10 Best Things to Do in Rome with Kids

"Rome4Kids’ Vatican Tour is a fun way to show little ones around The Vatican. Groups meet outside the Vatican Museum, where kids are given a purple-colored backpack containing goodies needed for their scavenger hunt, including an illustrated map, a 40-page activity booklet, and a little souvenir prize for participating (ours was a Colosseum snow globe). The grown-ups are cared for too, via a series of pre-downloadable apps that are referred to throughout the tour." - Maresa Manara

We are so fortunate to have found Rome4Kids for our 1-day visit to Rome with our 4 year old and our 16 year old. Yes, HUGE age gap! Booking a private tour of the Vatican was the best decision we made, from initial planning to the day of our tour. Our private guide Alessandra was wonderful! We were originally assigned Ariana, but due to an emergency on our end, we arrived to Rome a bit past the original scheduled time, and Rome4Kids accommodated us quickly with Alessandra. She ensured we had an engaging, well paced and educational (but fun!) experience. My 4 year old is not easily won over, but she enjoyed Alessandra's pictures and descriptions. My teen was in awe of the wealth of history and information Alessandra shared with him. All around, just a wonderful wonderful experience. I only wish we had more time!

We did a tour of the Vatican with Cecilia. She was very knowledgeable, extremely helpful and really provided us great history on our tour. We thoroughly enjoyed it, despite the Vatican being extremely busy and crowded. She made it much more manageable.

We had a pizza making class in piazza di pasquino during February with Rome4Kids tours The class was centrally located so it’s easy to find just a couple of minutes walk from piazza navona. The guy who led the class friendly and the couple who also did the class with me and my child were also lovely and friendly. My son enjoyed eating a pizza he had made himself The experience was ‘ok’ I accept we’ve come on a class out of season so there might not be that many guests but when you book with an operator called ‘Rome 4 Kids’ you expect whatever you’ve booked to be kid centric and this just wasn’t. We had booked to come on the course for 11am a couple of weeks before and then 18:30 the night before we had an urgent message if we could change to 3pm or 5pm. This wasn’t convenient as we had to rearrange our plans for the day, however not wanting to disappoint my son we agreed to the change. I’m guessing that this last minute change may have been to fit us in with other guests into one session that day. We were just told the request to change was due to an operations error There were no other children on the class so it was my nine year old, myself and another couple (who were lovely). The guy leading the class was friendly however none of the chat felt relevant or engaging for a nine year old child, generic adult chatting really which is not engaging for children. This was interspersed with points about the pizza we were making at certain intervals. I think we started making the pizza at 17:15ish and then by 17:45 I felt we were being rushed to get out of the kitchen and sit at our tables outside to wait for our pizzas to cook. I wasn’t sure what we were supposed to do so I asked the guy to repeat to me what we were doing and it felt like he was quickly repeating what he said because he was eager for us to get outside. During our visit to Rome we went on two other tours/experiences and they were of excellent quality (one cost 15 euros less and the other 5 euros less) and I cannot say that about the Rome 4 Kids experience unfortunately- it was just ‘ok’. On another food experience we went on a pasta and tiramisu making class in the home of an Italian lady and the experience was focused on it being fun for children, and that came through in how they interacted with my son. We were there for two hours on that course and had lots of fun, and felt like we came away having learnt a lot - this was a more memorable experience in comparison to what we had with Rome 4 Kids. I don’t like to leave reviews which aren’t glowing but when you spend a lot of money going on holiday to somewhere like Rome, I felt that I should be honest about the experience. The plus point of the session was that it is centrally located so it is easy to get to and my son enjoyed eating a pizza he had made himself hence 3 stars.

We did the Vatican for Teens tour with Teresa and had a fantastic time. There were 8 of us including 4 adults, 2 teens (13yo and 14yo) and 2 children (9yo and 10yo). Teresa’s commentary and guidance through the museums, Sistine Chapel and St Peter’s basilica was really informative, entertaining and kept all age groups engaged throughout the 4 hour tour. I would not hesitate to recommend it!

My family and I had a wonderful experience on the Percy Jackson tour in Rome. My daughter is a huge Percy fan and our tour guide Silvano really brought the book to life at the Capitoline Museum. He was amazing and it is evident that he loves teaching and is so incredibly knowledgeable. We learned so much from him and by far this was the best tour we’ve taken! Thank you for such a special memory for our family.

My husband and I were really looking forward to seeing the Vatican and learning about all the history there. I am so thankful we booked a tour with Rome 4 Kids. Antonella was wonderful and kept our kids engaged so that we could enjoy the sights. She answered all of our questions and really tailored the experience for us. One of the best decisions we made in Rome was booking this tour!

We booked a private tour of the Vatican and had Tom/Tommy as our tour guide. He was amazing! So patient with our talkative three year old, so kind, and knowledgeable. He made our visit so much better! Booking a private tour with a young child was so worth it!

We just finished our golf cart tour in Rome which also included a colosseum tour with our 3 children 12/8/7 years old. Marco was awesome, friendly, informative & went out of his way to make sure we were all having a great time. Definitely recommend the golf cart tour. Everything about the whole process with Rome 4 Kids was so easy!
