These Are the 8 Candies That Are Pure Canada

"First produced by Charles Rogers at his eponymous candy shop that opened in 1885 in Victoria, these two‑bite Victoria Creams pair a thick, bittersweet chocolate disk with an ultra‑sweet, creamy flavored center; there are now 20 flavors (including strawberry, caramel, ginger, and maple), and the candies date back to the Victorian era." - Karon Liu

I was so excited to finally visit Roger’s Chocolates in BC. We’ve been fans for years and always order their chocolates from Toronto, especially for Christmas gifts. Walking into the store felt magical, like stepping into a little chocolate fairyland. For anyone who loves chocolate, this place is a dream, and the quality is just as amazing as ever.✨

Google
Rogers' Chocolates is a heritage chocolatier with deep roots in Victoria, known for its beautifully packaged confections and historic storefront. Stepping inside feels like entering a time capsule, with mahogany cabinets, vintage charm, and the unmistakable aroma of rich chocolate. The selection includes their classic Victoria Creams, truffles, and seasonal assortments. Prices are on the premium side, but it’s less about quantity and more about a refined, nostalgic indulgence. Worth a stop if you appreciate tradition and craftsmanship in your sweets.

It was packed because I just got off the shop but it was very easy to order what I wanted which was just the ice cream. I love the almond brittle. So good.

The quality of their chocolates really surprised us. I think my husband said it best. I mean, who knew that Canada had such great chocolate? The Heritage Store was closed when we arrived during our BC Bites & Sights tour. Fortunately, we were able to see some of it through the window. It's an architecturally historic building & shop. It was a treat just to see the old wooden built-in shelves, leaded glass decor, and stained glass half dome entryway that appears to be a Queen Anne Revival style of Victorian architecture. I don't know, it could be a mixture of different styles. All I know is that we saw a lot of this during our tour. They saved us a rather large, and individually wrapped, vanilla cream chocolate as part of the tour. I'm not usually a fan of flavored cream chocolates. I remember getting stuck with that one piece of Russel Stover chocolate that nobody wanted. Well, this vanilla cream one was nothing like that. It's on a totally different quality level. Let's just say that we loved it so much that we placed a mail order of various flavors. My BYO 5 pack included flavors such as maraschino cherry, rum, coffee, blueberry, and dark peanut butter. I also bought a cute tin full of various types of chocolates. This assortment had a few of their signature Empress Squares as well. Everything is (or was) delicious! We're still going through the box. So far, we love all of them. The "Whale Song" by Dana Statham is a great keepsake. We saw whales when our cruise ship was entering Victoria Harbour. It's what I would have bought if the store had been open on that very late Friday evening. Heck, I probably would have bought more had it been open after 10:30pm. Maybe it's a good thing that it was closed. I saved the best for last. The prices are actually pretty decent. Get them while you're there. I can't say the same about their shipping fees to Florida (hot climate). They did arrive in great condition via FedEx. I'd order again, but it would only be once a year due to shipping costs. It's worth a visit when in Victoria.

A must stop if in Victoria. Yes it’s expensive but oh so worth it. The classic vanilla creams are world-class and the additional coffee and raspberry flavors we tried were incredible. A favorite of Queen Elizabeth’s and now a favorite of ours!

Delicious high quality chocolate. Quite expensive, but worth the price tag. We got a surprise bag, which has the reject chocolates, but tastes the same.

Google
Took a trip here as many tours I went on brought up the history of Rogers's chocolates and the famous Victoria cremes. I love how the moment you step in it's like being whisked away to an older time in history when the shop first opened in the early 1900s. On display were various gifts and boxes of chocolates artfully organized. Behind the counter were an assortment of Victoria cremes so I picked a few to try. Very pretty place to visit.

Google
super cute chocolate shop - it's been there forever! Their chocolate is extremely expensive but tastes quite good. Unfortunately the company has resorted to using inexpensive palm oil instead of higher quality and sustainable ingredients in many of their chocolates, so I only bought a bag of the almond bark (which was $20 for a 200g bag!) and left it at that. So sad when quality companies climb onto the inexpensive "palm oil" bandwagon.

