I am a thick-and-soft crust person, so when I wandered into Ron's and got my first glimpse of their well-reviewed pizza my heart sank.
The place didn't look like much, despite the half dozen voraciously eating customers lounging around the front, and the overall feel didnt exactly scream high-class pizza joint. The inside is cramped and there is a giant, stuffed moose head hanging by the inside seating area (and being a voracious animal-lover and vegetarian, I found this a huge discomfort, lucky I was so focussed on the pizza when I arrived, or I might have left when I saw it).
The pizza itself looked interesting, albeit terribly flat, but the toppings caught my attention and the names were quirky and intriguing.
But overall I stayed non-plussed about it (and their prices) until my first slice was cut from the whole.
To my very-much-plussed surprise, the slice they cut was quite literally three times the size of your normal pizza-hut-whatever slice and twice as big as what I was expecting. I am 188cm tall and two slices are literally the perfect amount for me (and I've been known to eat whole large pizzas and still be wanting). They popped it in the oven and maybe two minutes later my pizza was ready and waiting.
First off, to my excessively-pleased surprise, boy was I wrong about the crust. It was perfectly soft, with just the right amount of chewy and crunch for me and second off, holy frick was the pizza good.
Actually not just good, EXCELLENT.
Every topping I've tried has had a well rounded taste and with a glorious and innovative mix of different ingredients. If you are vegan, by Jove do you need to try their vegan pizza. And if you are just vego like me, expect a heaven of variety (though I've noticed what pizza's are available has varied on the day/time of day).
From midday to 2pm they offer any drink in their fridge for 40cents or something ridiculously good like that, and I've taken advantage of this a couple of times.
And! This was told to me by a friend im staying with, if you go midday they have whole slices of day-old pizza (and I can't tell the difference) for only 1 euro! Or half slices for 50c!!
It's like a dream come true.
Finally, the staff are friendly enough, and once when I headed in around midday for an early lunch, there was a really friendly woman working who I chatted to for a bit (I'm not one for idle chats, but her lovely demeanour left me with a smile).
P.s. Rating only not five stars because of cramped insides (they aren't terrible, just not optimal) and the disturbing moose-head (which the nice lady told me was 80 years old or something, so maybe it means something to the owner, who knows?)
