Romantica

I loved, loved, loved this little hotel! The decor is so cute and their location is perfect. Michelle and Thor responded to emails fast and their service is top notch. Told us about good trails, saved us money by sending us up a less expensive funnicular than the one we had been planning. We ended up hiking the 5 lakes trail, which is gorgeous. Beds are comfy, and they had all the little things we wanted, like slippers, a teapot and a lovely tub. Balcony with a view of the mountains and city. I would definitely stay here again.

This is such a charming, warm and welcoming hotel! Michele truly enjoys providing a Swiss home atmosphere for all her guests. We were kindly picked up from the train station, and taken to the hotel. Thor helped us to plan our day, and made sure we saw the Matterhorn, enjoyed our hikes and recommended dinner restaurants. Our corner room had wonderful views over the village of Zermatt. The walkway and garden that greets you is perfection! The hotel and room were very clean, great towels, and a delicious breakfast! We didn't have another croissant that tasted as good as theirs the remainder of our trip. They truly spoiled us. The location was perfect too.

As with many other buildings in Zermatt the Hotel Romantica is an alpine style building, this alone gives it a certain level of charm. The hotel is situated on the crest of a Hill, up a narrow street. In front of the hotel is a garden with a winding pathway, this all adds to the charm and makes the hotel quite cute, and well, Romantic. ||The hotel is located near the center of Zermatt, it is within an easy walk of the Train Station and Gornergrat railway. Most of the town's restaurants and shops are nearby as well. The hotel is ideal for any area excursions you may go on. ||The staff at Romantica were very nice and helpful, offering great advice on where to go and what to see. Our room was on the top (fourth) floor, while there is a small elevator that will take you to the third floor, we had to walk the final flight of stairs to the fourth floor, which was not an issue but should be kept in mind for those that have mobility issues. The room itself was decent sized, decorated with an alpine motif. The bed, pillows and linens where all comfortable. The room was cleaned each night during out stay. ||The included breakfast was self-serve continental style (with the exception of made-to-order coffee). The quality of the breakfast was fair, better than most continental style breakfast I have found, but not extraordinary. The offering included some eggs, bread, bacon, sausage and fruits.||Overall, the Romantica is a very cute and charming hotel. It is a great choice for visiting Zermatt and experiencing the majestic beauty of the area. A stay here is highly recommended.

The most charming hotel in Zermatt. Thor and Michele go out of their way to make you comfortable and are a font of information. The breakfast was lovely, the shower hot and bed comfortable. Would absolutely stay here again.

This is the second time we stayed in this hotel and both times were absolutely fantastic. This time around for a change, we stayed in a little cottage, I.e., the mayen, which is really kind of magic. The gardens are extraordinary.. The hosts are welcoming and helpful. We appreciated the ride to the train station because we had a lot of luggage. We can’t wait to go back.

This was an absolutely wonderful place to stay. The proprietors, Michele and Thor, really made us feel welcome. They provided advice on sightseeing and hiking, made dinner reservations, lent us walking sticks, and overall made our stay even better than it would have been. Breakfast was wonderful. There is even a beautiful flower garden out front. The rooms are comfortable, and the hotel is set back from the main street, so it is nice and quiet at night. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. I can’t wait to visit again someday.

Our week-long stay here was nothing short of wonderful. “Lovely” doesn’t even begin to describe our experience. Thor and Michelle were exceptional hosts. Each morning, Michelle greeted us with our coffee order at the included breakfast, while Thor took the time to help us plan our ski routes for the day. He checked conditions and tailored recommendations to our experience level. Their local dining suggestions were spot on, and we enjoyed some great conversations with them. We stayed in the cabin built by Michelle’s great-great-grandfather, a charming and cozy retreat. The bed was comfortable, and the water was hot with good pressure. A little tip—don’t forget anything upstairs; it’s tricky to retrieve in ski boots! The bedding was soft and inviting, making for restful nights. The property also offers a convenient pickup and drop-off option, making transportation a breeze. Plus, there’s a secure area to store your skis, which is a great touch after a long day on the slopes. We’d absolutely return for another stay!

Thor and Michelle make this place much more than a hotel. The care they show for their guests is the same as the care they show for their garden( which is a local attraction in its own right). This homely, warm and intimate hospitality experience will remain a memory for us as much as the spectacular scenery of Zermatt.