Yelp
One of the oldest chocolate shops in Victoria. We love chocolate so had to stop in. It is a pretty small shop. They had a good selection and staff greeted us as we walked in. Prices are a bit high and we just got a couple of pieces. The chocolate was good but the coconut filling in my piece was a bit dry. Hubby got a Maraschino Cherry and headed said his was good.

Yelp
Beautiful products on the shelves were very enticing. We were on a cruise that was coming to an end, so I limited myself to a small bag of "Mystery Cream - seconds". I think that I've able to figure out most of the cremes that I've tried so far. I'm hypercritical on chocolate. My preference is Dark rather than Milk and I prefer a minimum of 72% cacao. Bittersweet is my jam. You will never see me eating a Hershey's Milk Chocolate Bar. For those with a sweet tooth, I think Roger's will float their boats!

Yelp
Had to stop in just to try the chocolate. It was very crowded. This raises the noise a bit. The decor is great. This is a small store but it is packed with a lot of choices.

Yelp
Best chocolates bar none! While on a trip I overheard several gentleman expounding the tastiest candies they buy in Vancouver and Victoria. I must agree! I picked up a selection for myself and my dog caretaker (my sister!) we both agree simply outstanding! Going back in December and hoping to grab several more! Yummm!

Jessica A.

Yelp
Cute store. Great selection. Delicious chocolates. Kind and patient and informative staff.

Yelp
Oh how I wish there could be a local Rogers' Chocolate store here in L.A. This place had delicious chocolates that I didn't even try until I got back on my cruise ship. The shop itself is super cute, the staff attentive, and the chocolates, delicious. Price points were very reasonable as well. I'd definitely come back here if I make it out to Victoria again!

Rosa C.

Yelp
Nice looking little shop but the employees acted like they resented being there, civil to downright rude and brusque.

Yelp
Love Rogers chocolates! First tried these when I received a box of truffles as a gift. So smooth, creamy, delightful! Walking into the store transforms you literally into a kid in chocolate heaven. Friendly staff and wonderful store.

Yelp
We were on a cruise and the ONLY thing I wanted to do was go to Rogers for chocolates! It was pouring rain but we made the trek and we were not disappointed! Even if you don't like chocolate the store is a must see!

Yelp
Really excellent chocolate!! I thought I restocked sufficiently but I've eaten too many already. Very high quality chocolate. Very worth it. Word to owners- the young man helping me swore (said "GD " but the actual words) when he was counting out my chocolates. First of all, is it that stressful? Secondly, it's chocolate which is similar to life and death, but it's not. Nonetheless, go here.

Yelp
Great place to bring back small souvenirs back home from Alaska/Victoria cruise. We got some chocolate covered cherries, blueberries, and nuts. Exchange rate from usd to cad was favorable so visiting here was a no-brainer. Popular and longstanding establishment.

Yelp
Very pleased to have visited this iconic chocolate shop. I must've ordered 20 individual chocolates for everyone I know. I love the decor, the ambiance, the cute employee uniforms, and of course the endless rows of chocolate. The employee that served me was patient and informative and very friendly. She advised me on which to get and which were most popular. Might be a tourist trap but it's absolutely a must if you're on the Island. I've tried two and i think the empress tastes just like a turtle and the Peanut butter like a Reese's. Excellent chocolates.

Yelp
The king and I needed some cheering up from the realities of the COVID nightmare. I ordered our favourite chocolates from Victoria, BC. Rogers. Before they couriered it to Ontario, they actually checked when cooler weather was forecast, AND PLACED AN ICE PACK IN THE BOX. This is a class organization. Expensive but you get what you pay for. Highly recommend this tried and true old Canadian company for their quality and attention to detail. Excellent gift-giving for out of country guests and/or gifts when traveling overseas. Sumptuous.

