaggerating here). When I asked to shorten the beard up a bit it ended up all the way to my chin and I mean practically on my chin. The guy felt so bad that he graciously offered to pay for the cut even when I insisted to pay. I ended up giving him 5$ tip anyways cause I actually felt bad for him (I know weird). Oh and I paid my draft beer 7$. Not the kind of place I would recommend for a cut.

Yelp
TL;DR Second time at a barbershop, great experience, cool people, excellent haircut. I went into this place looking to get a haircut, not sure exactly how I wanted it cut, but a haircut none the less. I booked my appointment online through there website and received an email confirmation not too long afterwards. I chose my barber and my time and it worked great. I arrived and walked in to see some neat decor. There were old pictures and paintings on all of the walls that gave a kind of pop's basment cave vibe. It had some antlers and other animals on the wall with other photos of hunting and fishing. There was also a humidor for Cigars and a bar to boot! I walked past the barbers cutting and shaving hair and went up to the bar where I was greeted nicely by a staffmember (the name eludes me at this time). He asked if I'd like a drink and I started with a water. I then asked for a steam whistle to which I received in a very neat Rod + Gun stein glass with a top to it! It was interesting to drink from but also neat so that you don't have to worry about hair getting in your drink. (not saying that they cut hair like the tasmanian devil from Lonney Tunes, but just a neat precaution). Once it was 1:30PM it was my time for my cut. I was sat down on the barber chair and asked about my cut. We figured out the best option and went for it. It didn't take all that long, and my Barber was nice and we had a great conversation. The cut was great! Adam cut my hair to a great length, and also offered to put some pomeade in too (which wasn't extra as I asked beforehand, which was nice). He then also used the straight razer to shave the hair on my neck. He cut around my ears nicely and all in all was a solid cut. After all was said and done, I finshed my beer and paid and left. Great experience and will be going back again sometime.

Yelp
Rod and Gun is a fun place for a haircut, shave, and drink. While I am leery of hipster-ish places, Rod and Gun is laid back, welcoming and downright enjoyable. Whether it is the mildly tacky decor or the friendly, professional staff, Rod and Gun delivers a great hair cut in a fun atmosphere. I have been very pleased with both haircuts I have had here. For 32$ you can have a haircut and a beer. They also offer bourbon, if you are so inclined. They put the beer in a stein to avoid random hair clippings finding their way in there during your cut. Book your appointment time on their website. Note that the more popular barbers are sometimes booked up days or weeks in advance. If you just want a beer, drop in and sit at their small bar. If you don't want to drink, a haircut is 25$.

Yelp
My kids wanted me to get a mohawk, but as 41 year old adult that wasn't a realistic hair cut. The phohawk I got there was a happy compromise and I look like I'm in my early 30s again.

Yelp

Yelp
I have been going to Rod, Gun & Barbers for about 2.5 years now, since I moved into the neighbourhood. I bounce back & forth between both locations the Junction & Parkdale, each time I get my hair cut. I live closer to the Junction location, but I grew up living in both Parkdale & Bloor West Village, & Chris at the Parkdale location is great,so I like to visit Parkdale from time to time. Let me start by saying I have never gotten a bad cut from either location, and I have got a lot of cuts by everyone on staff over the last 2.5 years. The reason I'm just now writing a review, is today I got the best cut I have had at Rod, Gun & Barber. I had Stephanie at the Junction location. I get my haircut short, for me when you get your haircut short, it all comes down to blending. All my cuts at both locations have been good, this one was great because of the blending. Stephanie is meticulous when it comes to blending, and she is great at it. Haircut aside she was very happy go lucky & nice to talk to, which always makes your experience a little nicer. It's hard to find someone who gets your hair just the way you want it, so now that I have, Stephanie will be my permanent go to at Rod, Gun & Barbers for my haircuts from here on out. I have the Parkdale location booked for June 9th (my wedding day), to treat my groomsman to a cut, shave, shot, pint & a cigar the morning of the wedding. I booked this through Chris the owner, who is great, very friendly & welcoming. I will be going to see Stephanie prior to my wedding for my cut, but I know my groomsman are in good hands the day of the wedding, as all the staff at both locations are very friendly & great at what they do. If you live in the neighborhood, this is definitely the barber shop you should be going to, I recommend both. Have a beer, have a shot, get a great haircut in good company, what more can you ask for!!

