8 quirky things to do in Rome - SilverKris

"A cat café that pairs resident, friendly felines with an entirely vegan menu; even non-cat-lovers tend to find the animals welcoming, while the kitchen focuses on vegan and raw reinterpretations of classic Italian dishes." - SilverKris

Google
This was a really special and fun restaurant to visit. The cats are adorable. The environment is perfectly cultivated. The ladies restroom is stocked with products beyond the norm. It shows such care! They also use an anteroom to keep the cats safe. The food was okay. I found there to be too much liquid smoke or something in the food. So, even though the food wasn't amazing, the experience and environment was. Definitely worth the trip.

Nicely decorated, authentic vegan dishes, cats got freedom to do what they wanted :) The main dish was a bit too burned on the bread for me but my husband loved it. The fries were spiced well but a bit underbaked. I really liked the first dish the fried filled antichoke. The presentation was very fancy and thoughtful. The seating upstairs was not comfortable for us as partly there was no backrest but also the tables were lower than the knees so it was hard to eat without fearing to spill or sit comfortably. It might be worth changing.

I came here with my friend for triple C's (Cats, Coffee, Cake) :) I had the ciambellone cioccolato e nocciole, which was really nice, and a cappuccino with oat milk. I enjoyed the atmosphere and saw a few cats around (they have 6). I've been to many cat cafés before and what I've missed here were photos with their names and history, where they're from and when they were rescued for example. I was very happy to see so many provided period products in the ladies bathroom, I'd hope it's the same in the men's ones since transmen are still menstruating people as well. Staff was friendly and spoke a bit English.

My wife and I are not vegans but we went with friends who are. Pleasantly surprising we enjoyed the food. The cats do not bother you they pretty much keep to themselves.

Google
I did not expect to find this type of restaurant during my stay. But it was really perfect. Honestly, when I was walking to this location, I wasn't sure if I was on the right path. But gems can be found everywhere. This place is one. I am not a vegan at all, I am still trying to figure out what I like, what I don't like. And being able to taste high class vegan food AND, this is actually the best part, have a kind-of-date with cats. OMG! Sadly my taste wasn't that good, so one of 2 meals weren't to my liking. But thats on me. And the cats were awesome. One took its rightfull place, me, as its throne after getting lots of pets. So...a success! All of that aside, the restaurant itself has a really inviting flair and the staff was super. They spoke awesome english, gave me a little welcoming present in the shape of food to try. So, perfect.

Google
I mainly write this review to warn others (especially tourists) that if you arrive at lunch and dinner time it is MANDATORY for every person at your table to order a MAIN COURSE/starter and you CAN'T just have a drink and/or dessert. I find this important to point out after our time tonight at this otherwise lovely place. They don't really inform you about this other then much later on in the online reservation process (cause you do have to reserve a table for lunch/dinner as clearly stated). Even then it's almost hidden in a long text of Reservation Policy (I had to search it up afterwards). Opening hours are clearly stated on Google and their website but the info about the mandatory main course isn't - even though I think it's an important detail to note. With this review I'm not asking you to change your policy, just to state it a bit clearer for tourists like us, who may not have the time/energy to pay attention to every little detail while navigating through a (to us) unfamiliar country with unfamiliar customs. To state the positives, the food otherwise was pretty unique and delicious, it was my first time trying vegan food. The place has a really great atmosphere and the cats were adorable. Sure they were mostly sleeping the whole time and wouldn't approach us but you can't expect anything else after them having to be around people all day - although one of them DID get friendly with us and jumped on the table and came to greet us while there were still few of us in the restaurant. Staff was very kind at the beginning and later remained calm and professional and I had some pleasant conversation with them. Still, while I really don't like conflicts and I try to avoid them whenever I can, that doesn't mean I liked seeing my family being forced to pay that much money for food they didn't want just cause I made that reservation and we were already sitting at the table with drinks. (I was also afraid that us refusing to eat anything would equal to "not showing up" and would result in us having to pay the online no-show fee of 30€/person.) It was a big mistake from my part for not reading everything properly but I still think the whole situation could have been avoided. So again, this review is more so a suggestion that you make sure potential customers know all the rules beforehand (maybe stating all of them along the opening hours on the main website), a sorry cause the whole conversation still wasn't very civilized from our parts at times and a warning to others cause even if 1 person reads my first paragraph a whole lot more of unnecessary conflict can be prevented.