Yelp
Ok I should have stopped at 3 bars lol. Purchased 15 bars to take home lol. I found out later that it's one of the oldest chocolate store and it was brought back after a period of closure in its history. Worth stopping and getting your chocolate fix. Btw the young guy store employee is a great person to ask which ones you should buy and nice kid. He definitely needs a raise! Hint owner

Yelp
Fantastic chocolate shop with chocolates made right in Victoria. We purchased chocolate covered sea salt caramels, cherry chocolate cremes, dark chocolate almond brittle, and an advent calendar for December. Perfect stop to bring back souvenirs for your family, friends, co workers, etc.

Yelp
We were in Victoria, BC a few weeks ago and came up on this cute chocolate shop near the Empress Hotel and Chinatown. They tell me this shop is from the late 1800's and has shops throughout British Columbia. Further research noted that this was their "Heritage" store and the company was founded in 1885. Cool! The Interior reminded me of an old school chocolate shop with dark wooden shelves stacked high with boxes of chocolates. A glass display case also had individual pieces available for sale. The store clerk offered a piece of chocolate and gave me a fancy catalog (37 pages) listing seasonal and year-round available chocolates. I opted for a box of their Miniature Victoria Creams, Sea Salt Caramels, and Dark Chocolate Covered Gingers. Not being a chocolate connoisseur, I am ok with See's, Godiva, etc... I thought these chocolates were as good or better. I liked the Ginger the best while the wifey liked the Sea Salt Caramels. Eventually split the Caramels and Creams with my Bro and S-I-L. Just got around to eating... Overall, cute place, nice people, decent chocolates, and liked it because we weren't looking for the shop but came upon it accidentally. Those are usually the best finds!

Yelp
Great customer service. Been buying from this vendor for years/ Always /top quality products. Delicious hand made chocolates.

Yelp
I have been traveling to Victoria at least every other year, sometimes more often, for most of my six decades + life. Rogers' Chocolates is always a must-stop. All of our friends anxiously await the selections we bring back to them. First, you have to love the fact that you're dealing with a business that has been in the same shop since 1903! How many businesses to you know that have been behind the same front door for 116 years? The building is pretty much the same as it was built, and inside it looks just like an old-time chocolate shop. Secondly, Rogers is a Canadian company, with all of it's stores located in British Columbia, so you really are enjoying a local treat, not a global chain that happens to have stores there. Finally, the chocolates are unique and very good. They have a nice assortment, but the wife and I prefer the creme filled dark chocolates. Whenever we go up to Victoria, our friends give us orders for all their favorite fillings. They are super rich and go great with a nice, red wine or a cup of coffee. The staff is always friendly and helpful. We've never been ignored, nor do we feel rushed. If you're not heading up to B.C., I think you can order from their website, but not sure about that.

Jo F.

Yelp
The best thing about this place is the ambience. It's a charming chocolate shop. That being said, the chocolates are less expensive. But I took one bite and threw the other half away. It tasted like old ingredients, waxy chocolate, and I do not recommend it unless you just are desperate for a Chocolate Fix. The people weren't even very friendly, but that could just be a bad day.

Yelp
Charles"Candy" Rogers, the founder of Roger's Chocolate, created this divine chocolatier 125 years ago. The quaint shop on Government Street is a purveyor of gorgeous, divine chocolates. You can create a box of your own choosing, a difficult task, indeed. So many choices!

June E.

Yelp
Excellent quality my new favorite chocolate and the taste is amazing. Great customer service. The ambiance was top notch. Fair prices

Yelp
By far the best chocolates anywhere ! I ordered a few boxes to be delivered for Christmas. These gifts were very much enjoyed by my loved ones ! Unfortunately we had a very bad storm which affected the delivery of these parcels. Which lead to a little confusion on the delivery person. However everything and everyone had a happy ending and a very Merry Christmas! Thanks Roger's Chocolates Sincerely Aloma Watson
google avatar

Yelp
Oh my gosh! My first dose of Christmas spirit this year came in the form of the Rogers' Chocolates store. The window display is absolutely amazing - it's full of Christmas trees and little snowy village... and a train set, that is apparently owned by and maintained by the current Mr. Rogers himself. Although this is just a tiny little shop, it packs more holiday cheer and more chocolate into a space that I even thought possible. From truffles lining the walls and display cases to many a box of chocolates you can take home to your friends, there's something for everyone. I was on the hunt for a few gifts for some locals back here in San Diego, and I decided to pick up some Advent calendars. I love Advent calendars, but once filled with quality dark chocolate are the best. I really suggest that you get some if you're in the area. They actually stock both milk chocolate and dark chocolate options so you can take your pick. The service was super friendly and I had my boxes of chocolate under my arm quickly and with a smile. I wanted to stay in this chocolate shop forever, but I had to be on my way. Next time you're in Victoria make sure you put this on your bucket list.

