3.5 stars. Visiting the Romsdal Museum was one of the activities we chose to do under our own steam while visiting Molde by cruise ship in August, 2025. (I would not recommend paying cruise ship excursion prices to see it!) We walked to the museum and purchased our ticket. (The museum is about a 20 min walk from the cruise terminal). We then wandered in and out of different buildings demonstrating living conditions, clothing and food from times gone by. There was a darling little chapel and a more modern museum section exhibiting beautiful traditional costumes amongst other things. While well done, I found the museum only about a 2/5 on my excitement scale, but it was historical, educational and something to do while in Molde. See my photos attached for more detail.

The Romsdal Museum in Molde, Norway, is an open-air folk museum containing over 40 heritage buildings from the 1600s to the 1900s. In 1952 a chapel was added to the museum. It exhibits two Norwegian building techniques of long standing: upright plants typical of medieval stave churches and characteristic log construction. The chapel has a pulpit from 1665 and an altar from 1670. In summer the chapel is often used for weddings and baptisms. A model ship dated 1804 hangs from the ceiling.

There are 2 parts to this museum. The outdoor collection of old buildings collected from around the area and the quite recent Krone exhibition. The latter has beautifully displayed local history. It might be too Norwegian for some, but the quality of photographs and displays are outstanding.

This was part of our excursion from a Carnival cruise we were on. We fully enjoyed our visit. The girls that demonstrated the Norwegian dances were fantastic. Great place to see .Totally worth your time. I would have loved more time there.

Delightful little museum. Inside the main building is presented history of Molde and local area. Mostly about fish industry. However, outside is the true gem- real historical buildings transported to this location. The houses were mostly donated with furniture inside and everyday items as they were. The guides were great, do talk with them. 4 stars ⭐️ because the museum is probably the only thing worth visiting around the area and it can’t be compared to the large museums in capital cities.
