The 7 Best Hostels in Rome (Updated 2025)

"Focused on sustainability, this eco-friendly hostel feels clean and well maintained, with a restaurant and bar on-site (breakfast included) and easy access to the metro. Dorms are basic but include lockers and some cozy pod beds, staff are knowledgeable and helpful for planning visits, and overall it’s one of the quietest options if you don’t want to be overly social." - Matthew Kepnes

I was only there in an emergency due to having my passport stolen in sicily and having to collect emergency documents from British embassy. I had spent the night in the airport and was exhausted, wasn't allowed in the room until 1pm but that was two hours earlier than normal so was grateful regardless. Good - Plug by bed , duvet , curtain across bed . Clean , small balcony outside. Location fairly quiet and if are visiting central apparently not far . Lidls and other supermarket nearby. Free luggage storage all day . Access to electricity WiFi in common areas. Free drink . Bad Fridge broken wasted my milk . Very small non existent kitchen with only microwave. Lots of young people milling around and nowhere soft to sit , not hugely relaxing. Breakfast offered for 5 euros Adequate and cheap for rome.

The beds were clunky and noisy, and the doors made loud sounds—especially disruptive in the middle of the night. I had to constantly mop the bathroom floor myself due to a poorly designed shower and sink. I also had a bizarre experience at that hostel. In the middle of the night, the management decided to change the bedsheets on the bunk bed above mine—for a guest who arrived well after the check-in hour limit. The staff member started pulling the mattress and dropping it loudly, as if I wasn’t even there. I stayed for five nights, and on four of them, guests were checking in between 3 and 4 a.m., slamming doors and having loud conversations, despite the hostel’s stated check-in hours ending at 11 p.m. I didn’t get a full night’s sleep during my entire stay. The place is located in a nice neighborhood, but be aware that you'll have to take the metro or bus to get to the main sites in Rome. I wouldn’t recommend this place if you’re looking for a quiet place to sleep.

NO HOT/WARM WATER, NO SELF SERVE KITCHEN, fridge out of service and only microwave available. Under bed lockers do not fit a standard lock, it has to be the tiny locks that can be used for your handbags etc. No lockers in room except under bed. Toilets & showers down the hall. No place to put personal belongings when showering. One mini shelf for 4 people taking shower at one time. Showerr cover us like hard saloon heavy doors and have to be careful to not hurt yourself. No free maps as it costs 4 euros. No tours from hostel available. Not a warm environment with comfortable couch, just a wooden chair and plain table. Not an environment to mingle and hang out. Overpriced for accommodation. Give a jjuice or pop as a welcome drink. Although one Italian native lady said it may be a bit better than some places in Rome. It needs much improvement! Could use more hanging accessories in bathroom and dorm rooms. The Hispanic lady said they are going to fix the hot water issue within 24 hours and still not fixed. Rome is seemingly not an efficient timely service city!!!

Great staff. Clean and tidy with just some tiny repairs needed. Good breakfast for just 5 euro. Spotless bedding. Nice touch of free drink. Luggage and bike and car storage. Lots of shops and restaurants and excellent Speed Queen laundrette near by.

Good breakfast for the price. Clean room. First time I stayed in a place without a functional fridge. The receptionist said it's broken but reading old comments this has happened a while ago. And she didn't give any solutions to keep my food cool.

The kitchen was terrible, dirty, and there was no fridge. The women’s bathroom was quite clean and nice, and the hostel’s common areas were also good. The room was clean and spacious, but I couldn’t sleep at all during the night. There was a fan in the room, but it didn’t cool it down at all — I was lying in bed all sweaty and only slept for 3 hours!!

It was a really pleasant experience staying at this hostel. First of all, the staff was very kind! The big advantage of this establishment is that it's very very clean, which is so important. Besides kitchen which is not. Also, it is so close, less than 10' on foot, to Tiburtina station. In my opinion, the neighborhood is amazing. It’s peaceful and relaxing, with small parks nearby, and within 4 minutes on foot you can find cozy wine bars and restaurants. If you’re in the mood for nightlife, there are also lively cocktail bars just 10 minutes away. The only thing that I would change, as a Mediterranean girl that loves to spend time outside, is the tenda, the terrace. It has so much potential to be a beautiful and inviting outdoor space!! Finally a fridge is necessary at the kitchen. All in all, I’d definitely stay here again — especially on my 4th trip to Rome!
