"Wrapped in acres of labyrinthine citrus groves beneath looming Mount Etna, Zash Boutique Hotel & Spa was once the summer retreat for Catania’s nobility and now thrusts guests back to a time where nature called the shots, through a contemporary prism, as one of the best hotels in Sicily. Honoring its past life as a Palmento, the cool innards of the main house (a peachy, peeling vestige of grand Sicily) now pose as a smart, destination restaurant, below it, a dimly lit spa gurgles and steams, echoing the volcanic surroundings. Rhythms are docile, set by shifting fruit trees and occasionally interrupted by the rumble of the train (worth booking a room that doesn’t back onto the track). Lava stone slabs line the walls in Iraci Architetti’s photogenic Iconic Rooms and Poolside Villas, whose cubic, glass structures and sharp furniture greatly contrast the main house’s soft antiquity, and cleverly pull the clementine trees indoors. This is one of Sicily’s lesser-known hotels, a favorite with Italians wrapped in fluffy towels, oscillating between spa and pool (sliced into volcanic rock with contemporary finesse), before tucking into Guiseppe Raciti’s signature uovo poche croccante and soul-stirring pasta plates. I stayed here in Feb 2025. When I was scanning Catania for a 5 star hotel this one came up. But believe me it is 2-3 starts maximum. I have no idea how they are allowed to advertise themselves as 5 stars as this is obviously a scam. ||It’s very outdated and worn out. The rooms’ furnishings and the lobby belong probably to 1992. Air conditioner in my room has a time limit of 4:32 minutes (yes I ran a stopwatch to measure it), after which it automatically switches off. So if you are trying to adjust the temperature of your room, you have to physically get out of bed and switch it on again every 4 minutes. ||Rooms were freezing, I had to sleep with my jacket on. We were a group and I asked my friends they were freezing in their rooms too. ||Food is mediocre. Definitely not 5 stars. The shower has no shelf to put your shampoo bottle so I had it on the ground the whole time. The room didn’t contain and tissues I had to wipe my nose with toilet paper.||Stay out of this hotel. Read the other bad reviews as I found them to be precisely correct.

All in all a very great stay, a few minor changes would make it a 5 Star imo.|If you are looking for a base to explore Catania or just to hang out for a few days at the pool I suggest Romano Hotel for both stays. |Conviently located at the beach and with orchards around we experienced no noise and comfortable surroundings. |Food and drinks are affordable but if you are willing to walk 20 minutes to nearest Lidl you will drink for 1/8th of the cost here, just saying. |Staff are very friendly and helpful in general although not all of the younger ones have embraced the service mentallity fully or maybe it was just the heat, if you know what I mean ;)|We loved our balcony with a view of Etna and right next to the pool. Room 221. |We had an Alexa on the room which is very nice for playing music in the evening, the volume is fixed so you dont disturb other guests. |Cleaning was 10/10.|I needed very few things to make it a top review. 1) When they serve breakfast they stop putting out several dishes more than half hour before breakfast ends, this was simple stuff like raw tomatoes, meat cuts and such. I do expect a 5 Star to supply full breakfast options, even for late comers. 2) They are a bit inflexible when it comes to serving of drinks and food at the pool, again its small stuff. However to their credit we experienced highly motivated and helpful staff at reception, bar and restaurant. 10/10.

I was here to for the new years celebration. This was the worst possible celebration. The food was allfull. They tried to make 5 cource dinner for 110 people - the food was tastless without sslt. It was a disgrase for the sicillian cuisine. The service was lacking. It was not possible to order any drinks till midnight.

This is a 2 star hotel trying to pose as a 5 star hotel, and besides the prices, is definitely not a luxury hotel. We stayed in 3 and 4 star hotels all over the island that were better, in terms of the service, the quality of the room, price of a night's stay, as well as the food and drinks they had to offer. Don't even get me started on the TERRIBLE coffee they have in the room. The service from the hotel staff was completely lack luster. We had to bring in our bags completely on our own, and they were not helpful at all. When we got into our room, it was 28C (82F), and we had to have them turn on the air conditioning, to even try cooling the room, but even then it is the worst air conditioning we experienced on the island, and couldn't cool the quite small room we were in, so we left the doors open for a few hours, just to relieve the heat in the room as best we could. Nor could we even control the temperature on the thermostat in the room. Even the minibar fridge in the room was as hot as the room. The food we ordered for dinner was such a disappointment, after the absolutely wonderful food we had everywhere else. For example, the common street food in Palermo was better, both in terms of quality and price. The only thing this hotel has going for it, is the fact that from here to the airport is 12 minutes, so if we manage to get any sleep, it won't take long to actually get some decent food and drinks before our long trip home.

Romano Palace Luxury Hotel is a great choice for a stay in Catania, especially if you’re looking to relax by the beach. Located just 100 meters from Catania Beach and about a 10-minute drive to the Old Town Center, it offers a nice balance between beachside tranquility and easy access to the city. The rooms are spacious, modern, and well-maintained, providing a comfortable space to unwind. The outdoor pool is a lovely feature, perfect for enjoying the Mediterranean sun. One highlight is the buffet breakfast, which provides a good selection to start your day. Check-in and check-out were quick and seamless, which made the whole process hassle-free. Being close to Catania Airport is an added convenience, especially for travelers with early or late flights. A small downside is the limited restaurant options within walking distance, so be prepared to drive into Catania for a variety of dining and cafe choices. Overall, I would recommend Romano Palace Luxury Hotel if you don’t mind a short drive to experience the charm of Catania’s Old Town.

We had a fantastic experience at this hotel. The food was delicious, and the breakfast was exceptionally plentiful with a great variety of options. There were alternative food and drink choices available, like almond milk, which was a nice touch. The staff was friendly, helpful, and attentive, making our stay even more enjoyable. We appreciated being able to check in earlier than the usual 2 PM. The pool was clean, and the cocktail bar was excellent. We will definitely return if we visit Catania again. We highly recommend this hotel to everyone. These were the best days!

The hotel should have 3 stars. The rooms are dirty. The service is scare and bad, people is not nice at all. They give me a wrong room with the bathroom out of service, and they did not change it until next day, and no apologies at all for the inconviniences. The breakfast included is a scam, they have a menu that you have to pay on the top of the included breakfast. The breakfast opens at 7am and at 7.30am is already empty, they take 45’ every day to replenish the basic thinks like eggs. All the pastries are industrial and there is no even fresh fruit. It is far from the city centre. The beach near it is dirty as well. Very bad option , I would not come back again at all.

We recently stayed at the Romano Palace in Catania, and I have to say, I was thoroughly disappointed. Despite being promoted as a 5-star luxury hotel, the experience was far from luxurious. The service was extremely subpar, with staff being unresponsive and at times even unprofessional. Basic amenities were missing or poorly maintained, and the facilities were outdated and in need of serious refurbishment. The worst part of our stay was at the hotel restaurant. We ordered two bottles of wine from the menu, but they didn’t have what we asked for. Instead of informing us, they brought out a more expensive wine without saying anything, and of course, charged us for it at the end. When we refused to pay for their mistake, they insisted we cover the higher cost. This kind of behavior is absolutely crazy and unacceptable, especially from a so-called "luxury" hotel. The room was nowhere near the standard you’d expect for the price—old furniture, lack of cleanliness, made the stay unpleasant. For what you pay, it's a complete rip-off. There are far better options in Catania for much less. I would not recommend Romano Palace to anyone looking for a true luxury experience. STAY AWAY.