Yelp
Oh boy. I'm going to sound like such a chocolate snob here. I am by no means a connoiseur of chocolate, but I do go out of my way to try a variety of chocolatier's where ever I can find them. So while Roger's chocolate may indeed be good chocolate, it's not good compared to what I have had before. In fact, it was shockingly bad. I was really excited to try this place out. Yelping it before I even made my way up from Seattle. I saw photos that made it look like the candy store from Willy Wonka. So I HAD to come. Associates were great. Very helpful. Nothing wrong with the overall experience and price was actually better than what I've spent before. But it just came down to the quality. And it wasn't there. It was even below See's candy and Godiva which is a pretty low bar in my book. See, told you I was going to sound like a snob. You hate me. I can tell. It's okay. I'd hate me too. My first mistake was getting the Cuba Libre, having forgotten that one night with my brother-in-laws bottle of Nicaraguan Rum that my family won't shut up about. I immediately looked at my wife, gave her an ugly face and shook my head. That was my bad. Roger's not to blame. But then I tried the salted caramel which should always be an obvious winner. But surprise again, I couldn't take a second bite. (In fact I'm looking at it now. And it's looking back at me with big sad puppy eyes... stop it salted caramel, you're creeping me out.) Unlike the salted caramel I get at Fran's in Seattle where I toss them in my mouth like popcorn and silently judge my inner fat boy for having zero will to stop myself from indulging until I cry myself to sleep in the fetal position due to severe abdominal pain. If you read this, (can't believe you got this far) and you do a bit of travel, or if you're just in the Seattle area, try Fran's chocolates (Seattle/Bellevue) or Leonidas (Portland/Sweden) And tell me I'm wrong. Order them online. I challenge you. It just doesn't compare.

Corky C.

Yelp
Their chocolates are great, no argument. However their shipping procedure has a lot of room for improvement. My issue: I order a box to be shipped to Nevada and unfortunately I provided an incorrect address and zip code. Rogers contacted me within one week of the order and I gave them the correct address and zip code. I presumed that all was well. I never received any kind of confirmation that the problem had been resolved and forgot to follow up. BIG MISTAKE. The original order was placed on March 7, 2023. I contacted the recipient today, April 13th, and was informed that no package had arrived. I contact Rogers and their customer service department said they would investigate. They called me back to say that the package had been held up at the border and they would see what they could do to resolve the issue. I questioned the decision to send a shipment of chocolate that was at least 6 weeks old and was informed that once it leaves their place it is considered a closed sale and their is no possible recourse. I then asked if that was their policy I would no longer be ordering from them and was told that I should do what I felt was appropriate. 1 hour later I was contacted by Rogers and informed that they would send out a new order, with a cold pack, considering the destination was Nevada at no additional cost to me. Wow, I don't know if they saw the previous review but I am happy to say that I will still continue to use them whenever the need arises.

Yelp
This falls somewhere between a 3 and a 4. Service was very friendly so I'll give it a 4. The chocolates are good, but not top notch. Definitely better than Chocolate Favoris (I bought some truffles there as well) but not quite as good as some of the top tier chocolates I've had. These most closely remind me of See's chocolates although I think See's may have the edge on flavor especially with their caramels. That could be bias talking. I grew up eating See's candy. I bought two caramels and four truffles. The quality of chocolate is very good. They have a nice thick chocolate shell on their candies. This is lacking in many places that make fancier truffles and think that a thin chocolate shell indicates a high level of craftmanship. I'm sure it does, but when I buy chocolates I want to taste chocolate. The inside should be pronounced but still a great complement to the chocolate flavor. The truffles and caramels here certainly deliver on the chocolate (and were sturdy enough to survive the trip home without a box). The flavors are not the most inventive, but they are pretty strong and distinctive. I ordered a rum chocolate and I could tell that this was probably that fake rum flavor. But I didn't care because I love that flavor (See's makes a stellar rum chocolate chew that is one of my favorite candies ever). The whisky chocolate and the sea salt caramel were also good. I love that this shop has been around for so long and the Christmas decorations were really festive. Prices are reasonable. I would recommend a visit.

