19 Best Tours in Rome

"Imagine if you could physically see the sites, monuments, and reference points that tour guides bring up when ushering you around a city as ancient as Rome. This virtual reality tour lets you, by creating enhanced versions of the way the Eternal City appeared during the days of the empire, all visible through the glasses you'll wear as you make your way through the Roman Forum and Colosseum." - Erica Firpo, Maresa Manara

I bought tickets through GetYourGuide for 11 a.m., and the place I was supposed to pick up my ticket was the intermediary. As it turned out, the tickets were for 12:45 p.m., as the lady verifying the Colosseum tickets told us. Of course, this really disrupted our day. The office staff gave us some ridiculous explanations, but they were nice and did what they could. Overall, I don't recommend it.

We booked the Rome Colosseum Tour ahead, and it was worth every minute. The skip-the-line access saved us so much time, especially with the long queues and heat in the summer. Our guide was truly knowledgeable. We even got access to restricted areas we wouldn't have seen on a regular ticket. The best way to experience this iconic site. Highly recommend this guided tour for anyone visiting Rome!

Excellent experience, we went in December, not many people around ,perfect. Remember to book before you go as the ticket office is closed, and it's quite hard to get onto the internet to book once you are there.

Francisco was a wonderful guide, his passion and knowledge of the Rome's history made me feel immersed in the culture, I very much enjoyed the Colosseum, Forum and Palatine Hill tour and HIGHLY recommend! Request Francisco if you can!!!

Started bad, but ended up being fantastic. Long story, but bare with me. We booked this tour well in advance for my sons first trip to Rome. We arrived in plenty of time, handed in all the documents you need (remember to take ID with you) and waited for our group and names to be called. Which they were. We headed down to the Colosseum with the group and when we arrived there this is when it went bad. They tour guide had lost our names/tickets from the group. Myself and family, along with an American couple and an English women waited away from the group for the lost tickets to be found and brought to us from the office. The others had their tickets found but ours was not. As anyone can imagine this caused a great deal of stress, my son was upset, and we were asked to go back to the office. When we got back to the office, we were asked if we wanted to go on a later tour that day, which we couldn't do as I had already made arrangements for other tours that day. We were getting very worried and upset, but they pulled it out of the bag and made the day very memorable. They called a tour guide Maria to come and take us round and do a private tour. She was amazing and so knowledgeable, she looked after my son and showed him everything. He was so happy with the day and we were able to see everything (except go on the arena floor - but was given a partial refund for that). We finished the tour with time to get to our other pre-booked trips. They were great for sorting everything out, and thank you Maria for saving the day. Shame that the day started badly, but finished great. Would recommend, but please make sure that you are on the list and the tour guide has the tickets before heading down.
