Romantik Alpenhotel Waxenstein

5* for location ( stunning mountain viewes!) for this beautiful place Also very good service. Our suite was very nice but the room had an atmosphere of some years ago. But, everything was there. Mini-bar well stocked against reasonable prices. I can recommend a massage or beauty treatment by Magdalena. A very skillful and spiritual person. Hikes run directly from the hotel, leave your car. Restaurant is good but expensive but with excellent wines! Several good restaurants around in Grainau. We had a lovely time. I miss the mountains already.

Very good hotel in a good location about 250-300 m from various restaurants. Excellent views from either side and also from the little pool/whirlpool area. Free parking was available on site, there was a good breakfast spread and the reception team was friendly and communicating in both English and German. Only the bed in the room was a bit hard for our taste and one of our rooms had a bit of a smell at the start. Also, some still water can be offered on the rooms not just sparkling especially for younger kids. However, it was overall a very good experience. Would rate it 4.5+ and call it a superior 4 star hotel.

Fantastic panoramas and scenery. Hotel rated 5 stars but it is not, you can get cleaner and bigger rooms for similar or less money. Unfortunately this can not make up for our overall experience which is one star (because zero star not available). We stayed one night and had to cancel the rest of our stay for a family emergency.|We understand the cancellation policies and the profit oriented stance of the owners, however not caring for your clients satisfaction and well being is disappointing and not acceptable. The front desk clerk appeared overwhelmed. I will never return there and strongly advise the same.

This hotel was awesome. The rooms were nice, the view was breathtaking and The service was excellent. They were very accommodating especially since I spoke minimal german. Victor our server and bartender was extremely helpful and friendly. He went out of his way to make us feel at home and feel welcome. We had a great experience and were very happy with everything Romantik Hotel Waxenstein had to offer. I highly recommend them.

The 5 rating is just for the hotel and the accessibility. Everything was top noch except 2 things. 1) The front desk guy, some South American looking one. Was unfriendly with no smile and no explanations to the things. Just gave the keys as if it’s a backpacking service. It’s bad for the hotel’s reputation. 2) The 3 course dinner : the food appeared to be of good quality but a bit too much salty. As if the chef was in love. Apart from these two things everything was like perfect. All other front desk people and staffs very super friendly and nice. The sauna, the view, the room, breakfast etc. we’re all great.

Nov 2024 UPDATE: Hotel is flagging low ratings for defamation! Original Review: Stayed and posted in Nov 2022. This is a cute little hotel. Walking through the hotel I loved the charm and decor. Our room was cozy and had a balcony overlooking the parking lot. We immediately went out to relax after our day of travel and soon realized we were right above the smoking area outside the lobby. From then on we didn't enjoy the balcony as there was smokers occasionally below us. The beds were hard, but I got used to it and didn't bother us too much. They have two pillow options, even though advertising they have multiple options. They could be refreshed as well as some of their furniture. We were on the top floor directly across from the maid's closet. Every day at 7am they would roll their carts out, clanging glass bottles, talking loudly and parked them right outside our room. This definitely  put a damper on stay in the mornings. The breakfast buffet was nice every morning. We did not upgrade to the tea/cake hour or dinner, but ate at the restaurant a couple times. It is a set menu every night and the food was good. Attempted to have drinks in the bar, but they did not staff it with a bartender. They provide a train/bus pass at check in which is a nice perk. Unfortunately  the train was closed for maintenance 4 out of the 5 days we were there. I get they don't want to advertise we were booking during off season on their site, but it would have been nice to know when checking in and talking to multiple staff about activities and how best to get there. We would have planned our activities differently.

My husband and I stayed four nights in this hotel and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. After a long day of hiking and exploring the beautiful area, we came back and relaxed in the sauna, pool, and jacuzzi. We enjoyed delicious gourmet dinners at the hotel restaurant. The breakfast buffet was well stocked, and the servers are friendly and efficient. The rooms are quaint, a bit crowded with furniture, but the view from our balcony was superb.

Awesome! This is for sure one of the best hotels you can stay in Germany. Although the price seems high, there is no hidden costs. Wonderful breakfast. Capacious rooms. Friendly staff. Clean and tidy. Perfect!