Yelp
I am like a kid in a candy shop when I visit. So many choices, but I'm looking for the maple angle. The chocolate covered maple creams are incredible as well as the chocolate covered caramels.
google avatar

Audra D.

Yelp
Good chocolates cramped store. The chocolates are decent, a little overrated in my opinion but still pretty good. The store is ridiculously small for how many tourists come in here and you can barely turn around without bumping product or person. It makes the shopping experience very unpleasant and all you want to do is gtfo of there. Chocolate selection is limited considering that's all they sell. Overall a "meh" if not slightly aggravating experience.
google avatar

Bailey M.

Yelp
I walked past this store and it smelled so good, that I had to stop in. I had one piece of candy with almonds, caramel, and milk chocolate. It was so delicious! I also bought a plain chocolate candy bar and it was fantastic. i would highly recommend trying any of their chocolates!
google avatar

Susan B.

Yelp
This place is amazing! Rogers has been a family business since 1885. It's been in the same place since then. I bought several items there, all of which were delectably delicious. My favorite was the Wild Cherry Creme followed by the Strawberry Creme. These chocolate filled delights are FILLED to the brims with creme. Best I've ever had and I've had great chocolates from great chocolatiers around the world. I will definitely be returning to Rogers. I may even have some shipped to me.
google avatar

Opal D.

Yelp
Nice selection of chocolates. No samples offered to me, despite the friend who recommended this place stating that they'll give you samples to try so you know what you like. I just picked a few random things and got out of there--service was meh.
google avatar

Katie H.

Yelp
Very decent chocolates and nice place to stop for a little treat! We had $5 Canadian to use before leaving that night, so why not use it on truffles! My hubby stopped across the street for cigars, so now it was my turn. We'd already had dinner and dessert, so I definitely was interested in their small truffles, not their large ones. The two girls working in there were very friendly, helpful with all of my questions, and even offered samples of their Krispy bark. It was milk chocolate and delicious! I picked the orange truffle and the PB truffle. I was surprised that the orange wasn't chocolate inside, but a super sense and sweet white paste. And the PB was missing something....salt?
google avatar

Liz P.

Yelp
SUCH a large selection! And the staff will open up nearly any type of chocolate that you are eye-balling to give you a sample...even if there wasn't an open version of it already! I purchased the liquor flavored chocolate and the sea salt and caramel milk chocolate. It was inhaled once we got back to our room. Obviously it's a bit pricey considering they are elegant chocolates but well worth it, IMO!

Yelp
Wow Was here a few years back and remembered this shop Went to Alaska on a cruise and when we stopped at this port had to revisit Took a cab from the port to the shop as it is not a short walk by any means Paid $100 for 3 assortment boxes and took home to Arizona The quality was unbelievably superior and we consumed a box per week Folks....quality costs money and this shop is insanely superior

