Roemakhoe Heritage Hotel was my favourite hotel on my recent Java-Bali trip. Although it's a bit far from the train station, it is in a nice area, close to Kampung Batik Laweyan, close to lovely cafes, restaurants, batik places, spa... a perfect location for visitors.
It is a lovingly restored historic property - I loved the atmosphere and the wonderful rooms and common rooms - like living in a museum, but with the right amount of comfort. My room was a little dark due to the wooden shutters, but cool and comfortable. Bathroom had a bit of patina which did not bother me at all.
My only slight problem was the noise coming from the street, even late at night and in the early morning, as it is on a fairly busy street - it is adviseable to bring ear plugs if you are sensitive. Also, there is no pool as this is a historic property.
The Western breakfast (50k IDR) was simple with limited choice but tasty.
Other than that, the room, with its nice big bed, nice mattresses and linen was very comfortable, and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay.