Google
Don't let "vegan" or "cat Bistro" fool you. This place serves top quality, high class food with all of the Italian flavours you're looking for - with a backdrop of cats and fun art. They also have a stunning bakery next door. Highly recommend.

Google
The staff was welcoming and very efficient. Location is good but I found the restaurant somewhat cold and bare and too much feline presenfe The menu wasn't that inviting for me as per variety but pleasant to eat and very well prresented. €€

Yelp
If you like cats and vegan food, Romeow is the place to go! They have a number of cats freely wandering in their bistrot and they all are super cute! This is unlike any of the cat cafe's I've ever been because they serve a full menu here along with a wine menu! For lunch, we ordered a caraciofo to share, 2 of the tteokbokki and a tiramisu. The caraciofo was an artichoke, lightly breaded and fried. The tteokbokki was a Korean rice dumplings with mushrooms. Those two dishes were really tasty. Our favorite for sure was the tteokbokki! The tiramisu, we shared because we were so full from the artichoke and the tteokbokki! The service at Romeow is quick, efficient and friendly. I would certainly come back again!

Yelp
Randomly found this place looking for a restaurant to grab a bite and it was literally up the street from my Airbnb. It's an amazing cozy spot with cats roaming and lounging around. I sat upstairs which feels like a hangout space. I ordered the taco which was an assortment of flavors, excellent and well crafted. I also got the ravioli which was very tasty. If you enjoy furry friends this is an absolute recommend.

Yelp
Dined in today for their Easter special menu and it was such an unbelievable experience. Their food is the best vegan food I had in my life. 10 out of 10. Their menu included 2 appetizers, a pasta dish, a main course and a dessert. Water and coffee included in the price. For those who are missing Kombucha while in Italy, don't worry they have you covered! Service was impeccable even if they were very busy. All the courses were served at a perfect pace. The food experience was not rushed at all. Loved that. This restaurant has a beautiful decor and their seating arrangement is spread out on two levels. You can really tell they put a lot of effort in this place and they love what they do...and what can I say about their furry guests?! They will make your experience even better and I loved how unbothered they actually were by us humans. I can't wait to go back both for the food (I want to try all their menu options) and the experience!

Yelp
Had an amazing dinner here!!! What an amazing concept...wonderful vegan food and cats there were 4 cats when we visited-don't expect them to be super social with diners, but they are friendly. Decor is trendy and chic. The food is incredible!! Highly recommend the ravioli and the appetizer taco & pain Perdu. Tiramisu is to die for!!! There is an English & Italian menu.

Yelp
Eat food while cats lounge around... sounds great! Sadly there was only 3 cats seen in the entire establishment and in true cat trait they were aloof. Can't blame them. Love all the beds, scratch posts, and places to hide for the cats. They look well taken care of and loved However the staff could work on having less catlike personality traits and get an attitude adjustment. Probably the main reason I'd really think hard before returning. Also the reason my friend suggested elsewhere when deciding where to lunch but I was insistent we go here. While not vegan, I used to be vegetarian and love eating veg once in a while. What I really wanted was one of the delicious raw cakes (vegan deserts are my favorite). Went with a friend for lunch, place was nearly empty of patrons. I had not had coffee yet that day and ordered an espresso (cannot get a cafe latte apparently). I inquired about the day's selection of raw cake and was rudely told "it's lunch, you cannot have cake and coffee". Oh ok, sorry mom didn't realize I can't eat whatever I want. Ordered my backup of the jackfruit tartare. Food arrived, pad thai for my friend and my jackfruit tartare. The tartare was good but TOO much what I can only guess is vegan mayo, overpowered the dish and I love jackfruit so that was disappointing. It did fill me up so the attitude from the server that I did not want a raw cake now was unnecessary. Cute ambiance. Cute concept. Love taking care of animals. However staff need to learn to be less arrogant and also maybe let people order what they want. It's not like I wasn't trying to eat anything nor was the place busy at all.

Yelp
Came here for some vegan breakfast and the cats of course. I ordered a cappuccino with hazelnut milk, pancakes, chocolate muffin, the unicorn drink with two sides of whipped cream topped with cocoa powder. Everything was vegan and sooo bombbb. Really delicious. Loved everything here. The cats were super cute, they had a box with mini stuffed animals that represented each one with their names. I would love to come back here again. Amazing.