Yelp
How I heard of this place: When aboard the Victoria Clipper, a three-hour cruise across the Puget Sound, through the Straight of Juan de Fuca on our way to Victoria's Inner Harbour, I had a little time to peruse the Clipper Magazine. Many of our weekend activities and eateries came through this little publications' recommendations, among them Roger's Chocolates! Type of cuisine: "Rogers' Chocolates is steeped in tradition and a rich history that has earned us our reputation as one of Canada's premiere chocolate makers. The first Rogers' chocolates were made in 1885 by Charles "Candy" Rogers in the back of his grocery store in Victoria, B.C. He quickly became a popular man. In 1891, Rogers expanded his chocolate operation to the company's current heritage storefront on Government Street in Victoria and the rest, as they say, is history. Many of "Candy" Rogers' original recipes remain untouched since 1885 and form our "Classics" product line to this day." Ambiance: Warm tones and a rich, chocolatey aroma surround us as we enter the doors of the smallish, square space that is Roger's Chocolates on Government Street in downtown Victoria. Displays of chocolates, gift boxes set atop the glass and in the wooden vanities around the room delight the eyes and give the tastebuds something to water about. What I ordered: Known for it's Victoria Creams, we selected the three original flavors: chocolate, vanilla, and raspberry, as well as three that enticed our tastebuds: Maple Walnut, Caramel, and Lemon Chiffon. What I loved: So far, and including the night of our purchase, we have had a chance to sample three of the six. Between vanilla, chocolate and lemon chiffon, I enjoyed them most in reverse order. The sweet, light tang of the lemon chiffon against the dark chocolate was by far my favorite combination, followed by the dark richness of the chocolate. Why I loved it: Friendly chocolatiers, a store full of chocolate and late hours conducive to indulging in an almost-midnight snack. Cost: Average to high for a chocolate truffle/Victoria Cream (CAD$2.79 each)

Yelp
First of all I must admit that I love chocolate, every single day I eat chocolate. This store had plenty of selection of chocolates. Nicely wrapped and presented. The ones we tried were good. The customer service was just ok, that's the reason of the 4 instead of 5 stars.

Yelp
Calling all coffee crack addicts..... calling....calling........ ding ding ding BEST F'IN COFFEE THIS SIDE OF THE MISSISSIPPI.....hahhhaha Seriously yelpers, I can't tell you how much I've enjoyed their coffee. It doesn't taste burnt, or bitter. It tasted like heaven just exploded in my mouth, and did a cartwheel with spirit fingers.. it was that good... so good I came back three times for their coffee before I had to get back on our cruise ship. It was delicious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I need rogers now!!!!!!!! stat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's only the coffee, their speciality chocolates, and goodies were pricey but fun to buy for gifts(tourist trap).... Their coffee shop is more like a soda shop... like real soda water with syrup. For example this little 8 year old girl ordered a peach fizz; it consist of peach syrup with cherry syrup plus soda water and a big scoop of vanilla ice cream. If that doesn't sound like a little girls perfect beverage, I don't' know what does. Dish delish. :) Anyways, I love and hate rogers chocolates ltd. in so many ways - I love that it tasted like heaven, but hate that is not on every corner like my friend Mr. Starbucks

Yelp
The store is touted as being the best chocolate in Victoria so we had to check it out. My family bought samples of some of the candies and thought they were delicious. The maple cream was one of the favorites. Some were bought as a gift but didn't last. Fortunately, we spotted some at the Victoria airport to take home. One of the nice things, also, is the tins that they have for the candies. The tin for creams with a window was nice and there is a larger tin with an orca on it. They do make a nice gift but best to buy on the way home so that they will get there.
google avatar

Yelp
Aside from the yummy chocolates that we all know they are famous for... The store manager who assisted us was very knowledgeable of the history behind the chocolate mogul, Mr. Rogers. She had told stories from when the company had started down to the ghost stories in the store. Samples were given, if not, ask for some. Pieces we've tried and bought were oh so delish! Was I more motivated to buy the chocolate because of the history? Of course .

Yelp
It seemed like a popular place, since I saw a lot of advertisments of this place in brochures. I bought a box of their salted caramels and tried the hazelnut cream. The lady at the counter said they are know for their creams. It was very rich, but I was not impressed.
google avatar

Elle C.

Yelp
A staff member recommended their creams, which were smooth and tasty. We also purchased a box of assorted chocolates. While we enjoyed them, the candies didn't leave me immediately longing for more -- except when wanting to purchase gifts; then (thinking that I'd be able to easily find their chocolates... including at the airport), realized their shops were only in Victoria and Whistler's Village (both with limited hours).

