Seehotel Sonne (Kusnacht, Canton of Zurich) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Dating back to 1641, this traditional hotel offers a lovely location close to the lake and tasteful, comfortable rooms including some junior suites in the old tower, where you’ll also find whisky and port. In summer there’s a skating rink, in summer a wonderful beer garden in addition to the good year-round culinary offerings." - Tablet Hotels

High end hotel on lake Zurich. Right beside boat dock that takes you to downtown Zurich. Nice restaurant and beer garden on the lake. Rooms are smaller than American rooms but very clean and updated. Rooms facing the street are noisy. Try to get a lakeside view room.

We absolutely loved the Sonne hotel for the first leg of our honeymoon. We stayed 3 nights in the 2nd floor suite and never wanted to leave. Amazing location, amazing views. Ease of transport via boat or train into Zurich. Private swimming / patio was welcomed, would highly recommend.

Beautiful unique and charming hotel. Very romantic (hence the name). We stayed with our family, and unfortunately we couldn't get the Wifi going, the restaurant (after 8pm as we arrived late) didn't have very many child friendly options. However, the service was amazing, from the parking attendant making extra effort to fitting us in, to the front desk being extra friendly, and the Easter Bunny who dropped off some chocolate treats for our kids the next morning! Breakfast was top class as well. Room was also very comfortable.

We came to Zurich for our March holiday and once again chose to stay at Romantik Seehotel Sonne. We visit Zurich quite often, and this hotel has become our favorite place to stay. It has a unique charm that keeps drawing us back. The moment you step inside, it feels like stepping back in time—in the best way possible. Wooden beams, antique furniture, and paintings on the walls give the hotel so much character. It’s nothing like modern, sterile hotels; instead, it has warmth, history, and a soul. It’s the kind of place where you want to slow down, sip coffee by the window, and just take it all in. The location is a dream. The hotel sits right on Lake Zurich, and the views are absolutely stunning. In the morning, there’s a soft mist over the water, during the day, the sun makes the waves sparkle, and at night, the city lights reflect beautifully on the lake. We walked along the lakeside every day—it’s incredibly peaceful and even more magical in the spring when the trees start blooming. Our room was spacious and cozy, with huge windows and, of course, a breathtaking lake view. The bed was super comfortable, the linens were soft, and everything was perfectly quiet—ideal for a truly relaxing stay. Breakfasts here are just amazing—fresh croissants, great coffee, a wide selection of Swiss cheeses, and fresh fruit. And dinner at the restaurant? Absolutely fantastic. The food was delicious, especially the traditional Swiss dishes, and the wine list was impressive. And the staff—so welcoming and attentive. From check-in to check-out, they made sure we were comfortable, gave great recommendations, and handled everything with a smile. This hotel is exactly the kind of place you want to come back to—cozy, full of history, perfectly located, and with exceptional service. Already looking forward to our next stay! ..

Very good view, friendly and professional service, and decent room. Avoid their breakfast - extremely overpriced (35chf per person) for the quality and scope you get.

We stayed at Romantik Seehotel Sonne while visiting friends in the area. This peaceful hotel had a great location and views (waterfront), wonderful helpful staff, and easy connection to S-Bahn and the airport.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel in a great location. The room was ok. When I booked a room with a water view and paid for a view, I just expected more than a room in the attic with a peek-a-boo view. There was no AC. We went to the beer garden for dinner since there were no reservations/tables available at the restaurant. Overall, the staff was rude and just not nice to foreigners. This is a locals hotel and the beer garden was a locals hangout. I would not recommend this hotel to someone who cannot speak the language based on how I was treated.

Yelp
Returning to the town we used to live in in the past, the Romantik Seehotel Sonne was a supreme hotel choice in the Zurich metropolitan area (15min from downtown, Kuesnacht is the Bel Air of Zurich), right at the beautiful and clean lake (in fact with a private lawn with direct lake access as well as a garden restaurant next to the water), very quiet. Downtown Zurich easily reachable either by care, S-Bahn, or romantically by boat (recommended). The building has a historic foundation but - after the most recent renovation - has nicely incorporated a few very modern style elements. The rooms are Swiss-clean, very nice and comfortable; the best view onto the lake is from room 310. A large ballroom and several beautiful old-fashioned meeting rooms available for social events. The haute-cuisine dinner restaurant in the morning offers a beautiful breakfast buffet (included). A small fitness room and a super-relaxing spa with sauna, steam room, bath and a discrete and very pleasant scent in the air are a wonderful place for relaxation and rejuvenation.

Yelp
Absolutely the best breakfast I have ever had in my life. The rooms were on smaller size even for Swiss standards and pricy , but the breakfast buffet made up for it. Go early so you get to seat next to the lake and enjoy the views. Nice and friendly staff.

Yelp
Lovely place for Sunday brunch by the lake. Within walking distance of Bahnhof Küsnacht, or you could even take the boat here in the summer. There is an informal outdoor grill section, but we ate at the terrace of the restaurant. Fabulous food and friendly service. I started with the light summer cocktail with avocado cream, carrot mousse, marinated tuna tartar in crispy sesame basket with spicy mango infusion. It was beautifully presented and fun to eat. You squeeze the mango infusion out of a little tube onto the dish. Then I had the seasonal mixed salad plate with sautéed, warm giant prawns. Really yummy and juicy. They offered a Swiss specialty for dessert called Griessköpfli (semolina pudding). Since I'm always up for trying new things, I ordered it. It was kind of like a heavy pudding, and I was stuffed, so I wasn't overly excited by it. But I wanted to try something traditional, so I'm glad I got to try it out.

Yelp
Quite possibly my favorite hotel. Ever. We spent several days at the Sonne Seehotel in Küsnacht in April and left feeling unexpectedly cheered. The hotel is located on the right bank of Lake Zurich and our third floor rooms overlooked the quiet marina. The view was nothing short of therapeutic. Though the standard lake rooms are a little on the small side ("cozy"), they are very clean and comfortable. But even better, the food is delicious. In the mornings, the hotel offers a bountiful breakfast in the Sonnengallerie (complimentary when you book online), and in the afternoons and evenings, Schweiz dining options are available in any of the hotel's three restaurants. Our favorite was the lakeside Sonnengarten, a seasonal, open-air biergarten nestled under the shade of chestnut trees. At night it is filled with twinkling lights and glowing torches and patrons lingering over flammenkuchen and tall glasses of weissbier. The hotel also provides a small lakeside patio with lounge chairs for guests to enjoy during the day (there were even a few swimmers!). But just a few steps further along the Zurichsee is a larger and even prettier park with willow trees and benches and tidy playgrounds. Though the Sonne hotel is located within easy proximity to public transportation - the train station is just a few blocks away (it is around 10 minutes to downtown Zurich) and the lake ferry makes a stop directly at the hotel - it was tempting to spend the majority of our time in the serenity of Küsnacht itself. Throughout our stay, the hotel staff was exceptionally professional and accommodating and, as we checked out at the front desk, we were presented with a small jar of homemade strawberry jam to remember our visit. I was/am completely smitten.

Yelp
The vieuw is fantastic if you can sit outside. It's a romantic restaurant/ hotel. I've dined in the Gaststube. It's a small restaurant. The atmosphere was good and warm. The staff were friendly. The food was good, but not special. The next time i will try the other restaurant outside or inside.