Yelp
So glad to have found Romeow!! We have been in Rome for about 3 days now, first time in Italy. Frankly, we've been disappointed with the lack of hospitality and the general absence of customer service. However, the staff at Romeow, (the two-legged & the four-legged ones alike) have redeemed their city!!! The food is amazing, the staff is extremely accommodating and friendly, and the gatti all are friendly and soft! (We can recommend the beet root gnocchi or the cashew ricotta-filled ravioli. Save room for the chocolate mousse cake- it is out of this world!) Seriously, the smiles at the Cat Bistrot were the first ones we've seen all week. Then add in some beautiful feline dinner companions- what more can we say? I can't say enough great about this place! Thank you so much, Romeow! You just made our day!

Yelp
When I went there with my family of 5, at first it seemed like a cute little cafe, however, after further scanning, there were only 3 cats. Likewise, when we sat down, you needed to order at least 3 dishes per person (or over 60 euros), obviously this is way too much for a family of 5. The food options seemed mediocre at best, so we decided to leave. My little brother was so excited to see and pet the cats there, only to be rejected because you can't pet the cats while they are asleep (cats sleep all the time, when are you supposed to pet the cats?). He shed a tear for the hour long walk we took just to come to this so called 'amazing fantasy land'. We ended up going to a sushi restaurant not far away, and it was much better and welcoming and inclusive. Cats were cute though, I would rescue them from this place if I could.

Yelp
Cat cafe with vegan food. I'm not a vegan, but I'd prefer even vegan food if it comes with cats. The cats here were very calm and happy, with plenty of space to hide, perch, or relax. They were sufficiently comfortable to walk up to tables, sit on chairs, and interact with guests. I've been to about 50 cat cafes globally. This is definitely one of the nicer ones (more a "nice cafe with lots of cats", not a "dedicated cat play space with incidental drinks"). I had only drinks (which were good: great hot chocolate and sparkling water served in a reusable bottle). If I were a local, I'd definitely be a repeat customer as my neighborhood cafe, and be a vegan while there. Staff were also really friendly, spoke English well, and were nice to accommodate my luggage (I checked out of my hotel, ubered to the cafe, then ubered on to the airport before a flight). Will come back next time I'm in Rome.

Yelp
This was the most amazing restaurant I have every been to in my entire life. The food is unreal, as is the hospitality and the cats were sooo sweet. Amazing, amazing place.

Yelp
We are currently eating dinner here so I don't think the hours are accurate. We did have a reservation. The food is exceptional. If we had fine vegan dining like this in Houston, I might still be dairy free. The wine selection is great and the prosecco we had was delicious. Of course the cats are the main attraction and if you come here when there aren't a ton of other customers you will likely see more of them out and about and climbing the trees (literally). The staff is super nice and the decorations are adorable, this was a nice first night out in Rome! We will be back

Yelp
Wonderful concept! Having lunch with cats Very cute bistro, however their menu only had one sandwich available. The menu on the website had many more dishes. We had a healthy tomato, olive & avocado sandwich & the chocolate mousse cake. I really enjoyed the cake! They had 6 cats & they were all friendly but most of them were napping I also had a banana & berry smoothie

Yelp
We had a fantastic time at the Romeow Cat Bistrot in Rome. We had never been to a cat cafe before but while we were on vacation, we decided to look online if there were any nearby, and there was! The atmosphere was adorable and cozy, and the overall design of the cafe was super neat and interesting. There are plenty of spaces for the kitties to relax nearby the customers, so there were always cats close by. The cats were super friendly, especially the white one! If you don't want to just come for the cats, the food was also really great here! I only wished that the menu had a bit more options in it.

Yelp
Awesome place! The interior is very hip and stylish. The atmosphere as well as all the hosts are very warm and welcoming. The menu is pretty original and everything is prepared very well and delicious! There are not that many cats and they were mostly sleeping by themselves but they are all very chill and enjoy being pet and played with. When we left they even called a taxi for us. The hosts that is, not the cats.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, very relaxing. Came and had breakfast. Very nice waitstaff. Awesome to just chill and watch the cats.

Yelp
Loved this bistro! You should make reservation, it's very easy and comfortable via Facebook chat. The food was awesome, everything we ordered tasted great and the atmosphere was lovely. The cats minded their own business, but it was nice to have them around. Thumbs up!

Meredith L.

Yelp
We were so excited to enjoy vegan food while being surrounded by cute kitties and we were not disappointed! The food was delicious and had the presentation of a 5 star restaurant. We arrived after their kitchen closed but they were kind enough to open it back up for us and I couldn't have been happier since Romeow was top of my list of vegan restaurants to visit in Rome. With adorable cats and great vegan food what more could you want!

