I have stayed at Rheinfels several times and have really liked it, and still do, but. They are obviously very short staffed, which I sympathise with, however to have the bar closed Saturday and Sunday evening in June is really not acceptable for a hotel of this standing and price. |My room, while large and well equipped would have been great ten years ago but really needs a revamp. The shower didn’t work properly, there was nowhere in the shower room to put a wash bag and the carpets in the hallway were worn through.|The food in the restaurant was superb as always , and the staff were working hard, but again, they were so stretched it really spoilt the experience. It is hard I know to keep smiling when you are so pushed, but we pay for better service with a smile.|Breakfast was excellent however the whole experience was definitely tainted.|It seems the prices have increased and the offering has decreased.|Such a shame.

A breath-taking view and a perfect get-away along the Rhine River. The hotel majestically sits on the hill in St. Goar. I love the history tied to the entire premises - a once disputed castle now transformed into a beautiful hotel and museum. Every area is well maintained and cleverly upgraded to ensure comfort. There is a museum right next door that's accessible all week(with the fees paid in cash). My husband and I were well received by the staff. My appreciation to Lan (from the restaurant team) who had some lovely stories and special kudos to Jessica who gave excellent advise on which cruise we could take along the Rhine. You can start the day early and choose a full day cruise or simply take the 1 hour final option to Boppard. St Goar as a town is quaint with several shops, ice cream parlours and historical sites such as the world's biggest hanging cockoo-clock. You can easily navigate the town by foot or choose to connect to the hotel/museum via Bus 671 or 672. Area of improvement: Your cleaning team could make extra rounds to ensure rooms are cleaned in time or not skipped.

Beautiful location, excellent facilities and friendly staff. I travelled by bike with my family and they offered us a locked place to store the bikes overnight which is a big plus. The view from the restaurant and the terrace is stunning. Highly recommended!

I’ll start with the positives: the views from both the terrace and the main restaurant are absolutely breathtaking. The wellness area is well-equipped, and the garden space to cool down after a sauna session is truly a highlight — peaceful and beautifully maintained.||The rooms are clean, but it’s clear they are in need of renovation. For a hotel that markets itself as four-star, the absence of some basic amenities like tea/coffee-making facilities and sufficient toiletries is disappointing.||Unfortunately, the service did not meet expectations. Staff generally lacked a welcoming, service-oriented attitude. At the restaurant, my concern about finding a wooden skewer under my food was dismissed by the waitress, who barely acknowledged me while apologizing. The quality of our second dinner was also noticeably below standard.||At checkout, I encountered another frustrating moment. I had forgotten to present a massage discount at the time of booking, and the receptionist showed zero flexibility in applying it retroactively. Her response was curt and came across as unnecessarily rude: "It’s the rule."||All in all, I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone expecting service and quality that align with the price point. The setting is stunning, but unfortunately, the hospitality does not live up to it.

Amazing place! Nothing could have been better- the staff was friendly and helpful, the room was comfy, quiet, and clean, and as for the location - it's a CASTLE, it's in the best spot for the best views (they wanted to make sure no one was sneaking up on them, we just want to see the beauty of the area).

Our hotel room was top class. The furniture was German Classic and everything worked perfectly. The bathroom was very modern and super clean and functional.

Yelp
We made a stop at this castle in St. Goar while we were doing a cruise on the Rhine River. It was spectacular and well kept up. Beautiful photo spot and a lot of history. They have an adorable little gift shop on site too. I was happy to find it, since I collect magnets everywhere I go.

Yelp
This is the best 11th C castle that I have been to in Germany. There is no awfully narrated audio tour and no bored guides leading you through the passages. Its self guided so you go at your own pace. It is large and has a lot of areas including secret or dark passages that you can explore on your own. Bring a flashlight. Seriously. Though my iphone with flashlight app worked just fine. It has some new areas such as the museum but mostly this is a very well preserved ruin. Expect to spent 2-3 hours here. There is a tram from town that will take you up but its no more than a 15 min walk. We did it pulling our luggage and leaving it at the ticket booth while we explored. The kids will love this place. Oh and there is a restaurant there too in case anyone in your group would rather drink. Have fun.

Yelp
This place is so awesome. I didn't actually stay in the hotel part though because I didn't know about it; I wish I would have. The castle ruins are great though! It's huge and you can spend hours here just walking around the grounds. A couple of the hallways were very dark, if not pitch black, which didn't stop me from going through them. Until I discovered huge spiders chilling on the very low ceilings in the pitch black rooms! I ran outta there like a bat outta hell! But most of the castle is light enough to see where you are going. This was my favorite castle to explore out here, despite that it is in ruins! I think that is what adds the charm. There is also a gift shop, very tiny "museum" room, hotel and restaurant in here. A must see.

Yelp
We dined here our last night in St. Goar. We had already had so many amazing meals but we felt the need to splurge and dine up at Burg Rheinfels. We were pleased to have walked in without a reservation and still be seated by a window with a beautiful view. I imagine that is uncommon during high season, but we were very pleased. We dined at Auf Scharffeneck. The food was good, but it was not where I thought it should be at that price point. The carpaccio was magnificent, definite high point. I had a fascinating tomato soup with cream cheese balls, I'm still not sure what to think of it. My fiancée had the parsley root soup which was delicious. We thought things were going to continue to go well, but we were only mildly pleased with our entrées. I wanted the venison, but they were out, I went with the lamb with ratatouille and potato gratin. My fiancée went with the veal steak, which I enjoyed more than he did and I enjoyed it more than my own dish... We knew very little about the dining experience here prior to our dinner. Like I said, it wasn't bad, it just didn't wow us like we really hope to have been. Service was wonderful and friendly and the restaurant is lovely and it goes without saying, but the grounds and views are stunning.

Yelp
We had a lovely time walking the Rhine recently, the Germans we met were all very friendly and helpful, and we ate in lots of wondeful local pubs and inns - but this grandiose place was NOT one to recommend. The staff were arrogant and rude, the atmosphere unwelcoming, and it was very over-priced. Avoid!

Yelp
It was bit odd for sure staying as a single person in hotel with the name "romantik" in it. I stayed here in the summer of 2014. The hotel itself is a new building on the site of the ruins of castle and connected to it and the view of the Rhine is amazing. My room had a balcony and the most wonderful view of the Rhine. I could have spent hours sitting there watching the ships go around the bend in the river and I did pull out my laptop and do just that. But I also roamed around the castle ruins with my friends I was travelling with and had a great time exploring the area around here. I did get any romance but it was lovely staying here.

Yelp
We were exploring the castle and decided to stop in for lunch. Food and service were great. Desserts were excellent.

Yelp
This is a truly awesome hotel overlooking the Rhine. I recommend the half pension that includes a delicious gourmet dinner in a beautiful dining room. Be sure to make reservations and request a table next to the window. The view of the vineyards, the town of St. Goar and the boat traffic on the Rhine below is a memory you will cherish. There is also an outdoor patio entered through the gift shop that is a perfect spot for an afternoon snack and/or beer while enjoying the fantastic view. The buffet breakfast is as good as you will find anywhere. Our room was in the annex and was spacious and comfortable. There is a small buffet available in the annex with drinks and pastries. Parking and WiFi are free. Careful exiting the parking lot; it is in the middle of two blind corners.
