Everest Base Camp Now Closed to Tourists

"Rongbuk Monastery offers colorful flags, golden stupas, and panoramic views of Everest. Although it is not the base camp, it remains a significant site close to the world's tallest mountain."

Highest monastery in the world and one of the few that allows monks and nuns to be inside together. Had the chance to witness them chanting in the main prayer hall and it was interesting. Do note it’s very near the base camp.

Beautiful monastery near the camp! Amazing view to the Everest Mt! Recommend to visit in late afternoon before the sunset for beautiful lighting! Not so crowded with tourists as everyone was chasing over the sunset and mountain view. We had a peaceful time just seating at the assemble hall and breathe in, breathe out. There’s a small kitchen in the monastery so you can have a cup of sweet tea. Unforgettable experiences!

One if the oldest monasteries founded as a cave by a Nepalese monk/professor in 6th century. It us the highest monastery in the world There are two sections. One section for the male monks used by locals which is prohibit to foreign visitors. The nun‘s section is where all foreigners are allowed to visit. One if the poorer monastery has to be rebuilt after the cultural revolution due to destruction

Visited a few years ago, by car from Kathmandu. Just wonderful scenery amongst the high mountains of the world. Great people and unusual food but just the most wonderful of places. Be prepared for the altitude, but also for the most memorable of experiences.

So you plan on making it to Tingri and not spending a night here? Well let me tell you that you’d be missing of an incredible experience. Whether you’re seeking inner peace or just want the adventure, this place will stay in your memory forever. Yes, it’s cold but you already know that, so come prepared. Yes, you’ll suffer from altitude sickness, also come prepared for that; trust me, it’ll be worth it. My advice in terms of accommodation is to lower your expectations to the limit, then be prepared to be pleasantly surprised. I recommend to stay at the monastery’s guest house rather than in a tent. You’ll get a room with two beds, a functional bathroom with a clean and functional toilet, a sink with hot running water. The best part, the floor is heated and at 8:00PM, they will turn the oxygen on, 20 minutes after you’ll feel comfortable and will have a good night sleep. Come prepared with your favorite fruit and snacks, there’s nothing, but that is the marvel of this location, you’ll enjoy the silence and if weather permits, you’ll have a spectacular look at the night sky that will stay in your memory forever. Work on your plan and choose the dates that will offer you the most chances of a clear sky then be prepared to be amazed. Don’t miss the opportunity of visiting the monastery early in the morning, you’ll feel humble and will appreciated all the things in your life that you take for granted, you’ll have a sample of such a simple, yet happy life style that will most definitely touch your heart.