Yelp
Cool idea to have a barber shop in a bar. Didn't get a pint but maybe next time I will...

Jay A.

Yelp
This isn't so much a barbershop as it is a bunch of hipsters with scissors. This place is total amateur hour. I went twice, once for a shave, and again for a beard trim. The shave was not close at all (I get a closer shave with Mach 3 razors at home) and left me covered in blood (literally). The beard trim was completely uneven -- the cheek lines were crooked, the neck line was crooked, and the moustache was crooked. In both cases, the "barbers" even looked like they didn't know what they were doing. Sure, it's kinda interesting inside. It's kinda cool that you can get drinks (though I suspect this is just their way of ensuring you're not paying attention), and all that Canadiana is easy on the eyes. But remember: Your visit will last only 30 minutes; your shitty haircut will last for months.

Yelp
This is a great place with great atmosphere. I love the booze with your haircut but when it comes down to it the short and neat haircut I wanted was neither. It's too bad as I want to love this place.

Yelp
My husband took my 2.5 year old son for a hair cut here yesterday. I would give the Rod, Gun & Barbers shop more stars, but I can't bring myself to due to the first negative I describe below. I am more than willing to give them 3 or even 4 stars if the first negative is resolved. Positives: My son was good, he sat pretty still, and the cut looks great. The stylist who cut his hair was really friendly and seemed to be great with kids. The atmosphere in the shop is unique and interesting Negatives: Not accepting credit cards or debit, although they have an ATM in the store that charges $2.50 for the transaction on top of whatever your bank charges to use an ATM. In our case this was an additional $1.50. So in the end the haircut cost $28 ($20 for the haircut, $4 tip and $4 in bank fees) which in my opinion is rather steep for a kid's cut. Aside from the high cost to us, I can't help but wonder who benefits from having a cash only system, and not accepting debit, but having an ATM in teh shop. Statistically, it costs businesses more per transaction to accept cash than to accept debit (25 cents vs. 19 cents according to the CBC article you can find by googling "Card costs: who pays what to whom" ). And even if it cost them slightly more thank 19 cents, it in no way will cost them the $4 it cost us to withdraw this money. I realize that someone is making a lot of money from ATM fees, since a lot of people don't carry cash anymore, but regardless of whatever the Rod, Gun & Barbers shop is gaining from this system (if anything) I would suggest they strongly re-consider accepting at the very least debit. The second of negative was that when calling to inquire about children's haircuts my husband was told that they have a policy where if the child is acting up they won't do the haircut. I feel like most parents understand this, and didn't think it was necessary for it to be spelled out like this, as it can add even more anxiety to an already potentially stressful situation for the parent.

Yelp
one word -chop job. If you want the army look and don't mind looking like your barber had one too many - go ahead, ask for Chris. He did not listen despite pretty good, long explanation of what every barber should know in the first place - classic men's cut.
google avatar

Yelp
Really nice place, great bunch of guys working there. Grab a beer, watch the game, and get a cheap haircut.

Step F.

Yelp
Adam is the dude. Boy cuts hair like MC Lite spits science. Big love brother. Continued success. And if you have the time try to make use of those old school Wahl Seniors. They won't let you down. Peace.

Mark E.

Yelp
Simply put, these guys are not good barbers. And frankly, the bar is tacky and unnecessary. It's also overpriced. They do seem like nice guys but that won't save this place. I have been here around a half dozen times. Five of the haircuts I received were awful and one was passable. The only reason I kept returning is because I work long hours and they're open late. I will never go back again.

Mitch T.

Yelp
Chris gives an amazing cut! Attention to detail and always listens to what I want. Have also had cuts/beard trims from Jimmy, Jay, and Adam and they were all great! And you've got to love a barbershop where you can hangout and have a drink.

Carson J.

Yelp
shittiest place you can get your haircut dont go i went on impulse as nothing was open and i asked for a specific length and the barber jimmy blaitenly ignored what i said and fucked my shit up. never going back and if you havent ever been DO NOT GO. barber(s) cant follow simple instructions.