Nina R.

Yelp
From the hospitality to the cats to the food to the music- ALL INCREDIBLE! We have 20 cats so seeing the cats was a treat for us since we are currently missing our babies so much. The ambience is so cute and the music playing in the background was just perfect. We ordered so much food we were embarrassed to cancel the main course but the owner was so sweet and had no problem with us canceling it. We had the taco for an appetizer that was out of this world. Also, the raw caprese that was delicious. For our entree we had a rice in a tomato dish and pad Thai. So good! Nice portions and worth the price. We finished off with the tastiest tiramisu and cappuccino of our lives. Servers are great, the owner is amazing and the cats are awesome. Love this place and can't wait to go back. Dinner starts at 8pm.

Yelp
My first cat cafe experience was not a disappointment. This charming bistro was the perfect place to relax, get caffeinated, and escape from the hustle of Rome for an hour, all while 6 cute cats walk around your feet. A little pricey but the chill atmosphere and good food made up for that. Very clean and cute with relaxing music.

Yelp
Amazingly cute bistrot. Interieur is great. If you're a hipster, you'll feel right at home. Cats were adorable, of course. There were coloring books where people from all kinds of countries drew in the cat pictures. So did we! (Look for a Dutch cat, it's us ;)) Unfortunately I didn't enjoy the "cinnamon chocolate milk" they served me. It was more like slightly melted chocolate. Could not drink it, it was sticky and not liquidy at all. Taste wasn't so good either. Cookies were cute though! Still recommending this cafe, I'm sure their other drinks are great and I just picked the wrong drink.

Yelp
Absolutely lovely. Amazing atmosphere and service and great vegan food with attention to detail. Only critique would be that the smoothies were colder. They were so delicious...just a bit warmer than my liking. The Italian tacos were fantastic and the tiramisu was best of my life second to my European mother in law's (nothing can beat that so not fair)...vegan or not. See you again Romeow!

Kai W.

Yelp
Honestly, I felt unwelcome (not by the cats, by the staff!) I had read online that this was a good place to study/work, so I was expecting to sit down with my laptop and have a coffee. The staff seemed annoyed that I wasn't going to order lunch and they sent me upstairs, where there are no tables--just benches and coffee tables (which made my back hurt). By the way, there was almost no one in the café--it's not like I was taking up room. They wouldn't let me order a simple coffee because apparently you have to spend at least €5 to hang out there. I ordered the "golden milk" which was almost undrinkable because it was full of dried flower petals. The cats were adorable, but I won't be coming back!

Lirom B.

Yelp
Amazing little vegan café with great food, great atmosphere and above all - great cats :)
google avatar

Taylor R.

Yelp
ok. this is not the average cat cafe. also-do not come here if you want food before 1 pm. they don't start serving "real" food until 1 but their menu does have vegan/vegetarian options. they have so many nooks and crannies for the cats to go into. do not expect the cats to just milling about to come up to you. we came in the morning when cats are supposed to be most active and they were in their little hideaways. we could see them but they don't come up to play or love on you. but the service is very prompt and nice and the smoothies we had were delicious. just not the average cat cafe.

Yelp
My wife and I walked all the way from the Colosseum to find this place. It was a little further than we had thought but the walk wasn't too bad. We also love animals so it made it worth it when we went inside and there were cats sprawled out on chairs and napping in crates. Putting on my best grown man facade, I pretended to ignore the kitties and talk to the lady at the counter as this is what grown men are supposed to do. After asking a couple basic questions about what time food is served and what was in their desserts, I stealthily made my way to the closest cat-in-a-box and started to pet it. Another black and white cat passed by and I tried to pet that one too but it didn't really seem to like being pet as much. So I started to pet the box cat again because he wasn't being mean to me. My wife started to give me funny looks so I returned to my seat to drink my Pina Colada while we shared a Taramisu and Chocolate Mousse Cake. I tried to wiggle my fingers and make weird noises to lure some more cats over to me but it didn't really work. I don't particularly care for Taramisu, but she loved it. The Chocolate Cake was pretty fantastic (although it should be for 7 Euros). The Pina Colada was average at best but the real question is, why did we order a Pina Colada on a vacation in Italy in the first place? I quickly finished my food and drink and tracked down another unsuspecting sleeping crate cat. The desserts were great, slightly expensive, but worth the premium if you enjoy petting sleeping cats and being ignored by the others.