Fair trade chocolate in Victoria BC? Check! This company has been located in this exact location for 99 years! They don't make the chocolate onsite anymore though since they have opened locations in Vancouver and some of the airports. The company because famous for their giant chocolate covered buttercreams. We're talking hockey puck sized. They come in a big assortment of flavors like vanilla, maple, and several berries too. They also do truffles, caramels, and giant peanut butter cups. The peanut butter cup in milk chocolate was divine. The center was a mixture of creamy and crunchy peanut butter. My wife got a chocolate covered caramel with toasted almonds. Both were our chocolate favorites, and both the size of hockey pucks. Each was around US$2.00.

Yelp
Good chocolate, HORRIBLE customer service. Hopefully you won't have any problems with your order like we did, but if you do don't expect anyone returning your phone calls. Even when I finally spoke to a live person, they said they would have the right person call back, but that never happened. What a frustrating experience! We'll never order from this company again.

Yelp
Love this place. Feels like you step back in time and is definitely a big part of the experience. The staff are very knowledgeable about the history of the store. The Victoria creams are amazing. Bought two, first was caramel cream, wow 9/10 and the second was the straight chocolate cream 8/10, very good just not as rich as the Carmel cream. This is my go to chocolate shop in Victoria. Can't go wrong.

Yelp
A piece of chocolate is $2.75. I knew I wouldn't be going back to Victoria anytime soon, so I decided to be a good tourist and pay a visit to Rogers' Chocolates. I'm not even that big of a chocolate fan. The lady recommended the maple cream (they are known for their Victoria creams) but I picked the ginger and hazelnut swirl creams. I remembered reading about the Empress Square as well, so I picked up two of those. An hour later after lunch, I tried the Empress Square and immediately returned to get another two. The caramel inside the square was perfect. SO GOOD. The creams are good (very rich; I have to share one), but not as good as the Empress Square. Definitely don't miss out on these chocolates while in Victoria.

Yelp
Everyone has their own vices... Mine happens to be chocolate. But not just any chocolate my friend, it's Rogers' Chocolate. I only get up to BC every couple of years, and every trip for as long as I can remember has included pouring over the cases of individually wrapped Victoria Creams, deciding what I was craving at the moment and what I would take home to family (who had likely already given me an order to fulfill). If I close my eyes I can picture the mahogany shop, dimly lit and expelling a rich chocolatey aroma from the moment you open the front door. The chocolates are wrapped in pink checkered paper, closed with a matching sticker and come in 21 flavors to choose from. A pound (or 10 creams) sells for about $20.00 Canadian. They're so rich and filling it's easy to cut one in half for a little treat now and another later. Of course enjoying the entire thing is also an option (and one I wholeheartedly recommend). Rodgers' also carries a variety of fruits and nuts, candy bars, wedding favours, mints and baking confections. There's even a Chocolate of the Month Club for diehard chocoholics. But how to survive between those spaced trips to our neighbor to the north has required some planning... Thankfully there are 2 options: buying in bulk for freezer storage and 24/7 online ordering. They ship globally, so those tasty treats are at worst only a click away.... But I'd much rather press my nose to the display case.

Yelp
I am a chocolate lover for sure! I do not care for bars of chocolate, I'd rather have something decadent in a small package. Roger's surely delivered. Simply the BEST chocolate truffle with raspberry creme that I have ever had. Rogers has the usual suspects (hazelnut, vanilla, raspberry) truffles, but they also have some inventive ones as well. The shop is absolutely adorable, I felt like I was in a chocolatier shop from the 1880's. (Actually that is an ironic statement, I just checked the website, and Charles Rogers, aka Mr. Rogers, opened the shop in 1891.) If I have an occasion to give party favors, I would certainly use Roger's chocolates, as compared to Seattle's Fran's Chocolates.

Yelp
Whenever I visit Victoria, I always bring home two local delicacies: Empress Blend Tea & ROGERS VICTORIA CREAMS! They are insanely rich - - ultra dark chocolate blended with buttery sweet vanilla fondant. They are world-famous, and a visit to Rogers' jewel-box store on Government is an experience in itself--stepping back in time. Forget about counting those calories---you'll just burn them off hiking through the quaint streets of downtown!
