Roku Roku

This was truly one of the best hostels I've come across in 15 years. The staff and owner were super welcoming and attentive. The dorm room had its own bathroom, plus a small fridge and hot water dispenser. Bicycles were available for free, though they were quite small by European standards. The bus stop next door is served by plenty of bus lines, making it easy to get everywhere without hassle. Even the washing machines were available for free. My personal highlight, though, was the owner's traditional home just a 5-minute walk away, which you can access as a guest for most of the time in the day. I loved staying there in the evening, using the kitchen, and just enjoying the great atmosphere. I loved how much thought went into the details that make life easier (especially in a dorm room): doors that close quietly, a small locker box at each bed, and additional storage for small items. As a frequent hostel traveler, this one was among the best thought-through I've experienced. Cons: There is no "real" common room—only the entrance area, which, in my opinion, could use an upgrade to feel more inviting (e.g., a sofa instead of just the TV). There should also be more bicycles, including some larger ones.

We stayed in Kyoto for a week and I’m so glad we chose Roku Roku as our base. Every single day it felt like coming back home, the room was quite big and really comfortable! The owner it’s a lovely man, who greeted us kindly and gave great recommendations where to eat! It’s located in such a quiet and beautiful neighbourhood, just a few steps away from the Philosopher’s path, we loved coming back here after visiting busy temples and more crowded central areas.

I had a wonderful stay at RokuRoku. The guesthouse is clean, comfortable, and very well maintained. The hospitality was warm and welcoming, making the experience truly special. The location is convenient for exploring Kyoto, and the atmosphere feels both cozy and authentic. I highly recommend RokuRoku to anyone looking for a good, clean, and pleasant place to stay in this area of Kyoto.

Great stay in Roku Roku. Spotless room, quiet and comfortable, and easy to reach many of Kyoto’s top spots for sighseeing. Extremely attentive host running this place. A true gem! Will stay again next time I’m in Kyoto.

Great price for quality. The guesthouse is incredibly clean and so it the service. You can use the laundry machine for free as well as their bikes (around 5 available). By far my favorite part was the small garden/ traditional living room area. That part is actually on a separate area (7min walk from the guesthouse) but can still be used.

I will strongly recommend this quaint and charming hotel when you visit Kyoto. It went much beyond my expectations. The room was very clean, peaceful and comfortable. The host was like a relative helping me discover the gems of his city. He was so helpful in every way. The hotel is within walking distance to the temples and some really nice cheap restaurants and cafés.

Very accessible to the bus stop, use always bus #7 he said because its route is faster. Place is secured by its own guests through card locks. Free to use his traditional Japanese house 400 meters away with nice Japanese Garden. I love the landlord, Jun Goto for his tenacity in serving his guests. Watch out for the google map location as it will point you to the road behind his building.

Rooms are very large and nice . Clean and has good prices. Not in a very fancy zone of kyoto so it's betternyou dine out before going back . No elevator.
